He damn well better after investing the whole 1st rd on the line they need to see a return on their investment asap. Curtis running for 1000 or more should justify going O-line in the 1st. Ok, had to get that outta my system...Now do I think he will run for more than 1000? Yes. Is it realistically going to happen? probably not, with a new regime here nothing is a given. A rb comittee seems likely and will probably be the main reason why c-mart will not get his 1000 yds.
It really depends on if he's in form or not: if he is the best running back in the group than he'll get the carries and probably get past the 4 figure mark. Reputation will mean jack all to the new regime: I doubt very much if they care if Martin gets past the 1000 mark. If he does it will be incidental to what the coaching staff are attempting to achieve. Unlike the previous head coach, I don't think personal marks are the aim of Mangini and his coaching staff, to be honest. In other words, the ball is in Martin's hands, noone elses.
Depends on his carries. If he starts 16 games, and gets 20 carries per game, he'll get it easily. If he doesn't, he won't get it. Simple as that. If he gets the carries he's gotten throughout his career, he'll definitely get it. If he doesn't start, he won't get it. 1000 carries is nothing in today's NFL.
I don't know if I'm crazy or not, but you guys keep talking about the Oline (which holds weight) when if I'm an playing the jets, who is making me not put atleast 8 in the box????? Ramsey??? Mccarins????? Five guys can't block 8 defenders no matter how good you think they are. I say no.
What does him staying around for 2 more years have anything to do with if he reaches 1000 yards this year?
Last time I counted there are 6 men on the line of scrimage and you also have a FB which gives you 7. You can also go with a 2 TE set which gives you 7 men on the line. You're also assuming no one on D will over pursue be picked in the wash, get up field to quick, get juked and miss a tackle, etc. Good running football teams beat 8 men in the box all day long. The problem with really good running teams is they usually are not great in straight pass protect. That's why a somewhat mobile QB or a QB with a quick release is a huge plus.
First of all, it would really be 7 blocking 8 (5 OL men, FB, and TE) unless we bring in a 2nd tight end. Second of all, what about our running game would make a team put 8 in the box? Our passing game hasn't done anything, true, but our running game has a lot to prove to. Defenses could just play straight defenses and let both sides beat them, and a good defense will kill us. You don't need to gimmick by putting 8 in the box.
I'm not a huge Ramsey fan but you can't deny his arm strength. Defenses will have to respect that, and if they don't Ramsey will eat them up.
Easily...he had 735 yards last year with the worst OL ever, plus he only he played 12 games. Both Martin and the OL will be 100% better this year easily!!!
Martin got 220 carries last year. Out of the top 30 backs in rushing yardage last year Martin ranked dead last in YPC and only 20th in total carries. If Martin gets more than 220 carries this year it's because Houston, Blaylock and Washington can't cut it as NFL backs.
He was dead last in YPC because of the OL....You could've put any NFL running back behind our OL & they would've had the same results!!!It wasn't all his fault, plus he played injured the whole year!:martin:
If Martin gets 200 carries he will have to average 5.0 YPC to get 1,000 yards. Martin has never averaged 5.0 YPC in his carrier. He is 33 coming off of knee surgery why would he get the majority of the carries next year? No matter what you think of him he clearly is slowing down and should be a part time back at best. Martin?s carrier average is exactly 4.0 YPC which means he will need 250 carries to break 1,000 yards. All I'm suggesting is Martin is past his prime, coming off injury and should not be getting the bulk of the carries. If Martin has a good year and gets half the carries he should average about 180 carries for the year. Even if he averages 4.5 YPC which would be a sensational year for Martin since his best year was 4.6 YPC that would still only translate to a 900 yard season if he got 200 Carries. I highly doubt Mangini is going to use Martin the way Herm did, I could be wrong but I certainly hope not.
No way does Curtis get 1000 yards this year. He's gonna have a better OL, but I just don't think his legs are strong enough anymore and as stated above, he is coming off surgery. He's going to come out looking strong this year, however. I say he gets at least 700 yds.
I'm assuming that every team that plays the jets will not care about McCarins and an play a safty in the middle of the feild if they are worried about their number DB on coles. And when teams bring 8 and 9 defenders(in running situations) in the box they usually win. Every team in the league is going to dare us to throw 20 plus times a game, because the moe the quarterbacks we have throw, the more likely the are to turn the ball over. And ya'll know the curtis ain't testing the edges, so it will our OLine trying to block 8 stacked defenders in the box. Noway he gets 1000.
Absolutly nothing. I guess what I'm saying is he wont get it this year with the new line is all. So I guess the proper answer to this years question is no.
