that was 5 off the top of my head, I can give you 50 more examples if I looked it up. The bottom line is Rex has done a tremendous job through 3 seasons, year 3 stunk but that happens once in a while, to throw the best thing to happen to this franchise out would be insane.
+1 Look at Cowher's record on the attached link. The same fans that cried for the Jets to hire him in '09 would have been the same fans calling for him to be fired before he won a Super Bowl. He was 6-10 the year before being 15-1 and then winning the Super Bowl the following year. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/CowhBi0.htm
he also was 1-3 in postseason his first 3 years including losing twice at home and once at home in the title game to maybe the worst SB team of all time- the '94 Chargers.
What we need here on the TGG board is a damn Santero with a couple of white pigeons to cleanse this board, of all the negatism and bad karma that all you fools bring to the organization...
I think the "genius" who said the Jets haven't been relevant for 43 years pretty much sums up the quality of this thread. I guess the idiot has adopted the Joe Benigno-SOJF mantra that winning postseason games and going to two of the last three conference championship games is "not relevant" too bad the Jets are saddled with a virulant minority of these sort of fans within their fanbase
Obviously this is just another piece of shit thread. This board is near unreadable except for the comedy spewing from some over reactive fans. 40 years of misery and we have an owner not afraid to spend money, a GM who's willing to take risks for rewards, and an HC that made this team front page news - good or bad - in the off season - even when ANOTHER NY football team in in the playoffs? You people will never be happy unless Brady is our QB with Peyton Manning as backup, and a pro bowl list of players at every position. Agreed You included. I'll have my mother-in-law do the "mal occhia" when I get home tonight. If it can clear my wife's headache, maybe she can purge this board.
So you are the owner. Who are the "right people" you are bringing in to be your GM, HC, OC, QB, and WR1 and WR2? What's your plan to shake this intense feeling of embarrassment I feel in order to make me proud? Is Step #1 bitching about it on an internet message board? Check.
Read through this whole thread, While there are some valid points about this team from the FO to the coaches and the players.. But I have to say Jets 12 WTF does not winning have to do with someones weight. OMG are you that stupid. OK that being said... This is one bad season,, some bad picks in the off season... We need a good draft and some darn good picks in the FA and we could be right back in this next year with the same head coach. AND if you think he cant get this corrected,, I have a few million dollar contacts that says he CAN. Go Jets
Well, I realize it's hard to believe. Of course I wasn't convinced like I am now - but then again I didn't know how lenient he is. BUT....gods honest truth, I never felt comfortable with his loud mouth and felt he motivated his opponents as much or more than his own team. And, while a lot of guys on this site like to say "every team has games like thta" there are just TOO Many games where the Jets are unprepared, play poorly for long stretches and need bad calls by the opposing coach or lucky plays to assist them in winning. I am HAPPY that we got to two straight championship games, but I am not blinded by the fact that we were very lucky to be there in 2009 and 11-5 last year didn't feel like a true 11-5 to me because we spent 5-6 straight weeks in the middle of the season stumbling all over the place, winning games in lucky fashion - ala Denver this year.
Winningest head coach in history? They were a joke franchise until the last decade. It's been 3 years, and prior to this no one had a friggin' winning record until Parcells. I mean, c'mon - learn about relativity before making a comment like that.
Let's be completely honest here: the Jets are only more relevant in the press and in the consciousness of the general public. In the NFL, we are targeted weekly and laughed at when we lose. Players, other fans - they all take SERIOUS pleasure in whipping our asses. We haven't won a championship, two championship game appearancese and a few bucks (depending where you live) will get your choice of public transportation, and right now, it's a complete clusterfuck over in Florham Park. I personally never said Rex should go because of the performance of the team. Sure, if you look only at record, he's been great and deserves a few years to get his shit together. But this isn't about just the record. After three years, at the end of which the team has imploded and is in shambles, it is obvious he's in well over his head as a head coach. He can't even discipline himself, much less his players. To find out that a huge lockerroom rift was going on since week 4 and he did almost nothing about it is frightening to me. Ludicrous. The complete lack of understanding shown by him and the lack of ability to know how to do anything about his team is why I say he should go. He's not ready to be a head coach (and may never be ready). He's turning into more of a liability than anything else. YOu don't have to agree with me, and the guys on this board calling it a "knee jerk reaction" and pointing to his record and that he made the team "relevant" again can have their opinions about it just like I do.
You keep quoting his record. Ok, I stipulate that he's done a fantastic job when compared to other coaches in NYJ history. Big deal, it's not a very competent history, but ok, let's leave that part alone. He's done very well. Talk to me about his leadership qualities, his lack of discipline, and the fact that team has essentially fallen apart publicly. Talk to me, without insults or pointing to other coaches, about how you think he gets control of this.
@broomluck You can't be serious about this statement considering the Jets are getting more prime-time games than anyone else. That's the NFL's decision. How many prime-time games has Detroit, Bucs, Seahawks, Saints (pre-Brees) have these teams have. We had 5 the last 2 years and we didn't even win the SB - we didn't even lose it. The Jets got kicked from the dance a game before the SB and we have 5 prime time games. The NFL obviously wants someone like Rex, who is uber unique considering the coaching landscape - to get more face time. Its not for being a laughing stock. They are promoting the team for a reason. Its certainly not just cause we have a Mexican QB. The Jets are the most followed team in the NFL for a reason. Eric Allen isn't the one tweeting about the ridiculousness in the locker room.
You just confirmed what I said: they are more relevant in the general public than they are in the NFL. I think many fans will agree that they'd rather be the LEAST followed team and not have commercials and win a couple of championships than to be what we are now. For the record, teams generally get prime time games based on record/playoff appearances - not popularity. You don't see 4-12 teams from the year before having prime time games, no matter who they are. The Jets get the max allowed prime time games the last couple of years because they're a good team, and to a degree, because of popularity of course. Ratings are money and the league tunes in to see them, win or lose. But exactly how does that translate into relevancy in the game itself?
Well said. Too bad the idiotic clowns have taken over this board. What a complete joke. Don't jump back on the bandwagon next year. But they are not only clowns but hypocrites as well so they'll jump back on when we're winning again.
It's about results, 2 of 3 years in the title game- that means more to me than anything else. They had a bad year, it happens. If it becomes 2 or 3 bad years then we discuss moving on but one bad year after the 2 outstanding years we had and we are looking to move on? not a chance.
First thing the Jets should do Trade Jets12 and the rest of the chicken little sky is fallings to some other team for used jock straps
