Damn Girardi..first you give a third of the team off on the same day in Posada, Matsui and Damon...then you leave Pettitte in with a right hander ready and three righties coming up...your typical brain fart. You have to laugh at what Toronto wants from NY. Of course this is Heyman and he is never right about anything. "The Yankees were given the impression it would take both of their top young pitchers, Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes, plus two top prospects. While Toronto didn't name the prospects, the Yankees' best minor-league prospects are outfielder Austin Jackson and catchers Austin Romine and Jesus Montero." http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/mlb_trade_talk/posts/71522?eref=sihpT1 Of course just the fact that they called (if they did) says how much they are looking for another bonafied starter.
I didn't say anything the first time, but since it happened again: It's bona fide. Latin. Bona = good Fide = faith Sorry for getting all Spelling Police-y... seeing Latin mangled is a weird pet peeve of mine.
Couple things: 1) Even if the Yankees did initiate the Halladay call, as ace said, you always call about a guy like Halladay. He won't be a Yankee. He's too expensive. 2) I don't fault Girardi for yesterday. Yes, that's right, Alio isn't giving Girardi shit for any of his decisions yesterday. Resting a lot of the lineup after an 8 game win streak? What's the problem? Sticking with Andy a little too long when he was otherwise brilliant all day? No problem. Going with Aceves who has been great out of the pen? I don't blink an eye at it. The only decision I would have changed was letting Posada swing with the tying run on first. You've been doing great manufacturing runs. Bunt the runners into scoring position, and out of a DP. Even that isn't going to flip me out. I may freak out, but it takes a lot more than a snapped 8 game winning streak to do it.
I'm sure they may have initiated a call. I'm also not positive he won't be a Yankee but I am positive that he won't be if the package includes both Chamberlain and Hughes. Too bad Kennedy is gone, he would have been perfect in that kind of deal. Oh, and I would have rested half the lineup today, not yesterday. I'm sure Girardi thought they would kill that guy yesterday and that is where he always makes his mistakes. Keeping Pettitte in was also a huge mistake in that spot.
And reports as of last night/this morning are that the Phillies have no interest what-so-ever in giving up Happ, Drabek and Brown/Carrasco. The Phillies would send Happ and Carrasco+others, but really want to keep Drabeck. However..."Source: 'I'd be shocked' if Phillies reverse course and include Happ [and] Drabek for Halladay. But [second] source [says] Blue Jays 'got to' have both." So unless either team changes course, I don't think he's going anywhere. And Ricciardi has stood his ground on wanting a fair trade. None of these guys are ever going to become another Halladay, they're all 3-4 guys, so Ricciardi wants to get a few of them for the best pitcher in the AL.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Gardner is out for at least two weeks with a broken thumb... John Sterling just made Hairston's RBI double sound like a routine fly ball.
The Hip Hip Jorge chant has to be the gayest fucking thing ever. The asshole chanting Hip Hip sounds like a douche.
I would easily have taken 3 RBI's in exchange for the out at 3rd. With that said, Cano needs to learn how to slide to the bag, dont over or around it....
