All I'm going to say is, I cringe whenever he steps on the field. I don't know why Jet fans are in love with this guy.

everytime he goes in on offense and is involved in the play, it is usually for a loss of yards. they need to develop him as a wide reciever because he is 6'2 and has decent speed/hands

He has completed 1 pass in three years. Sign him up as the starter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but SMith looked terrible when he had his chances in pre-season. I remember his mechanics were choppy at best.

Great college QB doesn't mean even semi-decent NFL QB, seeing him in some preseason games as QB, he is better off as a WR

Do I really need to throw his preseason experience on youtube? I already watched it today and I don't know how the hell people are saying he was bad at it. Vs the Vikings in 07', he came in right after Clemens stunk up the whole fucking stadium and came out to let Tuiasosopo do the same. His two incompletions were a drop by Stuckey (went right through Stuckey's hands) and a tipped ball that was intended for Baker (or was that another game that season?). He had no pass protection and had good pocket presence and scrambled when defenders got through to extend the play, always looking pass. The only scramble was a 3rd and 7 scramble for a first down that anyone else would have been stopped after 2-3 yards on.

You know why Smith isn't an NFL QB? I'll give you a hint, I've already said it in this thread: HE TAKES TOO FUCKING LONG WITH HIS READS. NOT HIS ARM. NOT HIS ACCURACY. FOOTWORK IS FINE. MECHANICS COULD BE WORSE. HE DOESN'T THINK "RUN-FIRST". HE JUST CAN'T READ DEFENSES. THAT'S IT.

Christ, these fucking idiots who don't even look at film and just parrot each other piss me off to no end.

Every time he DID throw a pass (all 3 times?) they were atrocious. No thanks.

Do you remember when he came in to run the offense for Chad Pennington out of nowhere? Ran an option once, first down. Ran the option again and lost yards. On second and long, he then attempted a pass before being pulled from the game. How do you expect the guy to stand a chance when he's being set up to fail? Every time he comes in the game the opposite team knows it is a run play, and the only times he gets to attempt passes are in long yardage situations (low percentage passes to begin with), and that's without warming up for throwing. What do you want from the guy? Do you want him to come in and throw a touchdown every time? Well, that would amount to three fucking touchdowns in three years, because that's the amount of times they've allowed him to throw the ball. Compare that to the amount of times he is under center and you start to get a picture of just how badly Brad Smith has been set up to fail.

Am I saying he's QB material? No. I'm not repeating myself again. Fuck it, we're doing it live.

Edit - Have they EVER ran a reverse with Brad Smith where he threw the ball? No. That's where Antwaan Randle El's amazing passer rating comes from. He is put in a position to succeed, and he does. It's that simple.

The only idea worse than playing him at QB, is playing him at WR.

I've been waiting for the day the get rid of this turd. He is nothing that special on ST's either.

I'd like to see Smith as our Wildcat QB. But he's not a typical NFL passing QB.

Because he isn't NFL starting material. He probably fucks up a good 50% of the plays involving him throwing, catching or lateraling the ball. He's very good at running though, so what he contributes to special teams and gadget plays makes him worth his draft pick.

You say he was set up to fail and yet you criticize Clemens for his fuck-ups. Not that I don't agree with you about Smith, because I do. He does have a decent arm and could be an even greater asset than he is now if we just used him correctly. The way he handled those laterals last year, however, really makes you wonder. :shit:

The only time Kellen Clemens looks good as a QB is when he is taking snaps in shotgun - And don't get me wrong, he looks really good when he is doing that. When he has to take snaps from under center, he is horrendous. To Recap: Under shotgun, he succeeds despite the lack of talent around him. Under center, he fails miserably and yes, sometimes it was thanks to the bozo brothers Clarke and Clement, however a lot of the time he just couldn't handle taking his drops and going through his progressions.

If I'm not mistaken they did give Brad Smith a look at QB, at least in practice or pre-season. Didn't they?

That right there tells me that you must not watch the games- outside of Wallace Wright, Smith is the only other standout player on ST. Take him off the ST squad and you will no doubt see a marked dropoff in production.
