This guy went to the Pro Bowl four times. Now, why do you think the Falcons cut him?

Is it that they figured he was dead wood, and pruned him, or was it financial for cap purposes...?

Nobody tries to save money if there is real value; saving money has to do with pruning the dead wood or the wood about to be dead and it just doesn't know it yet.

If cap casualties were more valuable, they wouldn't be casualties -- the FO would give them some "bonus money" and redo their contract to reduce their cap pressure on the team.

Dead wood. Prune it, don't buy it.

During the 2007 season, Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler publicly complained that then-coach Bobby Petrino was trying to phase out veteran players.

Now, the team is merely tossing them to the curb.

Crumpler has been released by the Falcons. He was signed through 2010, and due to earn $3.4 million in base salary in 2008. --

Yes I would love to have Crumpler, I would like to see his medical records before hand so we would know if we were getting a tE or a medical moron he looks good he only missed 2 games this year but I think that we want (technically baker is the man) but I think having a guy like Crumpler forces shotty to use the tight end. It would be much better for the reciving corp to have not only a veteran but a proven reciver who has put up impressive numbers for a tight end

Good TE yes, but I do not think this is a need for the Jets. Utilizing the TE we have is. Baker can make plays, but someone has to throw him the ball.

If we could get this guy on the cheap I really think he could help our offense a lot. We do not have an NFL quality 3rd WR right now. Maybe Stucky or Brad Smith can become that guy, but I'm not putting any eggs into either of those baskets at this point.

With Crump, we could run a lot of 2 TE sets and either put Crump in the slot using him as our 3rd WR or keep him in as an extra run blocker. Plus, it sounds cool when you shorten his name to Crump.

Unfortunately, I think someone will pay him more than he's worth for us. He's still a very talented TE.

They didn't play all 16 games like most of these players.... If they did they might have dropped 5-8 passes.

you can't LOVE anyone in the NFL anymore - you have to be honest in assessing players-team needs-cap ramifications, etc.

I would love for the Jets to sign Crumpler - if he can be had for a reasonable amount. If he's asking for pro bowl money - no.

The guy can add a lot to the Jets - but there are virtually a handfull of players worth big money these days - especially TE's. I'd try and sign him for sure.
