I would add safety to that list too, unless the resign Landry and Bush or Allen turn out to be special.
I would think that we likely roll with Bush Allen Smith (we restructure/resign him after this year) and then Bell (till he retires) for the next couple of years. But we certainly could use another FS type to compliment Bush, I just dont think its a big need, especially considering how "cheap" of a position safety is. Id rather draft a big money position (tackle, pass rusher, reciever) then get the cheap stuff (safety, guard) in either FA or middle rounds Obviously BPA is the name of the game, but assuming talent is similar you gotta go for the more expensive guys
I have weakened my stance toward 4-men front. As long as DeVito holds up at strongside DE and Coples pans out as the weakside DE, 4-men front will be effective with Mo Wilk at 3T. I don't see DT as a need. That said, if Jets want to bolster pass rush with 4 men front, DeVito just does not cut it. Another edge-rusher is a must; Davis and Harris both have enough lateral quickness, thus one more 4-3 OLB in 3rd or 4th should be sufficient. And while I do admit pass rushing DE is a premier position player, I wouldn't be too upset if Jets drafted OT in 1st round, with DE at 2nd and OLB at 3rd, and FS at 4th. If Powell continues to grow, maybe Jets are set at RB spot with Greene and Powell in the backfield, with Connor at FB. If there is a prospect that can alter the game (a TE that can both block, catch and streak down the field) then Jets would do well to go after such prospect; DE pick becomes luxury pick with such a prospect waiting.
aaahhhh. i knew this would show up pretty soon. it may become evident in the next few weeks that we may have a top 10 pick next year..... so are we gonna add QB to the list of needs? not sure at this point but likely not. many, many other holes to fill and even at this early stage it would behoove the jets to take the steeler approach and rebuild at least 2/5ths of the OL next off season with high draft picks and not FA.
Dude is a red-zone nightmare indeed, 6-7 250 pounds. He's 5 inches taller than Keller. He's also got good concentration on the football which is a good talent. Hopefully the Jets look at this guy. Watching him right now against a tough Nebraska team, he boxed out a defender, focused on the football and made the play.
just watched some videos on joseph fauria. seems like he has pretty good hands. i would love it if we pick this guy up. olb, te, s, ol, rb, are the positions i would like to see us pick up in the draft.
Pretty sure he has another year before he enters. He is probably a first round lock, crazy good athlete.
Stepfan Taylor had a huge game vs USC........150+ yards 2 TDs. Last weeK: Jarvis Jones had nine tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles. Sat out this week with a groin injury to rest for the SEC schedule.
Great player, has too many injuries that could concern NFL personnel. I don't like the idea of spending a 1st Rd pick on a RB, I'm certain Rex would agree 100%. There are some very good OLBs that will be available in Rd 1 that would fill a need.
I agree, the Jets will look to upgrade their RB position. They are going to let Greene go as a free agent and get an explosive starting RB for their ground and pound. I think Jones is going to be a top 5 pick, he will not be there for the Jets to pick unless the season is a complete disaster.
Jarvis Jones won't be a top 5 pick, especially with the availablity of some top QBs in 2013. Linebackers generally don't get drafted in the Top 5 and Jones isn't a top 5 value. Jones is a great player, but the value ($) to a franchise doesn't equate to pay a linebacker top dollar. I could see Jones going in the 8-15 range next April. In fact, if any LB goes in the top 5 next year it should be Manti Te'o Here's a list of Top 5 LBs drafted the last 12+ years. 2011 Von Miller 2 2009 Aaron Curry 4 2006 A.J. Hawk 5 2000 LaVarr Arrington 2 The Jets aren't dumping Greene, if he underperforms this year, Tanny will reflect his play with his salary. I agree that it's an important year for Greene. Look for the Jets to address the RB position in rd 2 or 3. Again, Stepfan Taylor would be an ideal fit.
agree, i think the earliest a RB comes is R2. like to see the love for OLB - we sorely need to replenish that position with good college talent - not free agents or undraftees. we'll see, me thinks they will be drafting a bit higher than last year.
Right now, not knowing what Tanny and Rex are going to address in free agency, I'm leaning toward an OLB, ILB (Te'O) or OT in Rd 1. If Te'O is available, even with Davis from last draft, it would be difficult to pass him by. This is probably Scott's last year and Harris isn't getting any younger. The need at OLB is very clear, all of our starting LBs are long in the tooth. We'll have to see how our O-Line (RT) pans out. I'm hoping Howard continues to improve. If not, a player like Jake Matthews would be a nice option at RT. I love players wiith solid blood lines and Matthew's comes from one of the best. I agree we need to look for another RB, I'm still a huge Stepfan Taylor fan, but if he continues his outstanding play, he's going to be a late Rd 1 selection in the area of Doug Martin last year.
Jarvis is #1 on McShay's latest board. There's nobody right now I would rather have on the Jets that would be available in the draft. That could change, but I love Jarvis Jones. Some running back will fall, we just have to take the right one. I don't think we necessarily need to take one in the first round, but one in the first 4 rounds again would be nice. Te'o would be a nice fit. So would DJ Fluker and Chance Warmack at Alabama. Curious to watch Mingo and Montgomery at LSU play more to see who fits better at 3-4 OLB. Corey Lemonier from Auburn is another possible swing OLB who I've liked what I've seen from (haven't seen him a ton).
After he tore up his knee, he is still not 100% but ever game he is getting his burst back. He had 90 yrds rushing and I think 70 in the air. Thats alot better than what we are getting out of Greene. Now I understand value vs need in the draft, but if he is there in rnd 2 we need to look real hard.
