Hawk would be a luxury, but our offense is too bad to pick a defensive player with our first pick

If the Jets can't draft Brick at the 4 spot because of cap reasons, how would Hawk be any cheaper? It is ok to spend the money on Hawk at 4 just because you like him? That is illogical.

Over the past several years, the Jets have dumped the great majority of their top picks into the defense. The offense needs an infusion of talent and young blood. At the very least the first rounder needs to be used on offense. IMO all of our first day picks need to go offense.

If you draft Hawk at 4, it would not be any cheaper. What you pay 1st rounders has NOTHING to do with the position they play, it is based on where they were drafted. Every year it is different, depending on the contracts from the year before and the contract of the number one pick.

all im saying is look at the history of positions and how much they command. yes a #4 is a high priced addition, but a LT is one of the highest paid positions in football right after QB. Thats why, if we pick at #4 we go AJ.

I do agree we will still need to address the O....but what other than the line needs to selected in the first 2-3 rounds....qb in 4th and rb in day 2... and we can get a quality 3 WR in FA...I just dont think we can say...well we need help on O so lets get D'Brick or Cutler and we sove our issues...NO

So after the J Abe situation do you honestly think we will give the #4 pick their $$ after 3 years?

I will say it again. The contracts of the 1st rounders is NOT based on their positions. It is based on the contracts award last year and on a decreasing scale based on the number one pick. Why do you think no team offer contracts until the the #1 pick is signed? The contract value of the #5 pick is based on the contract awarded to #4. Position plays little part in signing first rounders. So if the #4 pick is awarded a 40/4yr contract, the team at #5 might offer their pick a 35/4yr regardless of what postion (not real numbers, just an example). What Hawk or Brick will be offered will be based on what the titans sign their pick for, DE or LT does not matter.

This is what I think. I say we draft Hawk with the 4th. Make a trade that will send Mawae to NO for LeCharles Bently. Draft Max-Jean Gilles.

With that you got a great young defense, and you got two young lineman added.

Next step trade Abe to washington or another team needing a dE for their first pick in 07 draft. Doing this can set us up for the future. I want the jets to be known as a great defense because defense wins super bowls. Ravens, Bucs. Look at the Colts u got a great oline, good running back, great receivers and a future hall o fame QB and the offense choke every year. Well in a defense you don't choke its either you do you job good or bad on the defense and with a great 3-4 defense Hawk and Vilma would be nightmares for the years to come.

Look at this....I posted this a few months back...LOOKS like I have a crystal ball??? I really think it will be Hawk. Williams is close but I think we rin with

Barton and Hawk on the outside and Vilma and Hobson inside when we play 3-4. I like the pickup because this still allows us to use AJ when we go to the 4-3 (unlike Williams, we will have a hard time playing him in a 3-4 IMO)

    Thoughts??

I stopped reading after this crazy comment...D'Brick is ten thousand times better than Jones will ever be, and it's not even close. Jones is going to be an average starter for the rest of his career...D'Brick will be an all-pro.

No to mention what Hawk will cost the Jets if they pick him at #4.

The only bad thing about it is our OL. The RB spot only struggled cuz we were hurt all over the place on OL. And yes, I do believe Pennington is still good.

Correct me if i am wrong but aren't the first round salaries basically "slotted"?
You'll make more than #4 and less than #3..regardless of position?

That is true...the 4th pick is going to cost us a ton of money even if we draft a tomato can.

AJ Hawk is the wrong pick... especially at 4. Take Bobby Carpenter at 35...he WILL be there. At number 4 I really don't see much of any option...we can take D'Brick but of course where does that put Adrian Jones? We can take Super Mario but where does KVO fit in? We can take Haloti Ngata, which I wouldn't hate, but its a very large reach.

Honestly we should trade down in this draft to 8-15. There we can take Deangelo Williams, Ngata, maybe even Winston Justice or Marcus McNEill, or Chad Jackson.

in th3 3-4 AJ Hawk would be more of an ILB...

in the 4-3 AJ Hawk would be a OLB.

I think that he would be a good pick, but if we went a different direction i wouldnt be pissed. I can see Mario Williams (who i dont personally want, beacuse he doesnt really fit into a 3-4) or D'Brick who i wouldnt mind; but i dont think hes enough of an upgrade of Adrian Jones to take at #4 and fork over huge money

Victor Hobson will be a stud at ILB in the 3-4. Barton, Vilma, Hobson will be solid, if we are to add any LB's it would be a guy like Bobby Carpenter or Lawson later in the draft. I do not want AJ Hawk at #4.

No to Ngata. Yes to Bobby C. @ 35. We don't need to spend another top 10 draft choice on a DT/NT.

I like Hawk but like it has been mentioned before

WATCHING OUR OFFENSE ON THE FIELD LAST YEAR WAS THE EQUIVOLENT TO STABBING MYSELF IN THE EYE REPEATEDLY WITH A KABOB SKEWER

we need some Offensive help. But I do like hawk. I'm torn.
