Best current option is Halaby with Flores as HC. They’d need to really hit on the OC to deal the deal. Flores made chicken salad out of chicken shit in Miami. He’s a really good coach - just worry about the O. Would prefer an offensive HC since that person can’t be poached - but the coaches on the O side that I like don’t have the experience we need given the current situation with the Jets.

Hire a proven coach who has won a superbowl and has a lifetime .608 winning percentage, knows how to run a offense and develop a qb, or keep rolling the dice with defensive coordinators who have set us back for last 24 years, tough decision. You know what you are getting with Mccarthy, you are subjecting yourself to 5 more years of misery to figure out that Aaron glenn or Flores, can't coach a damn.

Mike might just be what the doctor ordered. Experienced HC. successful HC, offensive background, led successful top 5 offenses in last 3 of 5 years, two division titles with Dallas. Won a SB before. What's not to like? The only knock on him is underachieving in play-offs, but he did win a play-off game in Dallas too with Dak, who I think is solid, but not an elite QB at all, more like Derek Carr level. He is not that old, and only a year removed from 12-5 season and two years from another 12-5 and winning in play-offs with Dallas.

If he is willing to come here, if we get Mike and Alec Halaby as a GM, we might have something cooking.

I think half the Jets fans would give their left nut at this point just to experience the playoffs next year or have a winning season or have a somewhat functional offense, thanks to Woody our standards and bar has been set very low, the next coach that leads us to the playoffs will be hailed as our Vince Lombardi. The fans of other teams have been spoiled so bad with constant success that they want to fire Tomlin and Mccarthy after constant playoff runs, we Jet fans would kill just to sniff the playoffs.

Successful HC who's had a string of bad luck in playoff games and got fired by a meddlesome owner after missing the playoffs once? That's exactly the sort of retread HC you should hire.

On the topic of selecting a coach with an offensive background, who have we interviewed or scheduled to be interviewed with the best chance to become a successful HC and a leader for us? There is a lot beyond X and O to consider. Seems to me the ones we like, ie Kingsbury, or Monken are not even in our radar or not interested. I’ll be damned if we should over reach just because he has an offense background. I’m tired of experiments.

It's interesting you should say this. I saw a clip of none other than Bill Belichek on becoming a head coach. In it he referred to the tremendous amount of non football/administrative duties that one needs to address. If one is not manager/administrator there is a huge learning curve to that aspect alone; It's not just about X's & O's for the head coach...

This franchise CANNOT take anymore risks. This franchise needs to have a winning season again. We need the least riskiest option to ensure that which now is Mike Mccarthy. Other canidates might win but they also might just be losers like Saleh or Gase. Its to risky, we need to turn this around.

I'd argue Mike is a much better choice than even Tomlin for us, who is not available anyway. Unfortunately we do not have a HOF QB on the roster, like Big Ben was. And Ben was awesome until his last year. Without Ben or with declined Ben, Tomlin can still get 8-10 wins and then even make play-offs occasionally with 1st round exit. McCarthy proved he can do better than that with inferior QB Dak. He was able to do 12 wins multiple times and even a play-off victory. Wouldn't that be nice?

Honestly, the only offensive guy we interviewed who is qualified is Joe Brady. We need to add Kingsbury, Monken, and yes McCarthy to that list.

Yeah its time to stop experimenting with 1st time coaches or coaches with very limited experiences hoping to hit lighting in a bottle, problem is it takes 5 years just to figure out they suck and we don't have 5 years, shit has failed time and time ago so why keep repeating the same shit over and over again? Give Mccarthy what he wants as he is the only proven coach on the market and if he doesn't work out than can his ass, better than canning Aaron Glenn in 5 years after you figured out he sucks ass and he has regressed all our players. If shit doesn't work time and time again why not try something different? Hiring no body defensive minded hasn't work in a quarter century, so why not pivot, do a 360 and hire a proven offensive minded coach who has won a superbowl? He may not be Andy Reid but you put a roster around him he will take us far.

I don't see a downside to McCarthy. However, there should be a real discussion on the forum concerning the pro's con's of hiring a coach before a GM. Who reports to who? They certainly should see eye to eye, how to make sure this happens?

You hire Mccarthy first and let him bring in his own Gm and coaching staff, thats the only way he agrees to come to this shit show anyhow, along with a blank check.

Everyone on this board knows Jets missed out a few years ago when they inexplicably hired Adam Gase instead of Mike McCarthy. I really hope they don't fuck up again by missing out on another opportunity to hire him. They need a veteran, experienced HC.

Completely agreed. They should have hired McCarthy back when they hired Gase and that turned out to be a massive mistake that has helped to set this franchise back considerably. They have a chance to get him again, and now he comes with the added bonus of having successfully dealt with an owner who loves to meddle in the football operations of the team. Woody needs to get McCarthy in for an interview now and get this done.

Well three of the 4 have previous HC experience, which is vastly important IMO. However, my concern remains, why are we not being more selective and focused with our HC interviews, with more specific objectives in mind. If we are looking hard at Offensive talent with serious previous experience, we have done a poor job. I'm not at all convinced the names above have even been recommended to Woody, and if they have apparently no interest has been shown to interview. Hope I'm wrong.

At some point, the interviews need to end and the evaluations need to start. It's one thing to cast a wide net for applicants, but quite another to have too many applicants as it dilutes the talent pool.

If Team 33 has a set idea of what they're looking for, you don't need to interview everyone that's ever worked in the Front Office or on an CS.

If Team 33 hasn't got a clue as to exactly what they're (Woody) is looking for, then we as an organization are doomed to more misery even with the new regime.

Take your time and get it right for once. By now, we should be on second interviews instead of beating the bushes looking for more people to interview.

I don't understand how people think Flores wouldn't go insane again. If he couldn't handle Miami there's no way he's gonna keep it together in NY.

I'd honestly take McCarthy over anyone else we've interviewed. Glenn feels like Saleh part II and McCown has like three years of coaching experience.

At least with McCarthy we get an experienced coach who has shown he can run an offense.

This is what happened in Denver with Fox before Kubiak.
