I know last time I checked GM isn't a coach so Rex shouldn't be in on the decision. I also think Woody was making that statement to notify things are going to change from what they had done in the previous season. Translation Rex will no longer pick the players. Whether this will be true who knows. It's hard to take anything the Jets FO says on face value.
I swear every former Jet gets invloved in bashing the team once they retire, Woody,Jenkins,LT,Jason Taylor, now Westoff
Yeah, this ain't just Joe Namath being a kook/sellout anymore, it's not an accident people are critical of the team when they leave, and not all of those guys had an axe to grind when they left. I don't have much of an issue with what Westhoff said, it's just...CAN THIS SEASON EVER END ALREADY?! I mean it's one thing after another, it would have been fine with me if Westhoff had done these interviews right after the season as opposed to days after Rex/Woody's comedy routine, where you thought 'at least' now we could finally get away from Jets nonsense. Now it's almost like this is just timed to keep the Jets in the news. Enough is enough already, let's just fumigate the room, get new people in here and see if Rex can make this work since we're stuck with him for the long haul. Everyone just needs to shut the **** up for a few months, and try to change things to make it work instead of *****ing about it ad nauseum.
I don't think Westhoff was very critical or anything he had to say was that big of a surprise. Maybe how they didn't draw up any plays for Tebow after they boasted of the secret wildcat they would unveil did raise an eyebrow. I valued what Westoff had to say because you get so little truth out of the Jets organization. I view the Jets like an alcoholic, you have to admit you have a problem before you can get better.
get real people, the jets are a bunch of retards!! period we all know that. westoff tells it how he sees it and we bash him, save it for someone whos listening. get ready for an absolute loser upcoming season. we sit here waiting for someone to take a gm job while all promising prospects get hired by other teams, thats right someone to take the job because there isnt any line of competent prospects for woody to pick from.another year with rex equates to another losing season, but lets not blame rex cause hes getting paid, the # 1 loser is woody !!!!!!!!!!!!
Westhoff was saying what most of us have been thinking all year. This thread was started by a jilted homer, and has only been agreed with by jilted homers. The only reason that Westy may not be a smashing success as a TV analyst is that these pathetic football outlets spend most of their time promoting know-nothing jackasses who get the soundbite instead of actually taking football. Mike Westhoff is a brilliant football mind and is fascinating to listen to, for people that know football. For me, his only drawback is that he likes the sound of his own voice more than I do. No humility in that man.
Just listened to the whole interview & thought Westhoff carried himself well. He pretty much nailed everything we already knew. Jets never seriously never made an effort to integrate Tebow. Also states Tebow was not a quitter towards the ending of the season despite all the articles which stated otherwise. D was solid but but had weaknesses there to exploit & opponents did so. Sanchez needed help. The problems with the Jets are bigger than one person. Tanny fucked up the salary cap & it killed the overall depth on this team. ====== If you can listen to this interview and think Westhoff took low blows shitting all over the Jets organization then you really need to work on some critical thinking exercises.
and if we take the time to do that and Sanchez is still inaccurate and weak in the pocket presence dept, what have we accomplished?
I don't. The Jets make a ton of money by being the biggest buzz team in the league. If I had worked for them, I'd cash in, too.
Right, go ahead and latch onto that. Ignore the fact that the Jets sometimes spent entire games in good field position and couldn't score.
So, he's honest BFD. The D was suspect at tiimes, is he putting a gloss on his unit, sure. But the D has come up small in big spots, we all know that.
I'm sure there's plenty of truth in what Westhoff is saying, but it's disappointing that he jumped on his first opportunity to feed the sports media vultures who were circling his team for the entire season.
It was probably all true, but he should have kept his mouth shut. The Jets employed him for a long time and as soon as he retires, he criticizes the team publicly! That shows pretty poor character. Also, the special teams were awful this past season. Maybe he should discuss that. I guess he was so busy getting the inside scoop for his media career that he didn't have time to do his job.
Have to kind of be very careful here. It's one thing for an ACTIVE player or coach to leave a team, go to another, and then start airing dirty laundry about his former team, or criticizing them. That said, when a coach or player retires and becomes an "analyst" (either de facto or de jure), that's a completely different animal.
