To be an excellent 3rd/4th starter. When healthy, Pettitte was dominant during his time in Houston. We'd be idiots to pass on him and let Boston sign him while we pursue Jeff Suppan or Ted Lilly.

If he is signed for 3rd/4th starter money, then fine. But I'm sure he'll be overrated and overvalued (the story of Pettitte's career) and given way more than he deserves.

I'd LOVE to see Pettite back, that'd be a great move, he's got some good stuff left in him, and I'm sure he'd come back to the old Andy Pettite if he's back in pinstripes, and maybe he can bring Roger back with him...

Any starting pitcher signed in this thin a market is going to be overpriced. If you need any evidence, just look at the figure we are going to pay Mike Mussina next year.

$11M per isn't overpaying for a pitcher like Mussina. Pettitte doesn't deserve double figures. 1 yr., $7-8M would be fine. Considering he would be taking Wright's spot in the rotation, that'd be a definite upgrade.

Over the last 2 seasons, Pettitte is 31-22 with an ERA of 3.30. Mussina is 28-15 with an ERA of 3.96.

I really don't see a huge difference between them, even if you give Moose the benefit of the doubt for pitching in the AL East.

The difference is Pettitte's elbow. Mussina each year has had small, lingering injuries, but nothing major. This past year he would've won close to 20 games and had a much lower ERA had he not suffered the groin injury. Pettitte isn't really bothered by lingering injuries, but he has an elbow that could blow up at any minute. Some team might give him a similar contract (multi-year), but they're taking a big risk.

That's a valid point. I'd say that in a longterm deal (3+ years) Mussina clearly outvalues Pettitte, but they'd be around equal for a one or two year contract.

This is a moot point anyway though, because no GM in his right mind would give either of these guys anything more than 2 years.

Now pettitte is overratd but you stilldefend ARod:drunk: Andy has had many ARod-like postseason games but he's also had many anti-Arod postseason games that helped us win Championships.

Junc, why do you keep saying 10P10 defends ARod? He doesn't.

As for Pettite. If I was going to give a 2-year, $11M deal to only one guy, and my choice was between Moose and Pettite, I'd take Pettite, hands-down, every time.

The Astros are not the Yankees. Pettite here is a totally different pitcher. As far as him not being spectacular here, I guess that's subject to interpretation. My interpretation is that he was great.

Why do you still say I defend A-Rod? I've told you directly multiple times that I would like to see him traded. Why is reading comprehension such a difficult fucking concept with you?

You defended him most of the year, that's what I remember.

10P10 has very open for an Arod trade after the postseason was over. I think we've all accepted the fact that this is a horrible environment for him to play in.

According to Buster Olney, if the Yankees lose the bidding for Matsuzaka, their plan B is Schmidt.

Did Schmidt give up on staying on the west coast? I'm not a fan of his as is.
