This is going to be some show today. You know Fatty is gonna bait Westy like crazy.... anything to get him to say something negative, and then Fatso has material to talk about it all next week... "Westhoff said dis and Westhoff said dat..."

This spot on. He even said that they would get punted on and Mark would start at the 10...sure, but if the ST unit was better at returns (when possible, obviously, if it's downed at the 5 not much they can do) maybe he wouldn't have been.

Our punting team was pretty good but virtually every other facet of ST was bad or just plain terrible. I don't have the numbers to compare them to last year but it seems to me that they were worse at returns this year but had far fewer turnovers. Again, I don't have the numbers but that's how it looked to me. We just fair caught everything but at least we didn't fumble it like we did far too often last year.

Why you find it odd? the man ran the special teams - he isn't going to criticize himself. I guess that would be par for the course, tell it the way it is, except when it comes to yourself.

Westhoff just seems like he would accept responsibility.
He has a long enough track record, that most would realize execution and personnel shuffling throughout the year contributing to the poor ST play. He'd get a pass just based on his track record, so seems odd he didn't really address it at all.

In regards to above post about Punts.....why the F did Kerley routinely fair catch the ball inside the 5? take your chances on a touchback. wonder if that drove Westy crazy..

man westhoff is gold. good stuff so far.

punter vs. placekicker - westhoff would rather have a better placekicker. interesting.

haha - pats punter is like "the maytag repairman" hahaha

says RR has great passion and knows defense.

also says RR needs to spread that kind of passion to the offensive side of the ball.

    giving props to luvie smith.

sounds a bit dissapointed in the way of the league and salary cap influence.

shame about the tebow thing and all. loved tebow.

wow - may not be done coaching - u never know....

gives major props to the new jets special teams coach.

Francesa wasn't satisfied what Westhoff said in the interview. He wouldn't pile on Rex or pile on the Tebow situation. Westhoff talking about Rex's first two seasons, saying the team was very good, very close to the Super Bowl. Francesa all quiet. So Francesa decided to say what Westhoff really meant when the interview was over.

    So ridiculous.

"30% of the coaches in this league get fired every black Monday. that's the industry. 30% of plumbers don't get canned, even though there are backed up toilets somewhere"

    Westy is gold.

Also fully supported Rex, and disagreed with this notion on knee jerk reactions to firing coaches. Mentioned he got fired in Miami after his best special teams season ever.

Surprisingly Fatty asked a lot of solid football questions regarding special teams.
and for once Fatty wasn't shouting and agenda driven when discussing the Jets.
He must like Westhoff. told him he thinks he'll be good in tv career. actually a nice informative interview. i haven't seen one of those in over a year.....can't believe it came from Fatty.

That is not what he said. What he said was that the defense was vulnerable in the middle when they had a long field. Teams exploited that. When teams reached midfield our defense tightened up.

haha there was a bit of that.
Fatty started using words like 'mess' and 'dysfunctional' which Westhoff never said. But the interview overall actually had football merit and wasn't sensational BS.

    Yeah, unbeleivable, what a tool.

so he basically failed to bait Westhoff.......who seemed to temper his stance from this morning.

Fatty, fished and fished and failed.

then Francessa qualified Westhoff's personal opinion after he was off the phone by saying that some of what he said was true (becasue Westhoff had good things to say about Rex)

By the way, Westy, i do not see a TV/Radio career in your future.

He couldn't bait Westy very well... he's too samrt for that, so the only negatives he had to work with was to go back to the morning interview and say that "Westhoff said the Jets were dysfunctional, and they were."

Fatso gave his appraisal of Tebow, saying "he could probably win you some games playing his way... his style... but he'll never take you to the promised land becasue he can't throw."

I got the impression that maybe Westhoff told him before the interview that he wasn't there to drag the Jets through the mud.

But now Fatso is still railing on and on (Westy is off the air) and he's basically back to the Tebow thing... dysfunctionality, etc., etc.

You knew this was coming at some point.

Yep now he's back to his MO.
Making up his own interpretations of what coaches have 'said', and acting like his fabricated interpretation is fact, and justification for his arguments.
Nothing football related mind you......presser related. "we were told this, and rex said that". all off field stuff.
his standard MO for last 4 years.

I agree with Westhoff. His comments were accurate, but they don't indicate circus. They indicate we have holes on the roster. That doesn't mean it's okay to claim he's bashing the organization and post it on the main page as if that's what he's doing. He's not.

There's A LOT that could be written about the GM search. There could be an article about who we've interviewed, who we have the most interest in, the status of them, and where some of the candidates have signed, their accomplishments and history. It would make it easier than reading 10 different GM threads and putting the pieces all together. That would be a nice informative article on the most important thing in the Jets organization right now, but apparently painting Westhoff as a dickhead is more important.

He couldn't get enough negative material from the interview, so he's back to his usual schtick.

Mostly ragging on Tebow now... really hammering him... the implication being, the Jets were nuts for bringing him in in the first place.

i for one would LOVE to see actual expert analyis of ST strategies employed around the league. What is working, what is not.
Maybe i have an affinity for ST, but i could listen to punt and kickoff strategies and field position any day.
None of these talking heads discuss it, coz they don't know much about it.

I'd also like to hear more of his ideas regarding the NFL trying to remove huge aspects of ST from the game. He has very good ideas that could accomplish more safety while keeping ST in the game.
More casual fans need to be exposed to this, as the NFL could really ruin quality of game if they make the wrong decisions.
