there is a difference though. Met fans root very hard against the Yankees. They want to see them fail, and lets be honest, thye are tired of the success they wish they had. If a Yankee fan says something about the mets,it might be them harping on a blunder,or a "haha"type thing. But i don't think we sit around and pray that they don't go to the WS because we can't bare to see them win another one. Ofcourse there are yankee fans that are douches to met fans. But they don;t make it an obsessive passion to root for them to lose more than they root for their own team to win.
I really don't think there's a difference. I don't think it holds true that Met fans 'obsess' over bashing the Yanks, while Yank fans bash the Mets in a light-hearted jest. I don't buy some theoretical notion that there are varying and differing degrees of bashing done by both sides; talking shit is talking shit is talking shit. Moreover I think it doesn't make sense to generalize the entire Met fan base as 'praying' that the Yankees lose based on reactions you see from a handful of Met fans. I could have given a rat's ass whether or not the Yanks did well or did bad this offseason; I was more focused on the FO moves the Mets needed to make. And last year I actually wanted the Yanks to win the WS. What now?
Again I want to reiterate my main point being that both sides talk a lot of shit about each other and there seems to be a general distaste and it's not really one fanbase that's the culprit of all this. Still, the most annoying thing to come out of this clusterfuck situation are the parties present on each side saying that the other fans talk more shit than they do, or that they talk shit first, etc etc etc, blah blah blah.
I've seen you take this route on this board in the past. Somebody else has done this, too. I think nyjunc, but am not totally sure. I really can't believe that there exist Mets fans who root against the Yankees more than they root for the Mets. It just doesn't make any sense. Edit- why it makes no sense- I can't use opening day 2011 as an example because the Yankees open on 3/31 and the Mets on 4/1. I'll simply use the first Sunday of the 2011 season. Let's suppose both the Mets and Yankees start 2-0 and both teams play at 1:00 on April 3rd. If the type of fans exists that typeO thinks exist then those Mets fans would not watch the Mets game. They would watch the Yankees game because hating on the Yankees is more important than rooting for the Mets. I used that scenario as an example for a good reason. It doesn't work in some cases. Late in a pathetic season with the Mets sitting at 65-90, I could then understand a Mets fan passing on watching the Mets play and then focusing on rooting against the Yankees. But if both teams are doing good or it's early in the season, then it simply makes no sense for a Mets fan to be more worried about the Yankees and vice versa.
This is true, and i don't. Same as there are some here that judge the entire yankees fanbase for being cocky from all the success.
Yankees fans picking on the Mets is just typical trash talk, but Mets fans rooting against the Yankees is just flat-out pathetic.
I really don't know how to explain it any better so they understand how they come off. It's kind of like Everybody loves raymond. the mets fans being Robert. the yankee fans being Raymond.
It's not that at all. there is just a lot more power behind the met fans hatred of the Yankees than there is vice versa. most yankee fans do not have that hate for the Mets that ,say,Shadetree and Davecrazy have for the Yankees.
Thinking like this directly contributes to the situation you guys are complaining about. How do you expect Met fans to react when there are Yankee fans with biased, supremacist, and asinine views like these? When Yank fans talk shit, it's different, it's okay? Yankee fans are always in the clear? They don't deserve any part of the blame? Hehhhhhh.
No one said anyone is in the clear. You know what? You have 2 or 3 obsessive anti-yankee met fans on here. If they weren't in action it wouldn't look so bad. the trash talk would be even. But there are a couple that are so ridiculously over obsessed with the yankees, that it's sad. What we don;t have,is any yankee fans that match those guys.
You mean on this board or in general? As a Met fan I only rooted for the Yankees once and it really was not for them but for A-Rod as I have always been an A-Rod fan and that was last year. He carried the team and they won the WS but I know that there are many Yankee fans who rub it in when Mets lose. And yes Iata I know this is Rangers and Giants and I hope the Rangers win.
I mean this board. Most of the Mets and yankee fans i know in life don't really battle eachother. A couple of jabs here and there, but not like here.
On this website, I think that the distinction is real. Yankees fans mocking Omar Minaya's general incompetence is pretty much standard trash talk. Mets fans absolutely obsessing over the "Great Yankee Collapse" for 2 years while pretty much ignoring their own team was pathetic.
I don't think I posted much in that thread or paid much attention to it and therefore do not remember it well. I cannot believe that there were Mets fans more concerned with a Yankees collapse than the Mets. If so, then I would say that those people are not Mets fans.
You obviously haven't paid much attention to the Baseball forum unless it had to do with pitchers asses. Mets fans have been rooting AGAINST the Yankees in nearly every big series. Look at the ALDS and ALCS last season, as well as this season. Plenty of Mets fans trolling the thread rooting against them. It's one thing to trash talk, but to openly root AGAINST the team is going way beyond simple jabs. Clearly Mets fans have an inferiority complex and they want the Yankees to lose more than they want their own team to win. And that, my friend, is pathetic.
Giants announced the obvious, that Lincecum will pitch game 1 against Lee. Also that Cain is moved up to game 2, Sanchez pushed back to 3 and Bumgarner to 4. I guess they're banking on Sanchezs' last game being a fluke. Let's hope...
