It wasn't intentional, hit batsmn are apart of the game. Teams retaliate either after a bunch of them or if they thnk the opposing pitcher has done it intentionally. That wasn't intentional.

I think it's Tai Kwan do.

Posada wasn't looking for a fight, Varitek had intentions of fighting. Jorge was calming youkilis down- nice try though.

Ahhh. . . I see. Well, this certainly clears things up. All of the Yankee hit-batsmen are part of the game, and all of the Red Sox hit-batsmen are headhunting goons.

. . . . Funny how that works. Simple formula, really, if you look at it like that. I can see why you do.

The point was timing, was it not?

And, by the by, how would Jorge have known that his grabbing Youkilis wouldn't end in a fight? First and foremost, he was protecting his pitcher.

That's not the case at all. Who said that? In THIS case Wang clearly was not throwing at Lowell and The Sox pitcher clearly threw it at Cano. Through the years the Sox have battered Yankee hitters w/ little to no retaliation. Now we retaliated so suck it up and move on.

That is weak SJ. I am suprised at you. Posada was cooling the situation. The other situation was between the batter an catcher. I can't believe i even had to point that out.

The blond masks when A-Rod came up are hilarious.

    Okay.

Just so we're clear, are we still retaliating for knock-downs in the late 1990's? Or, have we yet cracked the 2000's? I think we should start keeping better records, so we don't lose track of the count.

Posada - such a nice boy. All about peace and tranquility.

The point was - Variteck should have flipped off his mask because there was enough time. The response - noted in this photo - is that catchers don't do that. Whether they're fighting or handing out friendship hugs to angry, opposing hitters, catchers will wear their masks because that's what they do.

We retaliated for a knock down LAST NIGHT.

He had plenty of time to take off his mask. he should have when he started jawing at Arod but it's typical Sox toughness just like pedro throwing down an 80 year old man, manny "charging the mound" w/ a bat in his hand, pedro running into the dugout in the brawl of '04 and 3 Sox including Grape Ape ganging up on tanyon Sturtze and they scratched him in the face.

RIGHT NOW it is up there, all time it's not even close to being the greatest rivaly in sports.

Dude, you're acting like this feud is something new. Sure, over the past few years, with the huge resurgence of the Red Sox organization, and public animosity between certain players, it has reached a new high. However, to act like this rivalry has been low-key over the past 80-some-odd years is silly.

There was a lull when the Sox had their GYC, but this is nothing new.

They have been playin for 100 yars and all there are only a few periods of time whn it was really rivalry. you have Bosto selling bbe and othes to the yankees, Joe D vs. ted Williams the mid-late 70s and '03-current. Other than that it has't been great, it doesn't compare all time to other great rivalries like Bears-packers, skins-cowboys, UNC-duke, Mich-OSU, ...

SJ,there is a difference. A big difference. If youre gonna say to the batter "Fuck you,,we don't throw at .200 hitters" ,if you don't take your mask off youre a pussy. Posada was difusing the situation, not insulting the batter after he took a hit. Thats like someone coming up to me in the street challenging me to a fight with a sword and sheild. A huge difference than Posada STOPPING a fight.

Well, we're just going to have to agree to disagree then.

If Arod had kept his stupid mouth shut and went to first like he should have, it never would have happened. Just because Varitek may or may not have said something about them not throwing at him on purpose, insulting or not, doesn't mean Arod should have gotten in his face. If he just went to first, there would have been no incident. It's not like Varitek went after him as he walked away looking for a fight. Who knows what Posada was saying behind his mask last night? He went all the way to first with Youkilis and never once took off his mask. It's just not what catchers do.

That was a calculated move by varitek. They knew they could ge under ARod's skins and if you remember Boston was playing awful at that point. they were 10 games back in the L column in late July and he tarted that to try to jumpstart the Sox. I hate Varitek but he accomplsihd his goal and Boston got on track starting w/ that game.

posada was clearly nt trying to fight, he was clearly trying to keep it from escalating. he put his arms on youk to keep him back. if he wanted to fight he could have said or done something and it easily could have gotten ugly.

bullshit. Varichick is a pussy and you know it. There is a huge difference. Any batter who gets hit has the right to say something. If the catcher decides to escalate the situation by making it worse with his mouth, than take your mask off. Varichick is the one who made it physical,Arod was just talking shit to the pitcher, then to him after he made is comments. He should have taken the mask off. I and many others will always see his as a fucking sissy.
