horrible draft or not, we will find out in a few years.Till then our opinios are just premature speculation
Its because the JETS FO did a really poor job in projecting how the draft board was going to play out (I bet you the JETS FO felts really stupid when they saw how late Justice/McNeil lasted) - so we got squeezed-out on addressing key positions - like you noted a stud DE should have been a high priority that usually can only be addressed in Round 1 or early 2 - because that is a Playmaker position - isn't that a suprise people try to pick playmakers in Round 1. By the time we used all these o-lineman with our 1st 2 picks (or find creative was to trade down - to access a DE), it was too late.
I think that before next year's draft, the Jets FO should visit this site since the smartest football minds reside here. We don't need to watch hours of game tapes to analyze a player, we just KNOW..... How about letting the team play a few games before we decide how great or crappy this draft was, shall we?
I agree The Fo should talk to some of our top scouts here or hire Mel Kiper to tell them who to draft. This forum should be the jets war room. I have the names of people here who will make great scouts and help us draft the players we so desperately need to become a force in the league.
How can you even classify this as the worst draft ever a DAY AFTER IT HAPPENED? You gotta give it a few years for it to pan out. A brand new regime, 1st pick ever for these two, and you would of wanted a Tight End? I understand Davis is a dynamic player, but they picked a potential top LT in who can cover our QB's blindside for years... I don't understand you're gripe to Clemens. The staff was high on him, all had good reviews on him, and they got to trade down while adding a 2007 2nd rounder to get their guy...Yes they traded up a few spots to get him, but let him sit a yesr and learn... I agree on the reaches with Smith and Schlegel.
Didn't he play on a D with Hawk and Carpenter? With their speed he didn't need to be fast, he just had to help plug the middle. He might have been the 4 or 5th best player on Ohio States D. Yikes!
Do you know who the captain of my HS basketball team was? It was a guy who always worked hard, had a good attitude, and was friends with everyone on the team.... he also was a terrible basketball player. He was among players who l went on to win a national championship at MD, and another who played 4 good years at Rutgers. Save the Captain $hit. There are plenty of college players who can be decent with 4.9 speed, but not in the NFL.
Schlagel Then he doesnt have to be fast to play with us either. If he did it with Carpenter Hawk and Co and still racked up all those tackles , why can't he do it here, its not like the other linebackers he is playing with here are as slow as he is. We need him to do the same here plug the middle. I dont care if he runs 9.99. Make the tackle.
Why is that your nick always reminds me of the GEICO gecko? lol Also, you missed the part where this was a thread for intelligent discussion. (good points tho!)
Ok time to go to bed.discussing my team with the pro scouts do me no good, whats done is done, the draft is over. Now i can go back to hibernation and read posts while you guys "fight it out amongst yourselves" Goodnight ladies and Gentlemen.Have a great post draft bash.
I don't just know....I watched hours of game tape. You can get it online if you know where to look. It's why I was so high on Mario Williams and Vernon Davis MONTHS AGO. I watched the Senior Bowl, Senior Bowl practice and the combine in INDY. The days of reading a draft magazine or checking Mel's board are in the past. NFL Radio, NFL Network and broadband allow ten times the access potential draftees then you could get 2 years ago.
If college production was the way to judge guys, then Elvis Dumerville would have been no 1 overall-- Last year it would have been Timmy Chang. this guy is fat and slow, and got overhyped due to the guys next to him.
I am not positive, but I think a retarded kid was my HS baseball captain. Supposed to be one of those motivational things.
Clemens is coming off a serious injury (he has not played in a game since breaking the ankle). Game time speed/strain is very different (especially when its J.Taylor/R.Seymour/T.Spike trying to knock your head-off), then a few docs checking you out. He is RELATIVELY unproven even at the collegiate level, especially when compared to the big 3 (and even vs. Whitehurst and Croyle). This translates to a major bust potential. Getting round 2 next year was a good thing, but that does not have anything to do with grading the Clemens pick (ie. Its not because they drafted Clemens they got a Round 2. They could have picked anyone they wanted with the Round 2 pick and still got the round 2 in 07).
Please don't ask me to compare Hawk to Hobson, or Barton coming of an injury to Carpenter. It will just get me depressed.
Game-time speed is obviously different, which is why he'll be brought along to adapt and be handed the team in 2007 best case scenario. Let him learn whatever he can, and by him sitting, meaning his ankle will be even more healed, which i'm pretty sure will be fine by the season. Clemens has leadership skills, smart player, quick release and accurate. And can make plays on his feet when needed, I understand his ankle injury is a concern, but he can come back from that, and he won't play in 06'...That's why it's good the Jets drafted OLine to protect Clemens, and a Center he can get used to hopefully for a very long time...
I didn't read any posts here, but considering this is in the Jets section, I guess this is somebody ripping the 2006 Jets draft. Worst draft ever? Maybe the 1975 Chiefs. Elmore Stephens Cornelius Walker Morris LaGrand Dave Wasick Wayne Hoffman Dale Hegland James Rackley John Snider Gene Moshier Mark Peterson Mike Bulino
