I was the one who didn't want Flacco, and you argued with me!. Now you got him and still complain. Who exactly did you want to come here that's better than Flacco? Mahomes? Rogers?
The one good thing about trading for Flacco is that hopefully, Mims will start seeing more playing time.
Why would that be? Yeah I know he threw to Mims last season but it was more about not having anyone to throw to besides Crowder and Berrios. Even experienced QBs don't really like throwing to covered receivers.
You're the first person I've seen bring up that specific sentiment, so no, I don't think you're reading moods correctly. I had concerns about his injury history but this doesn't indicate to me that he's injury prone, just that he has a shitty Oline.
Is this the 6 million dollar man or the NFL? I don't see the point in lobbying to slice open your 2nd overall pick unless you are pretty familiar with the guy's medical history, like more familiar than a couple of lines of text in news blurbs. I don't see the point in drafting a guy and then immediately slicing him open to "fix" him. They're humans, not cars.
Zach Wilson himself has said the torn labrum in his left shoulder will eventually need to be repaired. If he is shut down for the season at any point due to another injury that becomes an excellent time to do that. Of course we could just ignore the injury because that would never come back to bite us hard in the ass at some point in the future, would it? https://universe.byu.edu/2019/06/18/zach-wilson-explains-shoulder-injuries-on-media-day/
Because Mims isn't always covered like you and some other claim, and because the kid can play and Flacco knows that.
True, but they have been getting better lately. Flacco may also get the ball out pretty quickly, so that may help.
The NFL network said this morning that its a minor strain and Zach is only going to be out 2 weeks. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
One thing that excites me about Zach is every game beginning with the Broncos game we have seen him audibling out of a bad play into a good play based off his pre snap read. We saw this again against the Pats on the screen to Moore where he saw the uncovered blitzer and switched out to the screen to Moore. The execution on the play by both Zach and Moore was really good. Zach knowing he was going to get hit and Moore remaining calm enough to catch the ball then juke the defender to the ground. Watching Moore and Zach grow together will be exciting.Gang GreenNation does a nice recap of the play. https://www.ganggreennation.com/2021/10/26/22746832/moore-space
X Factor breaks down all 12 Wilson pass plays in a video breakdown. Like usual the weekly Wilson video is the best Wilson breakdown out there. Mostly good stuff from Wilson in this breakdown but it also highlights some of issues. One thing that was brought up was that he looks a lot more decisive and calm throwing outside the numbers than over the middle. This is pretty normal for a rookie but I recall there was some criticism of him predraft over his desire to avoid a lot of middle throws to throw outside the numbers which allowed him to use his arm strength more. https://jetsxfactor.com/2021/10/26/zach-wilson-patriots-week-7-film/
Wow - if you look at this - this was really a great game from Wilson, given what he had to work with. Passing Dropback # 1. Ty Johnson does not pick up a block, no one is open in a short time Wilson has - no where to go, Zach has to take sack 2. Bad play design by LaFleur, Griffin gets beat trying to block Judon, no one is open, Zach correctly throws it away. 3. McGovern blows protection, Zach on the run, has to throw the ball too quickly as he is tackled to the direction of the open receiver, had no time before he got hit. Incomplete. They say Zach could have looked left, but he had a guy on the right too, and just had no time. 100% McGovern. 4. Bad play design by LaFleur, no one open, McGovern doesn't pick up Judon, Wilson escapes into the pocket, and out of nothing flips the ball to Ty Johnson for first down. Zach made first down out of nothing. 5. Quick screen pass to Moore on RPO over defender running at him, Moore gets 1st down after the catch. Good play by WIlson. 6. Good play design by LaFleur, good protection, good pass by Wilson across to the left for about 10 yards, 1st down. 7. Throws the screen on RPO, complete to Crowder for no gain, Moore does not block on the screen, tackled right away. Factor suggests the run is a better play, but Zach throws a perfect completion, there are two receivers against one, and Moore blows the block. That was a good play by Zach, and Moore fucks up the first down. 8. Moore is one on one, good protection, Wilson throws a prefect pass to Moore on the right, Moore slips on the route. Incomplete. 9. Good protection, Cole 1 on 1, outside the numbers, perfect pass, 8 yard gain. 10. O-Line does the job, Griffin is back for extra protection, no one is open. Griffin gets beat, Zach extends play, still no one is open, throws it away, gets hit to the knee late, no call. 11. Decent protection, Zach looks, no one is open. Zach rolls left, squares, throws perfect pass to Griffin who didn't have much separation for 1st down. Zach made something out of nothing. 12. Deep route, OLine does the job, Griffin gets beat trying to block Judon, Zach has Davis for first down, and a check-down for 5-6 yards open, but throws deep for 47 yard gain on PI. Throw was not perfect, a bit away from Cole, gets bailed out a bit by the PI. Net result - 47 yard gain to 1 yard line and Judoh injures him. Overall, given what he had, this is pretty much as good as anyone could do. Yes, a few minor things here and there, but honestly, I doubt many QBs would do better here.
