This may be a dumb question but what is wrong with the Meadowlands now? They just built the new Luxury boxes a few years ago. I do not have a problem with the stadium now, and it looks in good condition. Why do we need our "own" stadium? That is an excuse people make when we have a bad season. I did not hear that excuse in 1998 or even this year. Like when Steinbrenner said the Yankees can not play in the Bronx. Win Championships and you can play anywhere. All this new stadium stuff is B.S. I Worry about the product on the field, not how nice the stadium is. Losing a game in a 1.6 Billion dollar home will be the same as losing a game in a dump.
I think blaming the fans who were against the WSS is absurd - there is no one here (or on any other message board) who had the slightest effect on what ultimately happened. You can blame Woody, the Dolans, and the NY pols, but blaming the fans is IMO ridiculous. The "You asked for it, now you got what you deserve" posts imply that a fan on TGG expressing preference for a NJ stadium somehow means that they're responsible for whatever happens, which makes no sense. I say that, of course, as someone who was against the WSS, for all of the reasons that winston mentioned. This inferiority complex that Jets fans have regarding sharing the stadium is quite mysterious to me, since the Giants will be sharing it too (it will NOT be Giants Stadium, no matter what anyone else says). Who cares if the Giants practice facility is nearby? How does that change the experience of going to a Jets game even slightly? And if the current stadium is already costing twice what was expected, there is every reason to believe that the same would have been true for the WSS - and in that case the extra cost wouldn't be shared with anyone.
The Giants facilities aren't going to be nearby. Nearby makes it sound like they will be where the Meadowland Diner is now. They are going to be part of the stadium complex. So when you drive in, when you walk around, it's going to say Giants all over the place, even on J!E!T!S! days. I just hope the new stadium has spirals so the "halftime entertainment" remains the same. LOL
You know what, Sect105? You're absolutely right. I had no problem with the stadium the way it is either, other than the fact that we were tenants. The state should have coerced the Giants into restructuring our deal and we could have bought into it over a period of time. But it got out of hand after the Jets announced they were tired of being tenants and began talking about the WSS, and then the Giants announced they were building their own stadium too. But yeah, I'd have sat in the old stadium (but change the freakin' name on the building). There really is not much wrong with the old stadium. It's functional, it's in pretty good shape and it's paid for.
I did not vote since I will easily sell my tix. But why have such a poll when the answer is most obvious that most fans do not want to pay for PSLs & under any circumstances no matter what we supported WSS or M/lands the NYJs would have done whatever they wanted anyway. When are you & others going to learn that fans opinions count for exactly ZERO
I don't doubt I could use the therapy however, I never said it would be used 10 or 12 times a year find the quote. I would have been fine with the WSS if it included the Giants and the City and State weren't paying for it. I would be in favor of the Jets and Giants sharing in Queens under the same circumstances. What I don't like is both of them stealing public money to build two of them whithin 10 miles of each other. It's just poor urban planning, a rip off of the local and State government to line the pockets of two owners who don't need it.
Who says if the new NJ stadium has doubled in price, that the same would have happened to the WSS? Remember, there were several groups putting up money including $900-million from the Jets and $300-million from the NFL. The other thing is, the new stadium is NOT a done deal. If you read the recent report, the NFL has not agreed to pay the $600-million in unsecured funding at this point, and they have issues with the escalating cost of the project. If the NFL pulls it's funding, it is entirely possible that this NJ Stadium deal is dead for now...
The NFL has approved its funding and approved a loan over $1 billion. Give it up already. They are breaking ground in a few weeks. It is a done deal.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=20046 $1.5 billion to both teams combined($750 each). ^ May 1st, so it's a month before they break ground.
