If Cutler doesn't report on Monday I think the Broncos start to shop him hard. I don't see how we can't make a bid at him, seeing that we have assembled a team that must win now with the free agent signings and the money invested. A 1st and a 3rd should suffice if Cutler starts to become a distraction.
Anyone who's watched Cutler play can see he's got mucho talent . The guys a playmaker...why Denver would dangle him out there is puzzling. He's brash, impulsive, unpolished, hot-headed, and speaks his mind. Don't forget he told Phillip Rivers to fuck off. He'd be perfect for the NY Jets
perhaps he wanted cassel because he is familar with cassel no? perhaps since cutler has been so vocal about how pissed off he is that mcdaniels does not want the distraction in the locker room his first year as head coach? i think it has little to do with cutlers talent but more to do with these two having a pissing contest.
if you want cutler it's going to cost a 1st for sure. i would gladly give a 1st and a second or 3rd next year too get a franchise qb.
You don't trade a franchise QB to bring in somebody you're more familiar with. There was no distraction in the locker room before McDaniels tried to acquire Cassell. Ergo, McDaniels thinks Cassell is better than Cutler and also thinks that Cutler is not a franchise QB. Mike Shanahan made a mistake with Cutler that cost him his job. He was loking for a franchise QB even though the Broncos were doing okay with Jake Plummer who was not a franchise QB. Since he put Cutler on the job the Broncos have looked like just another team. Let me ask you a question: how many true franchise QB's failed to appear in a playoff game in the first three seasons in which they started a game? The answer is none. Unless you say that Jay Cutler is a franchise QB who is the only one ever not to appear in a playoff game in his first three seasons. BTW, the close comparisons to Jay Cutler, the guys who were drafted in the top half of the first round and started very quickly without making the playoffs in the first 3 seasons they started a game are Alex Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Tim Couch, Rick Mirer, David Klingler, Jeff George, Vinny Testaverde, Chris Miller, Chuck Long, Todd Blackledge, Richard Todd, Steve Bartkowski, Jim Plunkett and Archie Manning. That's the entire list of QB's drafted in the top half of the first round since the 1970 merger who started at least a game in each of their first three seasons with the team and did not make the playoffs in any of the seasons. A few things to note: first, there are some good QB's on that list, second, none of them made the Hall of Fame, and finally, only one of them won a Super Bowl in his career - that being Jim Plunkett. Cutler looks a lot better than he really is at this point. Odds are he winds up traded to a second-rate team and spends the rest of his career as a journeyman. Hopefully that team is not us. If he is traded to a very good team and organization then he could go the Plunkett route and actually win the big game at some point.
That's not the first know-nothing sports columnist I've ever read. The facts are that Jay Cutler's teams NEVER win anything important. He looks wonderful out there at QB but his teams always look worse. I actually stopped reading hard when I saw the comment about Cutler going for the juggler, I guess the Denver Post's editors are pretty bad too.
The point is that the Broncos defense has sucked balls. If he had a half decent defense he surely would have made the playoffs by now. Also, notice all the QB's who never won a playoff game in there first 3 years. Granted they played in the playoffs, but not winning a game hardly makes that significant. edit: FTR, I do think Paige is a jackal.
you make it sound like he has been in the league forever. this is a young guy who has never played on a team with even a decent defense. if he still hasn't won anything in 5 years the statement "jay cutler teams NEVER win anything" would become appropriate. other than that yeah the article sucks.
To be fair, the Broncos as a whole have been mediocre. Not all Cutler's fault, he has been playing for what, three years.
Look at the list of QB's in my post above. That's the entire list of QB's drafted in the top half of the fist round (by pick 16) since 1970 who then started at least 1 game in each of their first three years in the league and did not get to the playoffs in any of those years. That's a really tough list to look at and think that Cutler might be the ONE guy in NFL history who turned out to be more than a competent journeyman after that kind of start. That's a huge number of people who were in the position he is in now and things didn't get any better down the road. Basically if you are going to be a great QB the odds are like 99% it is going to happen in the first three years that you get to play in the league. 1% of the great QB's come out of nowhere after a few seasons, but most of them really don't. It does not matter why you didn't become the great QB, you just didn't. If Cutler was going to be a great QB he'd be getting better in clutch time instead of worse. He's now 6-9 down the stretch in the last three seasons while the team was 18-15 before that. That's pretty damning evidence that Cutler comes up small in big situations.
Cutler will demand a salary of around $10-12 mil a yr. And I wouldn't mind that. We'll be saving a few mils off the salary cap since we wouldn't have to pay our first rounder (that would be traded of course) and maybe even a second or third. So we would really be looking at an extra $7-8 mil a yr to get Cutler in. We have that much I think. Our first pick would then be a WR. Not bad...
Sorry, not breaking the bank would mean no trade...Its obvious, he's pretty good so he'll demand a new contract from the new team.
He made the pro bowl last year. He threw for over 4500 yards! They had the pizza guy for a RB. His career QB rating is 87. He very clearly has enormous potential. You'd probably rate Flacco higher because his D is stacked and got his horrendous play deep into the playoffs...
i meant breaking the bank in terms of draft picks. he's worth whatever money he will get when he becomes a free agent or gets traded.
Jeff George. Vinny Testaverde. Jim Plunkett. If you'd given any of them the offensive line that Cutler has had they'd probably have gone deep in the playoffs at some point early in their career. Everybody on that list was missing something when they came into the league and none of them turned into a great QB. None of them were worth a 1st round pick in trade after the one that was spent on them in the draft.
the owner of the Broncos has already said Cutler is not leaving. And he's not going to be traded for JUST a first rounder...no way. I am not giving any a lot of picks for Cutler.
Sure, we'll be giving up a minimum of a first and a second. I would love it to be a first and a third. If I were the GM, I would demand a first and second this yr and another conditional pick as high as a first next yr while giving back the second.
