I don't make crap up. sorry charlie, Marks cap number for this season is 12,853,125, the 2013 hard salary cap is 123 million, the plus 3 million or so in rollover from last season. Do the math, that's roughly 10% of the salary cap, as I said. Yes you have to pay your QB, or a QB, but Mark's way out of line. In fact he's the 10th largest cap hit of any QB in the league, and I'd trade him in a heartbeat for any of the top 25 QB's in the league. (hint Mark ranks #31 among active starters in most categories). The Jets have an estimated 8 million in cap space right now with ALOT of holes to fill still. So tell me Einstein, how do the jets fill their roster AND pay Revis inside of those numbers and then tell me Sanchez's cap numbers have NOTHING to do with not being able to sign other players. The fact is I'd take just about any QB in the league over Sanchez. Period.
Walsh all but handed the job to Steve Young? Really? Remember a man named Joe Montana? You know the Stud QB for the 49ers up until 1990. or maybe you mean how Young couldn't step up in 1991 after being given the reigns....I mean he only completed 64.5% of his passess, averaged 9.0 yards per attempt, a 6.1% TD percentage, and a modest 2.9% interception percentage and despite the fact I despise QBR as a measuring tool he led the league in it his first year as a starter for the 49ers. But yeah, he was practically "handed the job and couldn't step up". But yeah, right whatever.
And all of them have had more success than Sanchez. Luck for example, 54% completion rate, yes. 4,374 yards, 7 yards per attempt, interception percentage of 2.9%, yes he threw a lot of picks but he threw ALOT of passes, 627 to be exact. put that in context with sanchez's 4 seasons. He's been over 3% picks in 3 of 4 years, never hit 7 yards per attempt and been over 54% exactly once in completion percentage while sanchez had thrown more than 3300 yards once, and only been over 3000 yards twice in his career. Despite not knowing what any of the kids you listed will be in the future, they've all had more success than Sanchez and I'd take any of them. Case in point, take Cam. Like you said he took a step back this year...AND STILL had a better season than any of Sanchez's. But then again, looking at it Cam really didn't regress much, in fact statistically he was basically better in every category save total yards (his yards per attempt were better last year than his rookie year) and TD% than he had been the previous year. I'll take that kind of "regression" any day of the week over Sanchez's best.
Ever hear of a rookie salary cap? To win a Super Bowl you don't have to have a 12mil guaranteed contract as a QB. Tell me which QB competing in last years Super Bowl was being paid more than Sanchez in 2012? ....and those were actual effective QB's, not a guy who should be holding a clipboard. We will have a hard time winning 8 games next year, and a part of that reason is our inability to cut Sanchez and clear out space from the albotross contract... and to the bolded part, i'm glad you have healthy self esteem.
You know who voted for the rookie salary cap...guys already in the NFL Its kind of like Abortion...only people already born can support it. The greed of the players allowed the owners to turn out the veterans like two dollar ho's . Look at the avaialable FA talent and the downward pressure on salaries Ps...fitzpatrick with a more recent signing got CUT 24 mil, two years bc of the guarantee.l.do you really believe Sanchez is alive because of his cap number? Tell me which of last years ...wait did you last year (gilyard, gates, rueland sparano?) lets go back one season sonce you are too smart to hold injuries against the QB. Which QB in the SB, or...in NFL hostory beat Sanchez to 30 wins. Or four road playoff wins Our consecutive afc tirle games in his first two years.
Cam actually had the best 2 first years by a QB... ever. Better than Peyton and every other HOF QB. His team hasnt had much success because of poor coaching and a horrible defense, but he has certainly lived up to the hype. Like you said, Id take any one of them over Sanchez. Id rather one of them than Revis and all that he entails. To add on to Luck, he aslo did all that without his head coach for the majority of the season and a legitimate 2-14 team. The talent around him was absolutely horrible. Aside from Reggie Wayne, who many thought was washed up heading into last season, he had no one; a bunch of rookies and a porous OL.
Youre a moron, there are 5 guys in Az and Jville alone that cant carry Sanchezs jock...and thats before you get to Freeman,Fitzpatrick amd Rivers.
revis is getting paid 6 million this year. well under going rate for top notch cornerbacks. sanchez didnt exactly help the team out or give any money back when he SIGNED AN EXTENSION... as a matter of fact we are stuck with this fucking tool when we could have been rid of him last year. great fucking deal he gave us... http://www.nyjetscap.com/2012_Articles/sanchezcontracthits.html very few guys are so nice to give money back to the team, and they NEVER do it if they dont have to. so lets stop making sanchez out to be some kind of saint and revis out to be some kind of asshole.
Revis contracts are heavily front loaded. That's the reason why he keep recalling the work "holdout" by the end of his contracts.
Now that the CB market value has gone down it becomes more reasonable to keep the perennial All-Pro. He won't be getting $15m+ from anyone.
this is very true, im not sure what it will take but it wont be anywhere near what some thought a year or 2 ago.
If it makes you feel better, they both count for less against the cap in 2013 as well, even with Flacco's new contract.
very much so. he likes the guaranteed money. i dont blame him. his contract was 7 years 55 million or almost 8 million per year. but in reality it was 4 years 46 million because the final 3 years void if he doesnt hold out. so thats 11.5 million per year. or under market value at the time he signed it and probably about market value at this point. i really think the jets can get something done with him at this point. i think that they may be able to do it for around the same amount. and i just refuse to call the guy an asshole because he wants to protect his interests and be paid what his play commands.
My goal was to point out the your $6M per year figure for this year, while technically correct does not tell the whole story. And I hope you didn't get impression that I'm shitting on Revis because he is trying to get as much $$ as possible. Not at all! Players window of opportunity is short and they gotta push for every cent. I get it and have no problem with it. My opinion re DR is that It is in Jets best interests to trade him. Not because he is a shitty player -- I believe he is one of the best players Jets ever had. And not because he wants ... However much -- his skills (injuries aside) are top notch. I think Revis needs to be traded because its in the best interests of the team long-term.
Go back and listen to the players talk about Young those were their words not mine. Walsh wanted Young to start over an older Joe Montana. Why do you think Joe hated him. Believe what you want when Steve was ready to step up Joe was playing for Kansas City if I recall.
Come on a guy on his rookie contract that will command a lot of money and a guy that waited to negotiate and is now the highest paid player in the NFL. The only reason Marks cap hit is so high this year is because he restructured to help the team. He is not paid like one of the top 10 QBs in the league and it delayed having to make a decision on Sanchez last year.
I don't know if you are a recent fan or not, but it was common knowledge that the current contract was structured as it was to give both parties an incentive to negotiate a new contract this off season. The little bit of leverage the Jets have right now is that if Revis does not agree to an extension, he has to play 13 at a substantial discount from market. But since it is a contract year the Jets also have an incentive to renegotiate. In short it was designed that way. For both parties.
Awww Hobbes, for the salary difference I'd take any one of them over Sanchez. If your going to suck at QB go cheap.
