I think the thread starter is taking the bad extreme and you're taking the other. Lookin at this draft and the way it broke, the jets would have had Mangold at 35 anyway. Seeing every top rated linemen except the two the jets picked fall into the mid second round is making alot of jets fans around me very madd.
I think people are misuderstanding my Post. I think our O-line was horrendous last year, more due to injury then starter's bad play (Fabini, Mawae). In fact, it wasn't just our o-line, it was the poor blocking by the non o-line positions as well (TE, RB, FB, WR). Thats why Addai would of been a great pick-up due to his versatility (running, catching, blocking). I hope the JETS pick-up FB Bernstein later in the draft as he is a stud. I 100% agree with all the posts saying we need to add depth to the o-line. All I am saying is that we could have addressed that in round 2 and 3. We could have picked up Justice/McNeil in round 2, who by the way will be better pros then Ferguson (my opinion). In round 1, we should have picked up playmakers. I would have preferred V. Davis at 4 and Addai at 29. Both would have added new dimensions to our offense, especially since Pennington throws short screens/out/slants to RBs. He would love to have an explosive TE that he could dump the ball to. Face it guys, he is NOT a downfield passer, so we need guys like Davis/Addai to make our offense work. I just feel (MY OPINION) like we missed a GREAT OPPORTUNITY in getting playmakers that would have fit the JETS offense to the tee.
I'm not so sure that Mangold would have fallen to us in round 2. The Sainst aquired a Center in the deal with Cleveland as well as the pick but in no way is the center they aquired better than Mangold. New Orleans doesn't make that trade if Mangold is there. We got the 2 best OL in the draft and people are complaining. If our draft was an F- I'd love to see what you guys give Buffalo......
You can't say that....you have absolutely no idea where the teams between 30-34 had Mangold on their board. The point is the Jets had him there on their board and took him. So..to recap so far: WE HAVE THE #1 OT IN THE DRAFT> WE HAVE THE #1 CENTER IN THE DRAFT> WE GOT THE QB WE WANTED WE (after the trade down and trade up) WOUND UP WITH A SECOND ROUND PICK IN 2007 FOR PICK #211 THIS YEAR> THIS IS A BAD DRAFT??????????????????????????????????????????
I love how the draft has gone so far from the earlier post now how need to address the defense. We now need a defensive end, a running back i would like to see calhoun, and a tightend. then i will be purely happy
How can anyone not like this draft? The separation between Brick and the 2nd best OT is light years. Same with Mangold. The 2nd round trade was gutsy and brilliant. We picked up a number 2 pick next year for a 7th rounder. All of you on Quinn's jock will now have another early pick to trade up for him if you want. We have 2 bonafide starters on arguaebly the greatest need for the team - the OL. I love it. Clemens is icing on the cake, Jaws is in love with him.
I never said it was an bad draft, I don't think iit's an great draft like some people are trying to spin it.
GRADE: G- Clemens in the 2nd and Schlegal in the 3rd. What are we just clueless. Clemens would have easily lasted to the 3rd (Croyle/Whitehurst lasted into the late 3rd and are rated much higher), and Schlegal (10th ranked ILB by most draft experts, may not have even been drafted). The JETS FO is showing just how green we are. I am sure Belicheck is chuckling, since he got better players with later picks
I'm pretty sure Min. was going to take Clemens. I am assuming you're talking about Schlegel (Hodge is the LB from Iowa who was taken by GB), and yes, I question the pick as well.
Are you on drugs? Clemens was going to the Vikings, and according to who are Croyle and Whitehurst rated higher than Clemens? You? And Hodge was picked by Green Bay New England got a steal with Jackson huh? Explain to me why he was rated as a 3rd or 4th rounder until he ran that 4.3 forty? Can you say workout warrior. Post when you get a clue as to what you are talking about....
How do you know Clemens was going to Minn? Did you talk to them, I didn't think so. I meant Schlagel - that makes me feel much better. Almost every major NFL Draft scout, as well as ESPN/Sporting News/Street & Smith/Pro Football Weekly (seeing a pattern) has ranked Whitehurst/Croyle in front of Clemens. Keep drinking that Cool Aid - gulp, gulp, gulp.
This draft isn't about filling holes like previous year. It's about building a foundation for the future. I think the Jets have accomplished what they wanted to.
