None of them had great lines? Each of those teams had/have very good O-lines. Hell, Eli and Peyton didn't even deserve their Super Bowl MVPs, but the "QB is God" rule applied itself.
Yup everyone knows that the Colts beat NE with 38 points behind Clemens or Chad. Eli had the most yards the most TD's the least INT's and the second highest QB rating of any QB in last years playoffs. He also lead incredible clutch drives against Dallas and twice in the 4th Quarter against NE. No playmaker at QB no SB without a HOF D and an absolute stud running game.
OLs can't make a QB great, the QB himself has to be talented, they just don't "get the hang of it"- and no one gets 10 seconds of time behind any line, no RB gets NCAA sized running lanes to run through in the NFL. I agree with the trench worker angle, but to be a zealot of the Lines and brush off the skill positions as if Harrington, Blair Thomas, and Mike Williams can be amazing if they had a top O-Line to "make them great" The skill positions need to be talented as well, and then some.
This is exactly the point. You can surround Chad with the afc pro bowl team and he still won't be able to throw a decent fifteen yard slant or out!
1st pick DL 1st OLB 2nd WR 4TH CB 4TH DT 6TH OT 7TH SCREW RYAN SCREW DMC.......................................................................................
Brother, I am with you. We do not need a QB or RB for this year. We need to upgrade the defense and passing game. They want everyone to think they want DMC or Ryan in case the pass rushers are gone so we can deal.
next year's draft class is disgustingly bad- that's the problem. Get one now because next year could be the worst in a decade.
1. Where do I imply that the Colts or anyone would do that with Clemens or Chad? 2. It's easy to say they can't when one QB has had his shoulder ripped to shreds twice, and the other hasn't even started a full season. 3. OK, Justin Tuck had 5 TKL, 2 sacks, and a FF against the Pats in the Super BOwl, wheres his BJ? 4. The Giants D sacked Brady 5 times and held one of the best offenses of all time to 14 points...wheres their BJ? I guess they shouldn't get any credit because they're not the QB and therefore they really have nothing to do with it? 5. To win a Super Bowl EVERYONE has to play well. Look at the game Manning had in '06 against the Bears...that was MVP worthy? 6. Eli Manning was a bust before those playoffs remember? Maybe our super-untalented, super-unclutch, super-unknown QBs should be given some kind of chance to succeed before we go ahead and label them busts? Or would that require patience that the vast majority of Jets fans seemed to have been born without?
Yea...no. Maybe offensively, but 3-4 teams should be salivating for the next few years... Next years OT class could be sick... You could put Clemens' name in there and it could read the same. You could put ANY talented QB in there and it'd read the same. And Clemens wouldn't require the money and value of the 6th pick...just sayin.
Agreed. Why are we jumping ship on this guy? He'll get the chance to prove if he's any good this year because of our new improved line, but if he fails in doing so, then I say we look for a replacement in next year's draft which should be better for QBs.
Fourthandlong, if what you say here were true, the CS is smoking crack. Since I don't think they like that stuff very much, I think you are dead wrong here.
Quote: "...next year's draft class is disgustingly bad- that's the problem. Get one now because next year could be the worst in a decade...." Whoa, Nellie!!! The Kiddie Leagues haven't even played in 08. Youngsters have a way of showing up quickly in college. I'd be giving them a bit more of a chance myself, before I pronounced the demise of the class of 08's collective lack of a future.
I think that Joe Flacco (if he were taken after the guaranteed money gets down to the single-digit millions) is a worthwhile project.
We need McFadden. The Chargers have LT. The Pats have Moss. The Colts have Wayne and Addai. The Steelers have Parker. Who the hell do we have? Washington? Coles? Come on. We need that dude.
Ryan at No. 6 is too much money for too far into the future. NYJs should pick a QB later on in the draft. Flacco is a much better idea, for example.
I used to be completely against drafting Ryan... but the more I think about it the more I agree with it. And thats exactly why... he really can become a great leader and player.
I would honestly rather see them REACH for a cb or derrick Harvey than take Matt Ryan, i think he will be decent but i still think we did not give Kellen enough of a chance.
