First of all, you're making a totally ridiculous argument (and changing it to make yourself "right"). The Yankees never wanted to give up Hughes, or Kennedy. The Twins were demanding them. The deal, from day one until the Mets finally took him, was Hughes, Kennedy, Cabrera (or Cano), and a top-level prospect. At any point, had Cashman said "Okay", the deal would have been made. The trade was not subject to negotiation. Either the Twins got what they wanted, or there was no deal. Therefore, the deal was as I stated. As far as sucking, I don't know how you can even make the argument with a straight face. First of all, he's twenty-two years old. He's a baby, in MLB terms. Second, sure, he had a 9.00 ERA in a whole SIX starts this year, coupled with 4 losses. But then, what about the 16 starts last year, where he went 5-3, with a 4.46 ERA, giving up 64 hits, 36 ER, 29 BB, while striking out 58 over 72.2 innings? Oh, and let's just forget the no-hitter he was throwing too, because any rookie can do that.
I don't even like Epstien, but this post is silly. First, the Beckett deal was made during the time he had left the team, so that wasn't even him. Even if it was though, it still wouldn't make sense. As many bad moves as Epstien has made (Lugo, not getting relief help at the deadline, taking pennies on the dollar for Nomar, trading for Wily Mo Pena and then giving up on him, etc), you picked three of the best moves the Sox have made recently, compared them to three disasters that Cashman has overseen, and tried to use that as evidence that Cashman is better. It makes no sense.
agree 100%. In other news, looks like Cashman has lost his free reigns. That didnt take long did it? The man is an asshole
