One thing that would make me laugh is if Sanchez does break out puts up stellar numbers than the media comes and kisses his feet starts praises him. So much crow eating Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
They'd back peddle hard, for sure. Just like all of the guys who said that the Jets needed to bring in a backup QB to challenge Sanchez...the Jets do...and now all of those same guys are saying it was a horrible move by the Jets because he might challenge Sanchez for the starting job. Logic fail.
You might want to check your facts about which system is more "complicated" than the other: Zone vs Man Blocking Schemes
Maybe you should read the rest of the thread and see that about 4 other people have already said the same thing as you.
I hope "if nothing else" we find out if Sanchez is our QB of the future or if we need to move on. IMO, he doesn't need P. Manning numbers, but he can't have another year like last year... He can't suck again. We've removed most all the excuses except Hunter, Mark has to be able to deal with the line we have.
Shonne Green had decent numbers last year. 6 TD 253 attm 1054 yards 4.2 yds per carry 30 rec 211 yrds 1265 yards from scrimmage Not too shabby.
^^^thanks for the great insight. Obviously, Greene is above average at running back position. It's year four for him too. Let's see what he can do in a new offense, geared to his game. Ground 'n pound.
that'll be a first, because up to this point, he's been a bottom tier qb. i wouldn't go betting the ranch on sanchez becoming much more than what he's been, more a game manager than qb that can carry a team!
sshhhhhh, this is a jets board where it's always the oc's fault. remember noodle was a franchise qb if it wasn't for hacket. same with sanchez and schotty. next year it'll be a pass for sporano because it's his 1st season and all, but then it'll start on him also. it's always the oc's fault. fact is, jets can never find that franchise qb, but those are facts that make sense, so it can';t be!
i think sanchez will be alot better this year. i think he turns heads. that being said i think maybe knowshown becomes a jet if the price is right
He's shown flashes, especially in the playoffs. It would be a first for him to play consistently well - of course it would be the first time he didn't have to play in Schotty's mutant offense too.
Great analysis. This might be proof if Mark Sanchez improves into a 90.0 QB rating this year. If he doesn't prove to be a better player for us, then we'll know he's a problem on this team, too. I noticed each had an under 7.0 pass yard average. That says a lot right there.
Sanchez is a game manager. He was drafted to run Schotty's system and manage games for the Jets while Rex's defense carried the team. Nothing anybody says is going to convince me differently at this point. The Jets took a big name (team MO) with a trade-up (team MO) and with very little practical experience at the position. They did this so Schotty would have a young QB to mold and run the mutant. Sanchez didn't have a lot of playing time in the USC system and he was fairly raw as a prospect entering the NFL. The advantage (if there was one) of taking a raw guy from a major college pro set offense was that Schotty could just keep molding him without having to deal with a heavily in-grained system that the guy had run for 3 or 4 years. Schotty's system does not require a major deep bomber who drives the offense. It requires a highly accurate passer who reads the defense pre-snap and then makes quick throws to the guys all the movement leaves uncovered. The system suffers from the same basic weakness that all possession passing games suffer from, which is that if you throw the ball a bunch of times for short gains and ignore the deep game you are exposing yourself to a much higher turnover rate without getting a much higher payoff in return. The reason the Jets are down on Sanchez right now, and they're definitely down on him, is that the reason he was drafted was to make Brian Schottenheimer's system succeed and he failed in that effort. It was really Schotty's failure to set the system up well enough for anybody to run it at a high level in 6 seasons. It was really Mike Tannenbaum's failure to create a player base with enough experience in the system to make it work well, instead bringing in new receivers every year like they were interchangeable parts. It was really Woody Johnson's failure to understand that what Tannenbaum and Schotty were trying to do when they drafted Sanchez was likely to take a long time to succeed. It was really Rex's fault for being a disconnected head coach who was clueless about how the offense worked, even as it failed multiple times in front of him. However Sanchez is the QB and that position becomes the lightning rod for all failures on the offense, regardless of whether those failures are the QB's, are somewhere else on the field or are mostly well up the food-chain as they were here.
U forgot one other thing in your excellant post MS non ability to make a snap decision & then go with that decision. That is what MT, RR & BS forgot to check on before drafting him with such a high draft choice
No QB has ever made Schottenheimer's system succeed so we can't be sure that it is even a realistic expectation. It sounds like you're trying to paint a picture like Sanchez could only ever exist in Schotty's system and since he failed in that he's useless. Let's see what he can do in a different system. We've seen a lot of the upside of his college scouting report play true on an NFL field in spurts. He needs to play more consistently.
