then the reporters say "why would you go back to zach after benching him the past 2 weeks" and he has to answer something. he said that and got the follow up question out of the way. no reporter is letting him go back to zach without asking why

    THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fans always say "we need continuity, we need stability" - but bad continuity is worse than no continuity. Other than Pete Carroll almost 20 years later, NOT A SINGLE JETS HEAD COACH has gone on to have all that success that we were afraid we'd lose out on.

    NOT ONE!!

Enough of this dumb fucking narrative already..

thats far from kissing ass. kissing ass would be saying he's a great QB and we have to do better around him. saying he's a better option then simian or rypien isn't kissing ass. He could say he sucks the least of the Qbs on the roster but that wouldn't go over well.

Even the "lean" times for teams like the Steelers are just resets - new QB, new players, reloading to move forward. There is a notable absence of the circus bullshit the Jets bring upon themselves with every regime. And their teams always play hard and smart. The Jets almost never do.

Bill Parcells completely flipped the culture and that was as Woody was buying the team and settling in. Belichick wanted nothing to do with him, Parcells eventually split, and the culture stayed fair decent for a little while. But a single guy flipping the culture can only last so long, and when it went, it went.

What lean times? Bill Cowher had three losing seasons in 15 years and Tomlin has never had a losing season in 17 years.

Talk about stability. Check out this stat regarding Steelers head coaches.

    Chuck Knoll 1969-1991
    Bill Cowher 1992-2006
    Mike Tomlin 2007 - present

Only three head coaches in the last 54 years. 8 Super Bowl appearances with 6 Lombardi trophies.

That’s the organizational difference. Not sure what the secret is, but I often wonder if we the fans are our own worst enemy, constantly calling for firings and not letting something play out.
I was thinking about it yesterday…. The saleh regime has gotten us a stellar defense. Maybe now we need a year more to build the offense. If firings happen soon, could be bailing on a 1/2 built team we have been waiting for?

It's impossible to compare that to the Jets. They very clearly know how to run an organization and select a qualified candidate. Had they not selected a qualified candidate, they wouldn't have stuck with the guy all this time. That seems like a "duh" moment, but apparently some people confuse this concept with stability for the sake of no change like suddenly the coach in question will turn it around if you just remain stable.

Sure, we can easily dial back the 80s with no free agency or salary caps and give them all the time they need.

Zach gives us the best chance to win so it's not too surprising.

But if he wins a couple of games, and Joe D's stubborn ass thinks that he can be that backup QB next year. That will be the issue that can come from this.

Hopefully, he plays well, and it increases his trade value. He should not be on this team next year

yup and it's been gone ever since. really is a cursed franchise that as soon as we started to turn things around the owner dies and doesn't even get to see it, then we were in limbo and bellichick didn't like either possible owner and bounced and parcells stayed on in a reduced role for a couple of years and we actually maintained a competent team for a decade but since then it's been really bad

Do you think that is all just the coach?

Cowher could not win the big one was a real narrative and a lot of Steeler fans were calling for Tomlins's head. We do not have a coaching problem we have an organization problem.

"All"? That's a pretty broad question. Of course it's not "all" the coach, but as the one who's interacting with the players, hiring and managing coordinators to teach and prepare the players, and acting as the face of the franchise - I'd say the coach is a pretty damn big part of it, yes.

That's more a testatment to the cluelessness of the fans than it is any indictment of the coach or organization. We see the same shit here. When you involve millions of people, they are going to see a million different angles.

That’s pretty crazy that you consider that lean times regardless of fan sentiment.

He's a plant. No way he's a Jets fan with that type of sentiment. How's the Pittsburgh area treating you @cval?
