Except Wade Philips had EXCELLED as a DC twice before he was with Houston. Sparano has NEVER been an OC. The Jets are doing on-the-job training....hope you guys are OK missing the playoffs the next 2 years.
Let's nit start burning effigies of this guy until we see him run the offense. If we can make the playoffs teice with schitty, we damn well can do it with sparano.
With all due respect, but the fact that Rex sees something in an individual ( especially for an OC position) means less than shit. Needless to say He has never hired an OC before and hiring and firing is probably the task that take the longest for a hc to master.
As someone else pointed out, Sean Payton wanted to take Sparano to New Orleans with him as his OC, but Parcells wouldn't allow it. Payton might know a thing or two about what it takes to run an offense, right?
I highly doubt this fun fact is going to make many feel any better. I'm very unsure of this move, I can't say I'm thrilled about it. A change needed to be made in some fashion regardless. I hope this works out for us. :/
I understand the questions, but Sparano performed well enough as an assistant/coordinator to earn the respect of some very knowledgeable coaches with winning track records. It's foolish to assume he can't cut it as our OC simply because he failed as a Head Coach. Running an entire team, that's a whole other ball o' wax. Keep an open mind, s'all I'm sayin'.
I for one am thrilled at the change, and can now look forward to the draft with some hope for next year.
I personally know several PSL season ticket holders that wrote letters saying they were considering giving up their tickets if Shottenheimer came back.
I bet none of those people are now writing letters about how they are definitely keeping them because Sparano was hired.
I like this hiring. I hope they hire someone else to work more with Sanchez, too, but I like what Sparano brings to the table. He's been a head coach, not a great one, but not an awful one, and his players definitely didn't quit on him, so that's a good sign. I like that he comes from the Parcells line. I think having another head coach on the staff to be mostly in charge of the offense is a good thing for Rex. He's a defensive guy, he should stick to his specialties, but hopefully, he and Sparano will be on the same page. He inherited Schottenheimer, this is Rex's choice, let's see if it works out. Like I said, I hope they aren't done with Sparano. If they bring in Haley or Jackson to help out, that would be great, too. The more coaching talent, the better, though having 2 freshly fired head coaches with intense personalities on the staff as well as Rex could be a double edged sword. I'd still welcome it. If we crash and burn, might as well do it with the best offensive coaches we can get. Can't wait to fistpump field goals!
I agree with the OP, its all well and good to say you want Schotty gone but who do you replace him with? I don't know whether Sporano will work out but he has experience and seems to have the offensive philosophy that Ryan is trying to mould for the team (ground and pound). If he can get us to start playing the hard-nosed football of 2009-2010 again and have the O-Line provide the prtection for Sanchez when required Jets should be a lock for playoffs next year.
I didn't think you could give up your tickets if you own PSLs, if you do you lose your PSLs and all the money they cost you. You sell them in which case the people buying them will also buy the tickets..hollow threat.
He's very conservative play caller with the exception of running the wildcat which drove many Miami fans crazy. Really likes to shuffle O line players and has a you can count on picking up all of Dallas rejects. Overall I think this is a good hire, he fits Rex much better than Shotty.
