Wow. You actually think any team would give up a 2nd rounder for Bollinger? You actually think the Raiders could trade Porter? They'd have to take a huge salary cap hit. Not to mention that the 2 players you want (TO and Porter) are probably the worst 2 players in the NFL you would want to bring into a team that is young and rebuilding? Wow. Just wow.
WOW? Let me hear your plan to put the ball in the ENDZONE! WOW Martin hurting,JMac out of shape,Coles hurting.
chad pennington will magicly fly over the defence and score many times and will bring to the jets to a super bowl, all while juggling 15 fish, cooking with martha, and signing autographs for sick kids in the hospital. :breakdance:
V I completely disagree with every one of your posts in this thread. First, TO? On this young rebuilding team? He took down a SB contender with a top notch QB. How you can think that he will be patient enough to endure one game with the Jets is beyond me. After last year, I wouldn't take TO on my team if I was one player away from the SB and that player was a WR. The Jets have a long way to go. TO is clearly the most egotistical, despicable player in professional sports right now. He has been a team, QB, and coach killer everywhere he has been. Just wait until Dallas emphasizes the running game or Bledsoe has one of his 4 interception, 6 sack games and TO will be mouthing off and sinking that ship, Parcells or no Parcells. Second, as for drafting a playmaker - the Jets OL was horrible last year. It needed a major overhaul. You could have Owens, Moss, and Gonzalez on your team but if the QB has no time to throw or no running game, the ball will not get to them anyway. Winning teams win in the trenches and the Jets are building the RIGHT way. Third, the Jet receivers are fine. You can't judge them by last year with the QB, OL, and running game problems the Jets had. Coles is still a top tier receiver. McCareins had a much better year than Moss in 04, but people forget that. Cotchery will get a chance to show what he has and I think he will have a break out year. Most receivers break out in their third year in the league. Lastly, this #1 receiver thing is a bunch of crap. Who are the best receivers in the NFL - Owens, Moss, Harrison, Smith ??? How many rings do they have??? 0 that's how many. Look at the last few SB winners - Ravens, Patriots, Bucs, Steelers - and show me their superstar blow me away playmakers. Maybe Hines Ward fits that category. Otherwise those teams won with defense and strong OLs. The passing game was way down the priority list for all those teams. So relax.
I really don't get your logic here. You admitted that the Jets a rebuilding team, and you wanted to bring a guy like TO in? You complain that Dwight is old and Coles is "injured", yet you wouldn't mind paying BIG BUCKS for a guy that is even OLDER than Dwight and hasn't played a complete season since 2001? Way to go! Not only that, TO doesn't fit in with Mangini's criteria for team players nor will he be healthy for an already unstable group of QBs. Bringing him in would've only hurt the rebuilding process...not help. And all for what? So you can pose in the mirror with a TO jersey on? Please.
This season is a rebuilding season. Owens would have done this team no good. In fact, it would have done it harm, just like he'll do in Dallas. Signing him to a huge contract would have been a stupid move. This offense needed a complete rebuild, and you start that process with the OL. THey are doing it the right way.
Bringing T.O in would be like bringing syphylis to a bunch of hot girls who are fresh out of high school...with potential like that...why taint it?
Our problem is that Boobway tied up SO much money in marginal talents (JMac, Barrett, Pennington, Chrebet, etc.) that it is unrealistic to bench those players. Can you imagine Pennington, Martin, JMAC, and Barrett being backups with we're paying them?
Very well said. Over the past five years teams like the Pats, Steelers, Seahawks, and to a lesseer extent the Ravens have shown that the NFL is much more oriented to a game by game philosophy...Different fronts, different sets, show no tendacies. The days of 2nd and 10 draw plays are like the dinosaurs (thank God...sorry Hackett). All the teams I've mentioned allow themselves to adapt or to say it better they allow themselves to be coached. Let the coaches coach...let them put you in situations that will allow you to win
Dude I understand the necessity for a #1 receiver but with our Offensive Line, how were our QB's gonna get the ball to them if they are always prone? And how were we gonna squeeze KJ or TO on our roster with our Cap figure being what it was and THEN Sign a pick like Vernon Davis? This team is in REBUILDING and DEPROGRAMMING mode, we could have gotten Bush, Leinhart, Hawk or Davis and we STILL are going to win no more than 8 games this year, there are too many holes on this team. Why not start building in the trenches, where games are won and lost. Just my 2 cents!
