I think Mangold is more valuable as a building block but Rhodes is clearly the best player on the team at the moment.
Thanks however as we go forward it really is a serious problem since 1 of the key elements of the 3-4 is to have LBers who can blitz & actually pressure/sack the QB
Chad Pennington is by far the best player on this team. If Rhodes went down for the year, this team would be fine. If Chad goes down, the season is over.
If we stay with the 3-4. We played a lot more 4-3 in the second half last year and it seemed we were much better on defense when we did.
Last season the best player on our team was probably Coles just because he was the only big play threat on both offense and defense. However, this upcoming season the best player will easily be Kerry Rhodes. He had a great season last year but its not even going to compare to this one coming up. I came to this conclusion after the playoff game last year. He was asked about the play where he almost came up with that interception that he could have taken back for 6. He said something on the lines of I had no idea i was gonna get there so fast. I broke on the ball and i was just trying to get a hand on it to break it up and i just got there quicker than i thought. To me, that means that he had the skills last year and now he understands the talent he has and next season will be the guy who can change the course of a game at any second.
what the hell? there's no way chad is the best player on the team. compare chad to other QBs. Compare Rhodes to other safeties. Rhodes is much better.
MVP Offense: Penny Best Player, Offense: Coles/Mangold (tie) MVP, Defense: Rhodes Best Player, Defense: Rhodes/Vilma (tie)
Ha in the 4-3 what is MOST necessary is a potent PR which at the present moment is totally non existence on the NYJs. Just jog your memeory back to the Pat PO game if U need a reminder of what happens when you play the 4-3& have no PR
Agreed, relative to other positions, Rhodes is the best player on the team (with Vilma or Coles second). Now because of the nature of the QB position, Chad is the most valuable and important player on the team. However, that is not the question being asked in this thread.
Thats true of most NFL teams though. Look at it like this, if another team could pick any one player from your team, do you think it would be Pennington? Personally I think it would be along the lines of Vilma, Rhodes, Mangold, then maybe Cotchery. I won't argue Pennington's value too the Jets, but I don't think that automatically makes him our best player.
i can see choosing KR....but i went with the man of gold....hopefully we add enough through the draft that this debate can go into overdrive after draft day... isnt the draft NEXT weekend?
exactly right. a lot of teams couldn't afford to lose their QB, but that doesn't make the QB the best player. Chad is definitely not our best player.
it's actually in a little less than 2 weeks. and yes champ, a lack of a pass rush can sink almost any defense.
