I'm so sick of hearing people whine about how long the games are. I agree that the MLB should work to shorten games (they could enforce a pitch clock with no runners on base or limit catcher visits to the mound, for example,) but I've heard more discussion about the length of the games this series than I have about the actual games. If you don't like it, don't watch. It's that simple. By the way, Russell Martin was unbelievably awesome in his post game interview. "All I know about that Josh Bard guy is he throws really hard...I think that's Josh Bard, I don't even know his name. What? Daniel? Oh yeah, Josh is the catcher"
I could really care less, I am a fan of neither team, but 4 and a half hours for a 9 inning game? That's nuts. I'm not in favor of any clock or anything. That's even more ridiculous.
Actually, there's already a pitch clock. The rule is just hardly ever enforced. If just one umpire called a ball on Beckett or Burnett after a long delay, it would instantly speed up the rest of the series and everybody could stop bitching.
only time I remember seeing that enforced was once during a softball game. too much talk about the length of the games, I agree, but I also agree that yankees/red sox games get to be ridiculous. No problem with guys working counts, but the batters and pitchers stalling all the time and the visits to the mound get to be wearing.
You think this is bad just wait and see if they meet in the playoffs. Those will be 6 hour games. Very happy with this win, I expected a blowout in their favor. Fuck Boston!
nah I don't actually think the playoff games would be longer. Even for Yankees/Red Sox, these games were unusually long.
I guess we'll find out if they meet. Yankees/Red Sox games are typically in the 3 and a half to four hour range.
I can't argue with the point of this at all. Maybe the hyperbole, but yeah, the ridiculous sacrifice bunts at the wrong times is fatiguing. I was flipping out until I saw Swisher in the dugout. He knew how bad he screwed up and you could tell he was thinking "If we lose because of that..." I was telling everyone who would listen yesterday to not get too excited over him. He hasn't hit well this year. If he plays every day, he'll probably blast 2 or 3 moonshots. If he's lucky, he'll knock a handful. He's not going to be a great hitter over the course of this month though. And starting him in such a huge game wasn't the greatest idea. You could tell he was nervous. Then again, now he's experienced it, and if he makes the October roster, he'll be ready for the pressure. I assume this was regarding Tex getting it. I doubt anyone thought it was intentional. Most of the time I don't think the Sox are intentionally hitting the Yankees. They just throw way too many too far inside, and that deserves a few in on the hands in return once in a while. If you can't shave bats like Rivera, stop throwing so far inside. Of course, that doesn't apply to Beckett and Lackey, who everyone knows are targetting people. Because they're douchebags. I'm not sure he should be yanked now. I think he and Hughes both deserve another shot now. Just keep CC on his schedule and let everyone else run in the 6-man. Oh come on. He was clearly past the catcher in that picture. I agree and disagree. Yes, you know how long these games are going to be before you turn them on, however, it's crazy that these midnight games are going on during the week, especially when some of it is avoidable. The Martin post-game was great. Josh Bard. Classic. Yeah, but I love how the announcers whine about it. They do realize their employers love the length of these games, right? Ad money!
I'd say that .288 / .348 / .467 with 18 homers and 67 RBI is pretty damn good when you consider that he was the youngest player in AAA for most of the season (and considering that he got off to a brutal start.) I agree with your basic point that we shouldn't expect too much from an untested rookie, but Montero is the real deal at the plate.
And the correct statement would be that he didn't hit well for the first half of the season. I mean, if we're expected to all of a sudden wrap our lips firmly around Jeter's manhood because he put on a clinic in opposite field singles for a month and a half, shouldn't we at least acknowledge that Montero was on fire in August (.308/.370/.604/.974), and that 12 of his 18 HRs have come in July (4) and August (8). Not saying there's not going to be an adjustment period, but what the kid was doing in April and May has little bearing on whether he can/will succeed at this level.
Yeah, he hit most of that later in the year. He started off dismally. He hasn't really set the world on fire in AAA this year, even after improving over the course of the year. That's not really the point though. He's going to be an amazing hitter, like elite-level. Just not this month, which is what I think people are expecting. Even Girardi said yesterday that they're hoping he'll provide a spark. That's unnecessary pressure on a kid who isn't having his best year, in a city just itching to call out the next bust publicly. Regardless, he can't be worse than Posada. At the very least, there's that.
I'm not sure the networks are making more money if the games are longer. Maybe the radio station does so that faggot Sterling can do his sponsored in game spots, but the TV station is relying on the ads between innings. I guess if there are more pitching changes they can run more ads, but I don't think Posada visiting CC three times an inning during last year's playoffs made the networks any more money. You could say the game lasting longer gives the network bigger ratings in more timeslots, but I don't think it really works that way. They just look at average rating for the game when charging ad rates, and the average rating probably goes down if the game doesn't end until 11 or 11:30. People have to go to work, kids have to go to school. A lot of the viewers are not going to want to keep a game on that late.
they can play as long as it takes , no matter to me, i'm 3 hours behind. It does get a little over the top when it comes to almost 4 hour average games between the two but that just goes to show just how important every game is beyween these two teams. I say it's a testament to the rivalry and the want both teams have to win with all the strategy and moves.
