If you trade Wilk or Sheldon for Houston, then paying Houston, you are still paying whichever two players you have (Wilk/Sheldon, Wilk/Houston, Sheldon/Houston) big contracts so it isn't as if you are saving money.

Im looking looking at it as us saving money. Its hard to have 2 huge contracts like that on your roster and be able to get it at a bargain. Houston is the type of guy that you pay max $$ to. KC just doesnt seem to see it that way for whatever reason.

Sometimes another teams stinginess is enough teams gain. If..and its a big if , but if KC makes Houston available there are a bunch of teams out there Im sure that will pay him what he wants.

Yes... If we're talking 5yrs/70M (14M/yr)... Not something like Suh will get

But then you have to go bargains with the other signees; no big time names like McCourty, Culliver, Orlando Franklin, etc.

In such a scenario I might also look to trade Coples to a 4-3 team

As much as I love Houston and think he would be amazing behind our DL, there's no way on earth I'd trade the #6 pick for him. He would eat up too much cap space, and Mariota could be there.

The Jets led the league in sacks last year. Why concentrate additional salary for a unit that is already the strength of the team while other units need so much attention?

With the talent of Jets DL, they don't NEED blue-chip edge rusher; certainly not at market value. You can [draft] such blue chip guys and trade them off for more picks down the road, but the bottom line is, Jets have to have the DL to ensure such production. Hell no.

Keep the pick and sign Brian Orakpo instead.

No . That pick could be the key to our franchise with the Eagles possible trade or another one.

In fact I'll even say this. If Mariota is on the board I absolutely promise we will be making a trade that will put the jets back on the map long term. Id never trade our potentially largest bargaining chip ever for 1 player.

The only reason for having a GM is so we can draft our own Justin Houston for about $1.5M/yr for the next 5 years. Then spend the $100M you just saved on hotdogs or whatever. Then when our own Houston is due big bucks for his 2nd contract trade him to Oakland for 2 firsts and start over.

Good lord man that's some level z stuff right there. Of course maybe we'd get a nicer looking stadium this time? Or maybe even one that they don't share with the Giants.

They didn't, they ended up tied for 6th with the Jacksonville Jaguars with 45 sacks.

    I woułdnt do it.

If he became a FA I'd pay him what he wants. Or take Fowler at #6.

But I'm not giving up the #6 pick just for the right to pay him a king's ransom.
