Defense mechanism much? I'm not sure how you're in a position to take a jab at the Ravens when you support the New York Jets. It's actually a bit more funny seeing as how your GM has literally tried to transplant our team over to New York. Rex Ryan could been deemed a "good" coordinator overall, but he was atrocious when it came to crunch time. If you judged Ryan purely on the first three quarters, his schemes were pretty damn good, but the final few drives were pathetic and frustrating.
So you find it funny you lost scott to us? And more than likely leonhard. Ray may not be back. Ivy may be gone. You lost your center to the rams. No cmac. So total you guys are probably down 4-6 starter but you are worried about the jets? Now that shit is funny.
- Leonhard wouldn't have made the starting squad next year. - Ivy is a liability to any team he joins. - We released McAlister. - Now that Dallas has Brooking and New York has Scott, Ray is coming home, not to mention we have the highest offer on the table. - Scott is easily replaceable as his success was contingent on Lewis/Suggs no matter how you wish to spin it. I assure you one of our young trio takes his place. - Brown was a big loss, I'll concede that one, but we simply couldn't afford him. The Ravens haven't lost much of anything, but they're not any better either.
Project much? Why exactly would you take the time to register at a Jets site anyway? You only joined in Jan so Rex has to be part of your motivation. Truth be told, 3 of your most important defensive players were in contract years, that had to be a factor in doing so well. And now one of those players is gone, one is old as crap and your DC is gone. Now you have to rely on the QBing of Flacco and the coaching genius of Harbough. I think the Jets will do better over the next 5 years than the Ravens. That's my opinion, but I'm not going to register at a Raven board to talk about it cuz I'm just a normal fan, not the kind who registers at other team's boards.
This is a moot argument because neither one of us is going to concede. You clearly know nothing about the Ravens, as is evidence by your last post, and I don't know much about the Jets compared to every single poster here. I joined to give you my take as I've been watching some of these players/coaches for over a decade.
Good defenses never finish last. Depending on our QB situation, the Jets finish second and maybe first in the division. Remember Brady's knee has to hold up.
You have the only offer on the table. Nobody else wants to spend a lot of money on a 34 year old linebacker. The Jets certainly didn't. Dallas didn't. The Giants didn't. Despite all of the talk his phone never rang.
Well we have the only offer because we put up a big offer. With reports of the Ravens putting up nearly $25 million, not many teams are going to top that. I'm not sure why any other team would want Ray at that price tag, though.
Ratliff will be brought in to manage, I agree, but he will have a great year and prove he can do more than manage. Yet, if he should falter, I feet Eric Aigne could be a good game manager. Good bye Kellenand don't let the door hit ya where the lord split ya!
I dont see us finishing last either and agree with your take. Im sill looking for our FO to pickup a TE thats really good at blocking. With our OL remaining intact, it gives our whole offense (running/passing) a good chance to succeed.
Exactly bro...Great post man. I think every Jets fan should be excited that we now have a coach in Rex Ryan who knows how to run a top 3-4 Defensive team. With Mangini, I really feel that BB was the reason why the Patriots defense was great for all of those years and now with Rex Ryan, there is NO QUESTION...That Ryan was the master mind behind the Ravens success on the Defensive side of the ball and thats the reason why players like Suggs, Lewis, Scott and Ed Reed ALL love and respect this man as a coach, he knows how to coach. Now we just went out and signed Bart Scott to play alongside David Harris behind Kris Jenkins? Sounds good to me. We just went out and traded for Litto Sheppard to play with Revis and Rhodes in the secondary with Lowery as our Nickel/Dime back? Sounds exciting to me. I love it. I REALLY have a feeling that the Jets are going offense, offense and more offense during the draft and we already have a solid O put together with the O-Line leading the way with players such as Ferguson @ LT, Mangold @ Center, Faneca @ LG, Moore @ RG and Woody @ RT makes for a SOLID O-Line once again here in 09. We have two really good RB's in Thomas Jones and Leon Washington who will continue to make plays for this Offense. Yeah we lost an aging Favre, but you know what? It's time for a young QB to step in and make plays for the Jets. I think Sanchez would bring an exciting fire to this Jets offense in the same type of way that Ryan did for the Falcons Offense and that Flacco kid from the Ravens REALLY had the Ravens DEFENSE believing in the Ravens OFFENSE and thats always a good thing. All in all, yeah we lost Coles and Favre but we still have a REALLY good O-Line with two RB's that just about any team would love to have. I have not quit on Kellen as a Jets fan, but I would love that kid from USC
How can you say that? You must know that the Ravens defense was great for years before Rex Ryan had any kind of a leadership role.
Sans for his coaching on the Ravens, he did have his father to learn from. You DO know Buddy had some of THE greatest Defenses during his time in the NFL, and most of us who knew of Buddy as the creator of all these Blitz packages that we all have come to love. Toss in the creator of the 3/4 too! As to Rex, yes, he did step into a great situation, but he wouldnt have ever gotten that chance if he didnt learn a thing or two from his father. Is blows to have so many FA's on your team at once, but your Front office should have adressed alot of them before the FA period began. You might have had a real chance to keep Suggs/Ray/Bart. As it stands, Id be more concerned with your D now then ours.
You're talking to the biggest sunshiner at TGG you may want to take that post with a massive grain of salt.
I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, but thanks for the information. Again, the Ravens won a Super Bowl with quite possibly the best defense of all time loooong before Rex was truly with Baltimore. Not to get personal here, but you're in no position to insult the Ravens front office; Ozzie Newsome is easily one of the best in the business. I'll cut you some slack as you know nothing about the Ravens, but do acknowledge that they did address the situation. Bart was replaceable, the Ravens knew he was gone long ago, and they have multiple players able to fill in. There are current guys in Baltimore who fit the same mold of Bart Scott just a few years ago.
We may know "nothing" about the Ravens, but we've read up a little bit on the guy you say sucks in the fourth quarter. http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/coach/1413-rex-ryan I'd say that if he has been able to achieve all those top 10's in (place football league here) on defense with only 3 quarters of good decisions, that's pretty impressive.
I realize that you're inclined to think that I'm bitter, but it's honestly my opinion, along with many of Ravens fans, that Rex simply could not stop drives down the stretch. Rex was more than impressive in the first three and a half quarters as the exotic packages constantly duped offensive lines and freed up our own linebackers. That being said, the games are always close for the Ravens as our offense has been, and to an extent still is, completely inept and cannot put games away even with stellar defensive performances. Like many coordinators, Rex would rely on the "prevent" defense to surrender small gains without giving up a huge play. The problem arises when you face quarterbacks who can effectively run the dump off/screen/slant, a la Ben Roethlisberger, which easily dismantles prevent defenses. When not dropping backs DBs and LBs, Rex would continue to needlessly rush 5-6 guys even though the line had picked them up by that juncture in the game. In all honesty, he probably wasn't worse than other coordinators in the final few minutes, but it was just frustrating to see our defense play lights out for an entire game and then fall apart when it really counted. I can only compare Rex to Mike Nolan and Marvin Lewis who did not have nearly as much trouble.
Didja click the link man? The guy is a winner. Thanks for the insight, but we're not looking to be pissed off at bad calls that haven't happened yet.
