waaaa he doesnt really want to be a yankee...waaaaa he wants to go where the money is. yeah no shit, like 95% of every other major leaguer......and joejet youre a met fan no? you must hate beltran since he begged to be a yankee.....all of baseball is made up of mercanaries....well the teams that compete every year.
Joe's being facetious for the most part. He's been obsessed with ARod becoming a Met for months. I don't blame him for being mad now. I love how people can claim they know so much about Alex. Sorry, a man should be judged by his words and actions. All along ARod has been clean. Boras has been the one opening his mouth, and getting his face in the spotlight, not Alex. Yes, the guy wants to make as much as he can. Who doesn't? Every single one of you wants to make as much money you can at your job. Is that greedy? And any Yankee fan that is looking forward to ARod choking isn't really a Yankee fan. Best Player In The Sport. And the contract is lower than any other team would have paid him. Don't fool yourself into believing the market is that dry.
I had a feeling something like this would happen.... I look at Boras as an out of control labor union.... This was the perfect opportunity to break him.... I wouldn't be surprised if there was some collusion between the teams to do this in order to take him down a few pegs.... the entire MLB benefits by this douche bag losing some power....
Now Close to a deal.... From the Yankees website http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news...t_id=2300695&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy NAPLES, Fla. -- The New York Yankees are getting close to re-signing third baseman Alex Rodriguez to a multi-year contract that would pay him as much as $290 million, multiple baseball sources told MLB.com as the owners gathered here Wednesday for the final quarterly meetings of the year. Though one source cautioned that the Yankees "don't have a deal yet," the possibility of it happening was the main topic of conversation as committees met on Wednesday in preparation for Thursday morning's joint session of the 30 owners and/or their representatives. The news came only hours after Rodriguez confirmed making direct contact with the Yankees with the hope of reviving his future in New York. In a statement posted on AROD.com, Rodriguez's official Web site, he said that he had spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family and is taking part in continuing dialogue with the club. "After spending time with [wife] Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization," Rodriguez said. "Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness." Randy Levine, the team's president who is in town for the meetings, declined to comment on the Rodriguez situation, saying only that he didn't want to "negotiate in the press." But a baseball source at the meetings with knowledge of the negotiations said that the Yankees now have an open dialogue with Rodriguez. The source also denied a report published on Wednesday that the Yankees specifically told A-Rod that they would not negotiate with Scott Boras, his agent. The source added that Rodriguez "reached out" to the Yankees, but that the team has "no right to tell anyone who should represent" any player. A team, of course, can talk directly with a player as long as it doesn't try to circumvent his representation. The Padres did just that last week with right-hander Greg Maddux, another Boras client, when the San Diego club and pitcher came to a verbal agreement on a one-year extension to his contract worth $10 million. The paperwork on the deal, said Padres general manager Kevin Towers at the time, was being handled by Boras. Citing his comfort in New York, Rodriguez confirmed that he approached the Yankees through a third-party intermediary. "I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message," Rodriguez said. "I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation. "Cynthia and I have since spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the Yankees over the next few days." The Yankees are apparently unconcerned that Rodriguez's overture could be a ploy to generate interest in the 11-time All-Star and probable 2007 American League MVP. While most clubs would love to add a player of Rodriguez's magnitude, teams with the financial wherewithal to realistically do it this offseason have proven scarce. hot stove Complete coverage > Even the Players Association released a statement last week saying it was concerned that teams were colluding against Rodriguez by sharing monetary information about his status, a strict abrogation of the Basic Agreement. The Yankees originally backed away from Rodriguez after Game 4 of the World Series when Boras delivered word that Rodriguez had opted out of his contract and forfeited the remaining three years and $81 million on his deal. At the time, Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner dismissed talk of pursuing A-Rod, saying, "It's goodbye." Yankees general manager Brian Cashman reiterated numerous times that the Yankees could not fiscally pursue Rodriguez if he opted out, citing the loss of a $30 million subsidy the Rangers agreed to pay when the Yankees acquired him prior to the 2004 season in exchange for second baseman Alfonso Soriano. In fact, the makeup of the new deal, if it is signed, will probably have Rodriguez forgoing that money at the front end while the Yankees pay more per annum at the back end of the deal, a practice the club favors in its long-term contracts. Rodriguez, 32, is the clear-cut favorite to be named AL MVP when the award is announced on Monday. It would be Rodriguez's third time bringing home the honor in his career, and the second in four seasons as a member of the Yankees. Rodriguez led the Major Leagues in home runs (54), RBIs (156) and runs scored (143) in 2007, batting .314 with 24 stolen bases while helping the Yankees dig out of an early hole and attain the AL Wild Card before falling to the Indians in the AL Division Series. He also clubbed his 500th home run on Aug. 4 against the Royals, becoming the youngest player in history to reach that mark.
