Next year. The CBA is worked out Jets put together a 14-2 record, win the AFC East. We beat the Patriots at our place, then finish business against the Steelers before crushing the Giants in the Superbowl. Jets own New York City everyone walks around in green for a month and mirth, rapture and joy abound for Jets fans everywhere. Sigh, that was fun.
Very simple..the Jets forgot how to tackle in the first half. The Steelers had more yards after first contact than before. How many times were they stopped behind the line of scrimmage only to see a back break containment and avoid an arm tackle? Makes you sick knowing they lose because of bad basic fundamentals that I thought this team had fixed under Rex.
In general, I agree. I was also disappointed with special teams, although Folk did barely make that kick. But the lack of tackling allowed Pitt to race out to that big lead. Sanchez fumbling it led to what ended up being the winning score, though. And the D tightened up, but it was too late.
Specifically, the Jets continuously let Mendenhaul (sp?) get many extra yards. That, to me set the tone for the game.
This made me sick watching yesterday. Seems like every play I started to cheer a big running stop at or behind the line of scrimmage only to see him get out the mess of bodies and run for 10 yards
I don't think it's uncommon for teams to score on the 1st opening drive while a defense gets settled. But the Jets still couldn't solve the Steelers running game until the 2nd half and that was way too long The Patriots were moving the ball early on as well but couldn't finish it AND then the Jets D stiffened. That and the Steelers defense made Sanchez miserable in the 1st half. The Jets came out strong in the 2nd half and the Steeler offense slowed as a result but it wasn't enough. The goal line stop was huge. I think everyone here would ran the ball at LEAST 3 of the 4 downs.
Pats fan here. Dramatic game, Jets came up a bit short but dominated the 2nd half. You can blame the poor run D in the 1st half, but I don't agree that was the difference. That occurred early enough in the game to recover from. Just like the Jets-Pats game the week before, these games boil down to who makes the tough catch, who doesn't fumble, etc. The Jets had the opportunities, and had it been 17-0 at halftime, could have won the game imo. But the killer fumble at the end of the 1st half, the inability to score that TD from the 1 late in the game - those are the plays that have to be made to beat a good team, especially on the road. Sanchez is a terrific young QB. And as much as I hate the Steelers, BR's mobility is killer, you have to hand it to him.
WTF?! Mendenhall looked like Jim Brown on steroids. Jet D tackled so poorly in first half. On a lot of the Steeler runs, there were Jet defenders in position to make a play. Also, was there a spy on Rothlesberger on 3rd downs? Too many chances for Ben to run for firstdowns on passing downs. Also, Jets red zone D ... needed to make a stand w/ the Jets O struggling so bad.
Your right about our Qb not being Sb quality but it was not his fault that we lost yesterday. We had our perfect storm and did not get it done.
I agree, we just did not tackle in the first half and let their runners dominate us! I just cannot figure out how they were not psyched enough to stop him in the first half. They did it in the second half so it's not like they could not do it.
Blaming Sanchez for this loss is about as stupid as blaming fans for starting inspirational threads for the loss. Did Sanchez commit the illegal contact penalty on the 1st drive that gave Pittsburgh a 1st down when they would have gone 3 and out? Was it Sanchez that got called for a very questionable personal foul penalty that also gave the Steelers a 1st down? Did Sanchez allow Rapelisberger to run for 12 yards on 3rd and 12 to yet again give up a 1st down on 3rd and long? Did Sanchez drop that pass on 3rd and 7 that would likely have resulted in a 1st down to keep a drive alive? Was it Sanchez that couldn't get his feet down inbounds on yet another big 3rd down play? It had to be Sanchez that missed his own block on the fumble*
Marino is a fucking douche. We couldn't tackle and it was ridiculous but that dick with his "they call it tackle football" remarks really made me want to commit mass murder.
Good points. Terrible run defense in 1st half is something I think this whole forum can agree on. Play calling on Steeler's goal line stand was very frustrating as a Jets fan. Especially when you consider which RB was chosen to run though the Steeler's D right up the middle.
My thoughts exactly! These were the keys to the game, that we gave away... EDIT: That being said, if this ain't an arm moving forward...c'mon!?! ttp://i.picasion.com/pic38/78307a15dd5a5b7a75ea4db01ee03fc6.gif
