A certain number of TVs have boxes on them that send data about which channels are being watched when. Those are then used as a representative sample of the general population. The numbers are of course not truly accurate because of the sample size, but it's considered close enough +/- a certain error margin.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/23/sports/baseball/23texas.html ARLINGTON, Tex. — Among baseball players, only Bengie Molina could get this lucky. Traded from San Francisco to Texas on July 1, Molina finds himself in the unusual position of being eligible for a World Series ring with two potential participants. If the Giants, who lead the National League Championship Series, three games to two, finish off the Phillies, and join Texas in the World Series, Molina will earn his second championship ring no matter who wins. He won his first in 2002 with the Angels. Molina declined an interview request before Game 6 on Friday. But Thursday, before Texas worked out at Rangers Ballpark, he told reporters he could not help thinking about it. “I just want to make sure we get it done first before anything else,” Molina said, meaning the Rangers. “For sure it would assure me a World Series ring, and that would be a happy note if I was to retire.”
I was gonna mention that last night but forgot. I can't think of another player who got both a World Series winning and World Series runner up ring in the same Series. Plus he'll get a double share of the playoff prize pool.
Jose Lima was going to get a ring if the Mets went on to win the WS in 2006. Look up his stats for that year if you need a laugh. I suppose you could argue that Lima ate a few innings so that was his contribution to the team.
Basically if you contributed at any point during the title winning season, you're eligible, regardless of where you end up.
I immediately thought about Lonnie Smith. I looked it up. Yeah, he'd be another. He started the '85 season with St. Louis and finished with KC. The funny thing about Molina is that he wanted to sign with the Mets and the Mets wanted to sign him but they botched the deal.
It's definitely a 2 way street bro. There are fans on both sides that find it a requirement to endlessly bash the other team.
Yankees fans don't bash the Mets. Many of us feel sorry for the franchise and actually wish them well, as long as it doesn't affect the Yankees.
Agreed. I personally would like to see the Mets do well, as the summer is way more interesting when both New York clubs are good. Plus, while Willie Randolph was around I always pulled for him. Now the Red Sox on the other hand? Fuck 'em.
I think the yankee fans do it more in defense if anything. Met fans root very hard against the yankees, while yankee fans really don't care about the mets. what exactly do we have to care about? When was the last time a yankee fan went into a met thread after a game they lost and said "great day".
Ahh, if only TGG existed in the 1980s and early 1990s. Mets and Yankees fans are the same type of people from the same region. C'mon now. Who are you trying to fool with that stuff you wrote above?
Don't tell me that this past year anytime the Mets hit a bad or embarrassing bump during the season there wasn't even a single Yankee fan in the thread about it going "haha". Again, it's a 2 way street of bashing, and claims of "well they're the ones really doing it, we don't really care about them" come from both sides as well.
Yeah, exactly. I don't remember what thread it was, but I do remember a Mets series thread this year that contained more Yankees fans than Mets fans. The Mets had done something particularly embarrassing in the series which drew the Yankees fans to the thread like moths to a flame.
