Thank god, Smoltz is gone. In his postgame interview last night he looked and sounded like he was ready to hang it up, hopefully he was sensible enough to do so.
Well that's a strange way of informing the media that he's being cut loose. Watching him in the dugout last night was sort of sad, and it sounds like he's at the end of the road. Good career.
Smoltz has been DFA'd. http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/this-just-in/213144/smoltz-designated-assignment
yeah, and the broadcasters last night were saying that guys usually get rewarded for being left out there like that.
Yankees will probably pick Smoltz up..Cashman is making a habit since the deadline of picking up ever worthless bum out there.
Today is the best chance at the Sox winning, beckett has been a big thorn on the Yankees' side! And so has been Lester, but if Pettitte can out-duel Halladay 3 days ago, then he can out duel Lester as well.
Honestly, I'd have no problem with taking a flier on Smoltz, assuming he's willing. He might be more effective out of the pen.
Beckett's career vs. Yankees: 9-4 W/L 5.42 ERA 1.51 WHIP The problem has not been that the Yanks don't hit him.