The return of Babe Ruth a.k.a. "Arod" Those who criticize Arod's playoff's performance, Let me remind you, the Yanks would not have been in the playoff's if it weren't for Arod. It was his bat that got them there. When it comes to crunch time, the other players need to step it up as well. It's not just Arod with the lack of production. Great pitching can quiet the best of bats. On the other hand I still feel that once the deal with Arod goe's through, the yanks should continue to pursue Johan Santana, and work on a 1st baseman. Miguel Cabrera can easily play 1st considering that he's to fat to play 3rd. another option would be Derek Lee I heard that he's up for grabs, now Lee is a stud first baseman, and I would love to have him on my team, 30+ hr.'s guaranteed, and a former gold glover with speed, the Yanks really got a look at that guy. Tori Hunter is another guy who the Yanks should strongly pursue. Hunter stated that he's more concerned about winning, and being part of a winning team than money. With a reasonable offer he can easily become a Yankee. If the Yanks could at least pick up 2 or 3 of the guys I just mentioned the world series trophy would be coming back home to the Bronx where it belongs. ricky williams
Both sides are hypocrites, Arod comes back after opting out and the Yankees talk to him after they said they wouldn't. They deserve each other.
Not really. Arod never said he didn't want to be a Yankee, in fact he said he wanted to be a Yankee for life. The Yankees said they wouldn't negotiate with Boras, which they didn't do. They never said they wouldn't speak to Arod.
Last I heard Arod's agent is Boras, if the Yankees want Arod then they have to deal with Boras. If Arod sticks with Boras and the Yankees don't want to deal with him for whatever reason then they should just let Arod go sign elsewhere if they hate Boras that much.
I applaud ARod for FINALLy doing the right thing and taking control of his situation rather than just go for the most money. Althouhg I am sure a shrninking arket played arole he showed me something swallowing his pride and taking a lesser deal from the yanks(assuming this gets done). Now if he can only hit in October we'll be all set.
They dealt with Arod and made the deal. Arod told Boras to write up the contract. That's hardly dealing with Boras. What they wouldn't do is negotiate with Boras and let him shop the Yankee offer around with any other interested teams. They didn't. End of story. There may be some incentives that need the wording worked out on and Boras is doing that now. Read this and you will know that it's not just the Yankees that hate Boras. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7449344
I keep thinking how intriguing that idea is. They need a first baseman anyway and if they could somehow get him with a package of second tier prospects that would give them a better lineup then they even had with Sheffield here. Two power hitting RH bats again. Like you said, Cabrerra is going to be playing first sooner rather then later anyway.
We don't need all-star bats at every position, I am more than happy if mienkewicz returns or if Andy Phillips is getting most of the time at 1B. We need some defense.
Rumor is Mienkewicz is gone leaving Phillips and Giambi at first. One more year of that bloated contract and actually I would prefer they keep everybody to try and get Santana. Problem with that is I hear there is so much political pressure on the Twins not to trade him before the season starts that it probably won't happen.
In the long run it would wok out better for us if Minny didn't trade him this year b/c we could sign him after this season w/o givng up players but I'll be shocked if Mnny doesn't trade him.
Yeah, I would be too but it will probably be at the trade deadline which should make him a little cheaper anyway.
Hey..you have to love an ownership team, that is willing to commit 350 odd million dollars (Arod,Mariano,Posada) to put a failed product BACK on the field....
That's only a start..and it's not really failed. It has been the best team in baseball for a decade even though it hasn't won a WS in 7 years. Probably 1 ace away from winning 5 in a row.
Not looking forward to it....but what has he shown you to believe that he'll come thru when he is needed in the clutch? I've always been a Yankee fan, but I don't agree with signing him....we'll never win with this guy. Nobody has.
