Sounds like it was a committee approach: "I can't name one guy, so you're not going to be able to after the game single out the one guy," Parcells said. "But I would say for the most part, Tony [Sparano] handles the structure, but Todd [Haley] and Chris [Palmer] are very involved in the passing game ... then I stick my nose in when I want everybody to get confused."
He handled the running plays in Dallas while Haley handled the pass. That's why he was referred to as a "playcaller", not an OC.
it is silly because we havent seen how he will operate as a Jet. We dont even know as of right now he is in fact the OC.
Ground and pound doesn't win championships in the NFL. It helps you win close games in the regular season, but you'll never have a dominating offense. Of course, I'm willing to give Sparano at least 3 years to get this philosophy and his type of players in. I really hope this means we take DeCastro in the draft to replace Moore and get a free agent RT to replace Hunter. Sparano needs a good oline.
Sparano can do o-line and run game and Haley can do receivers and passing game. Sounds fine to me. I just have a sinking feeling about Sparano being the OC by himself.
I'm completely in the same boat. The good thing is, just a few days ago we were hearing that Haley/Sparano wanted to be a package deal. Clearly, the Jets have done interviews the past few days. You don't just announce Shotty is gone, then minutes later hear who the new OC will be. Maybe the package deal we were reading about will be true?
I have a feeling Haley will be coming as well. He was a leading candidate for the Jets OC, only if Schotty was released. Schotty is gone. Sparano will be hired. Haley wanted to team back up with him. I smell something brewing in the Jets front office.
cimini was just quoting mortensen: #Jets will hire former Miami coach Tony Sparano as new OC, according to @mortreport. about the same time he also reported: Schottenheimer departure not surprising. I told you 2 weeks ago he was a goner. #Jets have replacement in mind. Hue Jackson a possibility.
Sparano was never an OC and has ABSOLUTELY ZERO experience working with young QB's (except ruining Chad Henne). Wonderful......
