I saw Bryce Huff on special teams last night. McDonald looks visibly upset to be here too. IG comments are off. What a crazy puck by Douglas. Btw, his star LT leads the league in holding and false starts. horrid gm
Yeah but didn't you see him come close to recovering a fumble once? That's a very high rate! One almost fumble recovery every 10 snaps!
According to PFF he's in the 98th percentile for almost fumble recoveries among edge defenders! #secretsuperstar /s Obviously, JD should have gone with a WR there and had he done so, there'd be no gaping hole at the position while Edge would still be a strong point. Imagine JSN, Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison opposite Garrett Wilson... I still think McDonald will end up being a good player though, but brutal he passed on so many good receivers. They might have been blindsided by Corey Davis retirement and Hackett's refusal to integrate Mecole Hardman in the offense, but still
Meanwhile Broderick Jones is actually playing at OT better than anyone the Jets have played at OT with the exception of AVT. Yeah, the Jets got handled on that pick swap and the trade-up.
That still doesn't mean it was the right pick to make? Picking the appropriate players is as much about drafting for NEED as it is taking the best available player. We NEEDED another OL and EVERYONE, including JD, knew it. We did NOT need a DE, and EVERYONE, including JD, knew it. Really what I think happened here, and this is strictly my GUESS, is that JD had trade down opportunities, he just didn't get what he thought was necessary to make the trade. So instead he took Will MacDonald who was the BAP after like Gibbs and Jones. And make no mistake, IF there were ever a redo of last year's draft and Gibbs, Jones, and MacDonald are all available at 16? JD takes Jones all day long. That's a FACT.
So does that make it OK for him to ruin any chance at winning in 2023? To ruin their championship window in 2023 which everyone can place squarely on his shoulders?
Macdonald will be a good player for us. Better by far than the absolute waste of money we poured on Lawson. Beating the old horse to death about “we should have gotten an OL” is ancient history and should be an indictment on JD not on MacDonald. We have been missing badly on the OL for the last three years. The question really should be, “ What the hell are we doing different this year?”
Anyone else see this? https://x.com/snyjets/status/1742651848408895562?s=20 Reporter asks JJ about McDonald making a leap next year, JJ responds ""I think if Will just makes sure his heart and mind is on the right things this offseason, he'll be just fine." Some might say there's nothing to make of this, but that sure is an oddly specific way of answering the question. Reading between the lines has usually turned out to be prescient with this team.
Saw stat the other day - Will McDonald has played the fewest snaps of any Jets 1st round rookie since...Vernon Gholston!!!!
But he's going to be an absolutely phenomenal player, according to our absolutely brilliant head coach. With the season lost, shouldn't he have been playing a lot to get valuable experience?
