No way dude, all we need is average talent so long as we have a great O-line! If they can get us 4 yards a play we're good!
The existing RB staff is terrific -- if we have an OL that dominates AND has depth. To grab and KEEP respect on that line of scrimmage is the HUGE step forward that the NYJs are attempting to make once and for all. it's not about being a "flash in the pan" -- we need hungry, aggressive backups behind EVERY position on that OL, that are pushing the hell out of the starters to learn more and get better ALL THE TIME. The DL and LBs must also undergo a profound transformation to achieve and keep the respect of the running games they will continually smash down and discourage. This is an extremely important COMPANION DEVELOPMENT to that of a dominating OL for the NYJ. Stopping the opponent's running game at the line of scrimmage is a serious priority we must achieve. Running at will on other people; stopping the running games of other people at the line of scrimmage. These priorities should be what the NYJs are all about -- successful starters and depth. Everything else is secondary for a NYJ that have a tradition at winning once in a while on the LOS and losing most of the time at the LOS. This losing tradition and only winning by exception has to be turned around for keeps. Otherwise, the seasons will continue to frustrate and anger all the people who are paying for them with their wallets and their butts in the seats. Talking about new expensive running backs is a waste of time until the line of scrimmage is owned by the NYJs on both sides, once and for all the time.
i guess when t jones avg's 69 yards a game and score 2 td's we can continue to blame the ol, i mean he's not curtis martin and all.
Let's wait and see what TJ does when he has an OL in front of him, for a change.... I mean, anybody who gets 1,119 yards behind a sieve deserves a mulligan, don't you think...? You guys must have a blind spot for the line of scrimmage -- where do you think all those monsters come down with blood in their eye on top of our skill players from? I know that Big Uglies are hard on the eyes, but they are there to DO something...
Although I do agree with 1500 yards is the mark to be a top tier running back in the NFL, not one rusher last year got that at all! And only one rusher got over 1400 yards. So looking at the year, him rushing for 1100 yards quietly behind a piss poor line is something to take notice of. He is a tough runner that runs between the tackles and is not afraid to either take a hit or deliver one any chance he can get, not to mention he has decent blocking skills so I think people need really understand that he is going to be here and will make an impact this year.
Word. When the 30th Ranked O-Line gives one RB 1119 yards, that is actually impressive. Considering that 1300 yards is the mark of top tier RB, he came pretty close. I believe we could have a top 10 Line, giving Jones gaping holes to run through- with Richardson hitting that safety to get Jones past the 2nd level. Jones can reach 1250 yards next year with the O-Line the Jets have bought. He can also score 7+ TDs with the new line as well. Jones is an all round back, not only being a good runner but blocking well too. He can recognize blitzing to give the QB more time. Remember how the board was creaming over him last summer? and now since he didn't deliver the SB alone he has to go? typical fans.... TJ is still the beast we thought he was- he needs a Line to run behind, just like the other 31 teams that employ a running game. DMC does add another dimension, but do not think we dont have anyone in the backfield like 06, thats foolish thinking.
