The Rivers situation was very different because up to that point Brees looked like a bust. In fact, if Rivers had not held out, Brees may not have gotten his shot. It seems like every year there is a "best since" prospect. There is no guarantee that Brohm will be better than Clemens or even a good NFL prospect. Leaf was "the best QB prospect since Elway" and many had him rated higher than Peyton. Everything we have seen of Clemens points towards him being a viable franchise QB prospect. Just way too early to give up on Kellen for another prospect. We need size and speed on the Jets mosty on the lines and at OLB. That in my view should be our focus in the draft.
First of all, I don't think Pat White will ever ever be a good NFL quarterback. Secondly, Kellen Clemens is the real deal. I happened to meet Ron Jaworski at a golf tournament in South Jersey, and I told him what a huge Jet Fan I was. I asked him about the Jets draft this year and Darrelle Revis, and he told me that he had Revis ahead of Leon Hall. He then went out of his way to say that he loved what the Jets did in the draft last year. He said that Brick and Mangold were solid picks, but Clemens is the QB of the Future. He raved about Clemens, and said what a great pick he was.
Yeah Jaworski and a couple of other guys REALLY like KC...ALOT It is very exciting and I am looking forward to the possibility of a Jets QB being able to CARRY them to victory... I hope Kellen proves to be worthy of such praise.
this is why he needed to play 3 weeks ago. facing a top pick, the Jets need to know for certain whether what hey have at QB is the future of the team or whether the position needs to be addressed. a half a season can be a good indicator, but it is cutting it close.
nahh..i dont think they would have passed on leinert or cutler if they didnt think clemens was the right one...besides they need to draft a DE or NT
Another good point, plenty of other spots to spend a top pick on. Hopefully Clemens will come through and this won't even matter.
No. It takes at least two years to find out about a New QB at this level, unless he's really atrocious, which given the limited body of work we've seen from Clemens, he isnt. Clemens was drafted partly because he has all the same positives Chad has, but with a better arm. The QBs that are more likely that have big arms, but questionable decision making skills. There is almost 0% chance that Clemens could paly himself out of the Job.
If we get the lines right and if Clemens is just as good as Chad was in 2002, it is enough. There fastest way to set back a rebuilding team is too draft a prospect QB that busts. Control the LOS and you win a lot more often then you lose. Everybody says Peyton was a can't miss, but during the draft there was more than a few who picked leaf over manning.
Correct, Analysts still say Eli is still coming into his own, and what is this year 3 or 4 for him? Takes a lot longer than a few games to figure out if a QB is going to be good. Problem is will the "fans" stand another 4-12, 6-10, season next year even with KC at QB? Jet fans seem to want that quick fix, with the way things are going, Mangini will be run out of town by next year, and the stupid cycle will start yet again with some other coach.
Great minds think alike... http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=25825&highlight=brian+brohm
The only skill player I would consider in the top 5(If Clemens somehow doesnt work out) is Darren mcFadden. We need help up front on both lines as well as we desperately need a pass rusher. McFadden I make an exception on b/c he's a franchise changing type player. Arguably the best RB prospect since Tomlinson.
That is asking way too much. Pennington was AMAZING in 2002. His 14 game performance made him $64 million. I would say if Clemens leads the team to 4 more wins and doesn't look lost he will keep the job and the Jets will not draft a high ranked QB in the 2008 draft.
