I think one reason that people are talking about it is that it's still 3 weeks until the draft and some are tired or re-hashing the same players. I never thought trading Mo for the 2nd pick was a fair trade, reasonable or made any sense. As for your other questions, TN or any team could want to trade for Wilk because he is a known quantity and is very good. He's still young and entering his prime. Williams is a great prospect, but only that. Williams has never played a down in the NFL. I know nothing about him since I have no interest in him for the Jets, only know that he's considered by some to be the best player in the draft. He could sign a big contract and then coast. He might be uncoachable. He could suffer a career-ending injury, or with all the new-found wealth, could decide he wanted to start using some recreational drugs. Money isn't the only factor to consider. Other teams might have plenty of cap space and be willing to pay Mo more. I can easily see where the notion that Wilkerson's contract is unsolvable came from. One, Idzik never got him re-signed. Two, Mac for some reason, decided to table the discussion until after the draft. At least some of us think that you take care of your own first before signing outsiders. For a number of us, re-siging Mo would have been among the top priorities once we became the GM. While there are a lot of good reasons for Mac's waiting and he has been very busy, it could very easily be that he had some initial discussion with them, saw that the two sides were a long ways apart or perhaps even unresolvable, and so is delaying the inevitable. Mac has also made some cryptic remarks about the two sides having their "perspectives" which imo sounds like they are at a bit of an impasse. Mac has impressed me with everything else that he has done since he became the Jets GM. It's hard to imagine why he wouldn't have addressed this early and not made it a priority with the way he's done everything else. I'm hoping that it was just that Mac was very busy with so many other urgent priorities that he decided to wait until he could really focus without other distractions, and that it will get resolved in short order. I don't think that things are hopeless or at least I hope not. I do have some concern.
Well I think posters on this board think he is a very dominant player which in my HO he is not. He is a decent player but for sure not Reggie White or any of the dominant DE of this era
Why do people assume he wants JJ watt money. That has never been reported once. He'd probably get a deal like Calais Campbell
I don't think you have a humble opinion even though you say it every post, because every time someone disagrees with you, you insult them. I think you have an arrogant opinion
It's a great point. Just rumors and anticipation of greed by Wilk. But he'll set the bar high which doesn't mean he isn't willing to negotiate.
It depends on what Bowles priority is. Sure, having a top 5 DE in the NFL is a great thing... but is it a priority for success with Bowles defense? If the answer is no, then you spend the money someplace where success will be guaranteed, and get some draft picks back in the process.
If resigning Wilkerson was easy and cheap the front office would have done it already. The fact that there is no long term deal in place is troubling news for anyone that would like Wilkerson to remain a Jet. Making the assumption that a reasonable contract will just happen would be foolish. With half of the year between the Superbowl and the start of the regular season football fans really do not have anything better to do than discuss Wilk's contract and the prospect of trading him.
not that i would want to trade Mo or anything ....but what if we traded Mo & the 6th pick to Tampa ? Mac & Bowles has already dropped hints they would trade up for a QB.. everybody is talking Mariota.. but what if it's for Winston? (who is scheduled to visit us soon or already have im not sure) I know it may just be due diligence bringing Winston in but you never know.. if they fall in love with him they may make the move. plus think sheldon is going to cost more than Wilk. even though by that time we won't be paying bunch of guys anymore (REVIS, Cro, mangold, brick, harris, A QB etc). We could do a lot of different things right now. I'd still rather have Mo than not have him though.
Because its complete bullshiit.Wilk isn't on Watt or Suhs level yet .Offenses set there entire gameplan around where those guys are ,Wilk isn't the same threat
I'm hoping we don't trade up and esp use Wilk as a part of a deal to trade up. But I have no problem dealing him for high picks and getting a replacement for him at rookie money plus an extra pick or two.
Did Suh even do anything last year aside from stepping on Rodgers leg like an ahole? He had 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks, it's not the 2 horse race between him and Watt like peopleare making it sound. He had 1 tackle and no sacks against the Jets, I don't even remember hearing his name
Anyone in the pro sports business that you may to be able to sign for a reasonable number is a trade consideration. It is perfectly plausible. Although I agree that Tennessee makes no sense. Once Williams is gone, though......
I don't like that idea solely because that makes Calvin Pace the number one OLB. And news flash, no one wants Coples for a first round pick.
I have a feeling he isn't gonna be the same on the Dolphins for some reason.I just can't picture the Dolphins being a good team ever.....I really don't think there gonna make the playoffs for the next hundred years or so .It just seems like everything they touch turns to shit theses days
Priority wise, the jets have Sheldon on top and will not entertain a contract with Mo that puts them in a no win situation to eventually negotiate with Sheldon. Something tells me the perspective of worth value to the team varies greatly between Mac, Todd and Mo. We must get what we can from Mo and move on. Not clear its in the cards to have $200M tied up with 2 DEs.
The coaching staff and FO is focused on the draft!!!! They will deal with extensions after the draft.
