Clemens definitely. I love what Chad's given us thru the years. Yet we need to move on for the sake of the franchise. We need to see if Clemens is the guy. We know what Chad gives us. Not great but steady. KC has to be given a real chance. We have to see if he's capable of winning games and playoffs. If not him then it's back to the QB drawing board for '09.
I'm really slowing down aren't I? I think if Clemens was smart enough to grow 3 inches he might have that "wow" factor, but small QBs are never successful.
Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Jeff Garcia, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, David Garrard, and Donavan McNabb never had success in the NFL? They are all 6'2 or under...
jeez he was being sarcastic, am i the only one who sees it? Dware and i must have the same kind of humor. Anyway, i would like to give Clemens a full years chance to prove himself. If hes not the guy then we will pick a qb high in 09. Chad should have been gone during the draft, hopefully he will be traded before the season.
Lighten up. There's a new QB thread every couple days and this one really didn't shine anymore light on the topic then the last, or the one before that, or the one before that.
Chad will win the QB competition and once again prove he is the leader and heart and soul of this team.
Ok, so as long as this thread is still around, I might as well give an honest response. I hate the idea of a QB competition. I wanted Chad traded this offseason. I think having him around, with the threat of a competition, is damaging to Kellen's development. I don't think we can evaluate Kellen without a full TC under his belt, a gameplan tailored to his skills from the overall playbook, and at least enough games for our new offensive line to gel and give him a chance to succeed. I look at Chad like I look at my sister-in-law's husband (a second rate investment portfolio manager). I like the guy, I'm appreciative of everything he's done and his will to continue to help, but I can't afford to have blinders on when I deal with him on a business level. He can't get the job done, and I need to look elsewhere. For those of you who want a QB next year, the only way that happens is if Kellen starts this season. If Chad starts, there's always the chance that the FO goes back to Kellen's development. If KC fails as a starter again this season, we scrap the position and address it in the draft.
Yep, start KC, let him do whatever. If he suceeds, great we have our QB, if he fails, draft/trade for another. Personally I don't see starter in him at all.
AINGE has a better shot at being a productive starter than KC does. I too would have liked to see CP traded or cut June 1st, but it won't happen. We need to start new and with him as a weak but stable crutch we will never truely move on unless he has a complete melt down or Ainge blows CP's house down. After two years in the NFL you should have a clue as to potential in a player and KC doesn't have "IT" or a "WoW, he has the "What the F*&k!" facter with his poor discisions and twice the interceptions. At least when CP finally got to start his first 8 games he had the WoW factor. He just lost the "WoW" and now barely has the "IT" left.
It's been said a million times before, but the team Pennington inherited was just a little bit different then the team Clemens inherited.
