What's your point? Idzik fucking sucks. Get him out the door before he does more damage.

Harbaugh would be a good choice if he's available

    Woody might pay him

But I really think Harbaugh is gong to go to Michigan and become the reincarnation of Bo Schembechler

I've been a part of the patience party with Idzik for most of his tenure but it's starting to look like they're are guys much more qualified for the job. Very nice of Idzik to clean us out of cap hell but I thought the product on the field would be much better at this point.

I don't regret them taking Geno Smith in the 2nd round I just wonder how far he would've really fallen because at this point the guy looks like he should be out of the NFL next year with his poor on the field play coupled with several immature incidents that professionals specifically quarterbacks can't act like. They're held to a different standard whether everyone agrees with that or not.

I've been patient with Idzik. I was behind his vision initially, let's build through the draft - sparingly use the free agency. I'm completely lost now, and I have no idea what Idzik's plan is. He's been awful in regards to the 2 drafts - I don't want to see him do another draft in my opinion. He's been way over his head and even lost confidence in the QB HE drafted himself after 1 1/3 seasons of play. That is unheard of.

I think someone still takes a chance on Geno before the 3rd round, but it really does make you wonder. I do wonder what the Jets saw in Geno Smith.

I seriously doubt Rex will get a job next season; Possibly 2015 2016 season possibly, but he needs to take a year off. As I said if you need a QB to be developed Rex is most definitely not your guy. I'm not sure he can nurture, and turn young promising players into superstars. But if you give him a veteran Quarterback, along the lines of Rex Ryan, and a stacked offense like Atlanta has he'll do fine.

I believe his last two GM hirings tell you all you need to know about Woody Johnson.
He's cheap and bringing a championship to the Jets and its fans is not a priority.
I'm sure he wants to win a Super Bowl, but his mandate is to keep costs down.

I dont know why he would need to take a year off. It doesnt look to me like he's lost his drive to coach. If he looks beaten or anything along those lines well losing 8 in a row will do that to a coach.

But I still dont understand fans saying that he cant develop a QB. He wasnt hired to be that guy. Thats like hiring Chip Kelly and saying he's not putting together a good defensive gameplan. I know that technically a head coaches job is to work both sides of the ball. And yes Rex could've taken a little more interest in the offense from day 1. But I think if he had the right guys, both at OC and QB from day 1 then nobody would be this hard on him for the offense being subpar.

As far as development goes though you know very quickly these days if a QB can succeed or not. In this pass first league where everything is balanced toward the offense , if a QB doesnt show consistency right out of the gate he is very quickly thought of as not being the guy for that team.

What young QB out there has really been developed? Maybe Brees? Once he was put in the luxury of a very good offensive coach/good offensive team.

Its just not common place anymore for a coach to groom a QB and a fanbase stay patient. Especially in NY.

Your last sentence is why I raised the issue of his being an asshole. I don't care whether he is or not, and I don't give a rip about whether he would get along with the NY media. I just doubt if Woody would hire him if Harbaugh is an asshole. That's all I was saying.

You're right that Parcells was a HUGE asshole.

It's his responsibility and his "job" regardless of whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Coaches are married to their quarterbacks and there's a reason quarterbacks play can be up and down depending on their coaching staff. Look at how Rivers career was rejuvenated under Mike McCoy. Rodgers has only played under one head coach since being drafted despite the Brett Favre drams and Mccarthy just got an extension. Drew Brees as you stated with Sean Payton. The only real exception to the rule is Peyton and he's honestly a supernatural blend of talent, football smarts and a hard working mentality.

Quarterback is the most important position in football and very rarely are coaches defensive minded guys anymore outside of Mike Tomlin & Marvin Lewis and even then Lewis is criticized for not accelerating Andy Dalton to the next level. Good defenses help but you really can't do it without a quarterback and Rex shows absolutely no interest in having any relationship with his quarterback on the field. He'd rather run the wild cat all game so the clock keeps moving.

I'd like to see it too. I'd probably be delirious with joy if Woody fired Idzik and Rex and hired Harbaugh. Who knows, with getting his way and being able to do both jobs, his personality may soften a little. It is very difficult to do both jobs well, however. I would hope that it wouldn't have a negative affect on his coaching and that he'd be better than Idzik seems to have been with the draft.

    No.

Rex would have chased Revis. That said, Rex's influence still seemed apparent on the choices of Richardson and Pryor at the expense of offense. Insiders seem to think Rex has had much less personnel influence u dear Idzik

I fear you're right, but if he didn't have to pay both a GM and HC, maybe he wouldn't have a problem paying Harbaugh a larger salary.

Ok so use your same argument for these coaches and their defenses. Isnt Payton responsible for the Saints D too? Well they are terrible a lot of the time. But yet that doesnt reflect poorly on him. Only on Rob Ryan.

When Green Bay's defense struggles McCarthy doesn't get criticized.

No coach is going to be great on both sides of the ball. You just arent going to find that guy. When you hire a coordinator , the best you can hope for that he makes the one side of the ball that he is a specialist on great and have the right people in place to run the other side of it.

If every head coach knew how to run both sides of the game there would be no such thing as coordinators.

Harbaugh is supposed to be a QB coach but his Franchise QB is suspect and they have damn near the next best thing to denver's offense when it comes to weapons... why do the 9ers struggle on offense the way they do? Why does the 9ers play more like a Rex Ryan ran team (when he had a GOOD TEAM). Would Harbaugh really save us? I'm not so sure. That defense continues to carry the 9ers and their D-Coordinator should be getting Harbaugh's credit. A former QB coaching a forced to be run first team because he can't seem to succeed with 4 very well known solid WR's and a potential HOF TE in Vernon just confuses the hell out of me man..

Yes of course the defense falls on those head coaches. But great offenses overcome bad defenses in today's NFL which is why both of the examples you used are of teams that are perennial playoff teams and Superbowl contenders.

Yeah great offenses do overcome bad defenses. And its because of the QB. Not the coach, not the GM, not anything else. And not for nothing look back at those 2 teams Superbowl years. It was the only time that each team had an above average defense to go along with that elite offense.

Jets can fire Rex. But as long as its a rotation of average to below average QB's starting for us it wont matter who we have as our coach.

Since Rex has taken over we've lost more games then I can even remember mainly because of bad QB play.

Coaching can certainly mask poor quarterback play though, and play to a quarterbacks strengths to make him effective.

Look at Andy Reid and basically every quarterback he's ever coached specifically Alex Smith he just rode to the playoffs. Quick decisions, short throws, check downs & get the ball out quick.

Look at Bruce Arians & Carson Palmer; big arm, good deep ball, good thrower outside the numbers so cater to those things.

Harbaugh with Kaepernick; good runner/thrower out of the pocket, so run a lot of play action to go along with the run game.

Good coaches adjust to what their quarterbacks strengths are because not every team is going to be blessed with Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees. But good offensive coaches can make a quarterback play above their abilities by structuring the offense around their skillsets.

Rex structures his offense around how often he can use the wildcat and how many runs right up the gut we're going to attempt that week. He's on his third coordinator and second GM it's safe to say he's accountable at this point.
