I understand that. I don't think anyone was thrilled with the pick at the time but as of now do you think having a JSN or addison or flowers would really be making an impact here? the whole offense is kinda fucked

Well I think it would’ve had a greater impact than a defensive end that’s inactive every other week because we have plenty of good ends.

for this year i agree. but with huff an impending FA, lawson gone, and cap issues right now the only DEs we have on the roster for 2024 are JJ, FJM, and clemens. Seems more like he was a pick for insurance in 2024.

I mean yeah, that's the point. Several of the WRs available at our pick have already contributed significantly to their teams. We screwed up by not drafting any of them.

What exactly are you arguing here? That JD didn't make a mistake drafting McDonald? That it's too early to tell?

It's not too early to tell. McDonald barely sees the field because we have so much depth at edge. All of this was known at the time the pick was made. Our thin WR group was also known at the time. Several people here posted about it.

And again, this was a win now year before Rodgers went down, so there's no argument that it doesn't matter that this has essentially been a redshirt year for McDonald and he may become awesome down the line. You don't waste a first round pick on a guy you don't expect to contribute immediately during a win now year.

And we have GW and bunch of nobodies at receiver next year. So I would’ve been fine with JJ, JFM and Clemons next year with another good young receiver.

not really arguing anything. like I said nobody was happy with the pick at the time but we'll see in the next couple of years if it was right or wrong.

Yeah your probably right there. Addison would have been nice. really like the kid. Seems like JD is dead set on making a push for adams or evans in the offseason though

I feel like the discussion has been done to death. If oline was valued at the pick, it would have been the pick, but it wasn't. No draft pick could have saved the amount of injuries the line had, regardless, nor the deficiencies of Zach Wilson. Carter Warren is prob starting tackle now, a 2023 draft pick. Gotta give Douglas props for drafting Warren, or the line would be dead to rights.

Listen if you want to blame the staff for not thinking JJ would improve as much as he has and/or Huff becoming the pass rushing specialist they were thinking of when taking McDonald, I’ll absolutely agree with you. They should have been more aware of their in house talent.

The WR room had less depth and could have used one of those stud WR’s to compliment Garrett, even though they also had Corey Davis, a decent option, on the roster. Def agree the sum of the WR parts was a bit lower then those at EDGE…though they lacked a dynamic guy off the EDGE at that time.

Isn’t McDonald like 25 years old already? I think he s going to be an effective DE and don’t question the talent imo he didn’t fit the needs the Jets at the time.

shall be all offense draft picks this year.

It was a luxury pick. But I trust Saleh when it comes to defensive prospects. I am sure he will be much better next year. This is a lost season so I don’t harp on why we didn’t pick up a WR anymore.

That was what I thought last year. How much would people shit if we drafted a corner on day 1 in 2024?

devils advocate here too. lets say JD drafted jones and jones comes in and gets hurt. we'd hear how JD is an isiot for taking another injury prone lineman.
you can't win with some fans. they will never be happy and look for any reason or excuse to express their anger

Yep, I'm one of those people who think Douglas' mind is in the right place. It's not like previous few regimes that refused to invest in the oline. He's made some good moves, but has had terrible luck with injuries to that particular unit. I think the line has potential to be above average in the version with AVT at RT. They should still add another guard and tackle in this off season, however.

There is that bend that Joe Douglas was talking about. WMD is going to be elite.

I do think he addresses the o-line in the offseason 1 way or another. warrena nd mitchell are the only OTs on the roster. I don't think we need an OG outside of depth. It's likely tomlinson, tippman, AVT as the starting interior which looks good to me. OT and WR are likely the top 2 targets for JD

    Agree 100%

Gotta be the focus…I don’t care how you do it (FA vs. draft), but we need 2 starting OT’s…Becton can walk as far as I care…the only way I’d keep him is on a cheap deal because yet again, dude is hurt. And I get the argument that they were freak injuries where other players rolled up on him, but I honestly don’t care…he’s in his 4th year and has missed twice as many games as he’s played. That doesn’t help the team. Move on.

Mitchell and Warren are likely more depth players than anything else, but we NEED two starting caliber OTs

Becton is not walking, he is plenty serviceable.

WE HAVE NO QB. How hard is it to understand this? Morgan Moses, George Fant etc. are all NFL starters who we clowned over here. Get with it. OL doesn't get hurt if a QB is decisive (unlike Zach) and gives them unnecessary movements on their bodies, which caused the injury

he's only missed 2 games this year though. Spotrac has his value at 3 years for 39 mil
