Will Rex's DC deliver Rex-style D for Jets?

Marvin Lewis developed Ray Lewis, Mike McCrary and Peter Boulware. Then he went to Cincinnati and couldn't make a defense work without those players. Mike Nolan developed Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs and Chris McAlister. Then he went to San Francisco and couldn't make a defense work without the players that he and Marvin Lewis developed.

Rex Ryan has actually developed fewer people of star caliber at this point than either of the above. He did do a very good job coaching the players that blossomed under Lewis and Nolan, however he isn't likely to come in and do all that much with the Jet's D because we don't have players remotely as talented as the Ravens D.

I think we have alot more talent on defense than meets the eye. Looking at the passive, overcomplicated system that was forced on them, I think they will blossom under a new HC.

The Bengals and the 49ers didnt have as much talent, and position coaches develope players skills, coordinators apply their strenghths to the scheme. Wrong again.....

And that's the crux of it: maybe, unlike the unsuccessful Lewis and Nolan, Ryan will have a better eye for talent so he can compose his "wish list" and recommendations for Tannenbaum, Bradway, and the scouts.

Tony Siragusa was interviewed and asked what he thought Rex would do on the offensive side of the ball: his response was "he likes to use a simple base offense and branches off plays from that" so it could be in his favor to use BS due to the fact that BS is pretty conservative with his offensive scheme.

But Mini Schott's offense is anything but simple. It is complex, with multiple pre-snap shifts and motions. It is a smoke and mirrors, let's try to fool you type of offense, not a simple "let's line up and kick your ass" kind of scheme.

It depends, it may take a little longer if they have to draw up all of the plays on the chalkboard rather than using a power point. But I know you think it's best that nobody gets snowed by a power point, so it may be worth it.

I'm not sure if this was already posted elsewhere, but I thought I'd post this here. Here are some thoughts from Ryan's ex-defensive players and coaches. How he coached this defense and most importantly how he was perceived.

More to the point is how well can David Harris and Kerry Rhodes imitate Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

I'm hoping the Ryan hire means we'll go defense first in the draft and improve our talent level. We've got some solid players on the team already (Revis, Rhodes, Harris, Pace, Jenkins). All it takes is another first rounder, maybe add 1 FA and motivate Gholston to do something. Then all of the sudden the Jets would be the team with lots of great athletes on D.