You mentioned Vernon Davis in your first post on this thread....if we had of taken Davis that meant we would have missed out on D'Brick. Tight End is a luxury position, and Left Tackle is a vital position, especially for the Jets whose O line was in such shoddy condition pre draft. We can't fix all our problems with the one draft. Vernon Davis or a top line reciever would have been fantastic, but we have much more pressing needs than getting players who play in positions that are only used intermittently on offense. Our two first round picks were a centre and a left tackle, and they are used on almost every offensive play: a tight end and a reciever are not. The Jets have done the right thing: building from the inside out: next season we can pick up some good offensive field players in the draft like a reciever, running back or TE. This season it was just impossible as we have too many holes to fill, and picking up someone like Terrell Owens is clearly not in the philosophy that Mangini is trying to bring to the Jets.
you might just be the dumbest person when it comes to knowledge in football. In a rebuilding year you dont go out and get a player that is going to take up cap space like t.o. . the only reason u would give a player a big contract was if u were planning to keep him for more than 2 yrs. When you say a team needs a true number one receiver can u tell me who the true number one receiver on seattle was. umm i dont think they had a true #1 at th start of the season you could say darrell jackson but he got injured they got to the superbowl with bobby engram who is about 30 possibly 31 joe jurevicious who is almost as old and a rookie whose name loses my mind. and jerramy stevens. can u see a true number one reciever comparable to t.o. jerry porter keyshawn johnson cuz i sure as hell dont. I agree the jets need to pick up a playmaker on offense. But a playmaker that will help them in the future when they are a good team. what is the point of picing up T.O. or Keyshawn when we arent goin anywhere near the playoffs this year. i dk if u know but t.o. is 33 i think and how old is Kj i dont even want to know. There is no need to pick either of those players up. If u want a playmaker we could have picked chad jackson instead of kellen clemons but where would we have been now wiht a qb for a future. The jets drafted leon washingtonwho is a speedy back who can be a playmaker. similar to tatum bell. We used our first 2 picks on people who will be around our organization and guaranteing to help out the team for many years to come. it was a very bright decision one of the best our organization has made in many years. it might not be as flashy as vernon davis but both lineman will protect our qbs for atleast 8 yrs. i really hope before you go criticizing the nyj organization you think about what your saying and understand the situatin that the team is in. I gotta question for you the arizona cardinals, they have been a crappy team well forever now the past couple of years they are trying to start over do u see them picking up a loudmouth "playmaker". no they are rebuilding through the draft. Now last season they played much better many years past and now that they had this huge improvement on offense and defense. They bring in a playmaker that will help the team to bring them to the next level (edge) we arent up to that stage in rebuilding maybe next year possibly 2 years from now. but as of right now we dont need a t.o. kj. Im out peace
Lol take it easy on the kid. After he said we could trade bollinger for a 2nd rounder you all should have been taking everything he types light heartedly.
Whatever you 2 football geniuses say..................................................... Last year the Jets had 7 recieving touchdowns. T.O had 9 in fewer games.REBUILDING yes NONE scoring NO. It wont matter who the QB is come opening day if he has NO recievers to throw the ball to. Coles has not lived up to his career year here a few years back, trading Moss for him was DUMB.Cotchery is unproven,JMac who knows? Dwight not Chrebet. So yes WE NEED A #1 RECIEVER. My opinions are nothing more than MY OPINIONS you calling me the dumbest poster here only shows an insecure crybaby who only feels his opinion is the only one that counts.Furthermore learn how to type halfway decent then talk to me.
Bollinger was a starter last year in the NFL.A team who needs a backup because of injury would be willing to do just that.We gave up a #1 for Jolley, stranger things have happened. Go figure.
