junc's always been disgustingly obsessed with "clutchness", but hilariously it's reached the point where 1-3 with a HR is a "bad game" just because the HR came during a blowout.
I couldn't care less about a HR down 11-0. That's his only hit, i expect he'll be fine here so I am not getting on him but he has been awful at the plate his first few games. I'm obsessed w/ winning and HR's hit when down 11-0 do not help your team win. They look nice and make guys like ARod look better than they really are but I want to win and that means our players have to come through when it matters.
junc, why even comment? Taking shots at the guy after two games? He's a very good hitter and the trade was a steal. No reason to say "he's been awful" when he just came. Plus, it wasn't his fault that Mussina and Robertson let the Orioles smack them around. He hit a homer. He made a good throw to Jeter to cut down Roberts at the plate.
I didn't take a shot I stated a fact. I don't have anything against him, I think he'll be fine and it was obviously a good trade but he hasn't been good in his 3 games as a Yankee.
that's called judging a player immediately. Otherwise, there's no point in commenting. And I don't care what you say about the score, he had a good game last night.
So here's a question, when it was early in the game, and his throw led to an out recorded at home, was he having a good game? Also, exactly how does a player help his team win, except by getting hits? He hit a homer. It doesn't matter when he hit it, he hit it. It's on the other 9 guys to contribute something as well. It's a team sport. Individuals can accomplish anything during a game, but the entire team must perform to win. Let's say Nady had hit a solo home run in every single at-bat last night. By your thinking, junc, he would still have had a bad night, since he hit garbage time home runs that didn't help his team win.
The play at the plate was a mistake by Bal's 3rd base caoch., That guy was out by 2 miles. I'll give Nady credit but Damon could have began that relay and still easily gotten him at the plate. When the game was close early he couldn't get a hit then down 11 he hits a HR. It's called an Arodian at bat. AGAIN, I'm not judging him on these 3 games, I think he'll be fine but he just hasn't been so far. If he had hits in every AB then I wouldn't call it garbage time b/c he would have had hits when the game was w/in reach.
The likelihood of a comeback is much greater if you start scoring in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd inning rather than the 7th. if it's 11-4 after 1-3 we still have a chance. You have more outs to play w/.
Fallacy of the predetermined outcome aside, it could've been 8 if his ground rule double stayed in, and if Abreu knew basic fundamentals.
