Who would you keep between Cotchery, Edwards and Holmes?

I will be very surprised if Woody is here next year. He isn't his dominant self from last year as it is, and as time goes on, he will start to weaken as a player. Would love to keep him around for depth, but definately not for 3.24 million.

My guess is we are looking at a new RT next year, prolly in FA, unless Vlad somehow is able to make a full transition to the NFL and learn LG all of this season, and then RT in the offseason...

Jenks will almost surely retire, so between those two alone, that frees up 9+ million. Harris doesn't take a cent of this, because they have enough alotted to bring him back now, he just wants a deal with real guaranteed money.

I think it is plausible with Tanny's skills to keep all four of Edwards, Holmes, Harris, Cro, suposing they accept reasonable deals. However, if he has to break the bank for Harris/cro we will only see 1 receiver retained

Edwards is such a key in the running game he has to be kept. Notice how our running game took off only after he arrived last year. He is also our vertical threat and the big WR we need in goal line situations. I hope the FO is working out a deal for him now.

Holmes He had 1200 yards last year. He is great 3rd down WR and he can be an elite WR. He should just make Keller, Edwards, Cotchery and Sanchez better. Even without seeing him play I would love to see him resigned. But he will likely want top dollar. Maybe more than he is worth.

Cotchery He still has 2 years left on his deal after this year at reasonable salaries. He is a leader on the team and It would be great to keep him. But no reason to work out a new deal until 2012.

If I had to rank them in resiging it would be:

    1. Edwards
    2. Holmes
    3. Cotchery

But only because Cotchery is already under contract through 2012. I just question if we will be able to work out a reasonable deal with Holmes. But I would be more concerned with working out deals for Cromartie and Harris than Holmes. Although we might be able to make Harris a RFA if the CBA stays as is next year. Either way next year will be a challenging offseason for the Jets FO followed by likely a must redo of Revis' contract before the 2012 season starts or otherwise it will be likely he plays out his contract in 2013 and will hit the open market after 2013. Edit I believe Holmes can also be restricted under the CBA next year. Under the old CBA players with 4 years experience could not be restricted but the uncapped year moved that to 6 years which i believe is in effect next year to. Meaning the Jets could tendor them both RFA with a 1st and 3rd for both Holmes and Harris next year if they so choose. I am not a 100% certain here that same terms of the CBA this year apply next year. But that is my recollection of what happans this year and next after the owners opt out.

It's more than 3.24 million, 3.24 million is the savings 4.26 is his actual cap number.

I totally understand your POV on Edwards and his blocking.

I think it's unfair to give the nod to Edwards just yet, let's see how Holmes does in the last 12 games.

Cotch & Holmes, but it depends on the $ numbers w/ Holmes and Braylon

I don't think Cotchery is in any danger of going anywhere, but stranger things have happened (see Coleman, Drew). I think Cotchery works too hard on every down and is too tough and too reliable to lose his spot on the team, and more importantly, doesn't have a big price tag or trade value.

fair point, this is important, but my point is just enhanced, we don't need him to be a depth guy for 4.26 million.

Also great point about edwards blocking, he has been a stellar blocking WR since arriving in NY. But from what I hear about Holmes run blocking he isnt too shabby either.

I would love to see both guys brought back somehow. Hopefully the combination of low final stat lines and off the field issues brings their price tags down enough to keep them all around for Sanchez in the future

So long Cotchery if it allowed us to keep Edwards and Holmes.

Now that he's finally playing to his potential, I don't want to see us lose Edwards. Hopefully, since he likes it here so much and with his DUI trouble he gives us a discount. I doubt it will happen, but one can hope.

Lose Edwards this offseason, no question. I don't trust him for a second once he gets his money, let him go somewhere else and waste their money.

Plus, he might actually be a RFA this offseason if I'm not mistaken, so we can get something decent back for him if he keeps up the good play.

Give me Cotch, Holmes and Keller, then draft a another wideout in the middle rounds to develop.

Regardless of whatever happens with other receivers, Cotchery must stay.

The first is a fair point. Plus he's a lot more reliable than Braylon. Jerricho is making a nice salary for the next 2 and a half years, I don't think he'll be moving any time soon.

what scares me is if we let Braylon Edwards go...He just may sign with the Patriots and play with Tom Brady...Because Randy Moss is already proclaiming that he is leaving the pats after this year

I like Cotchery a lot but Edwards has been much more productive. Not only in catching & running after the catch but he's also been able to draw quite a few Pass Interference penalties. Cotchery's role to me seems to get smaller as Keller's starts dominating Sanchez's vision.

As for Holmes, let's wait and see how it works out. If he plays to his potential, Cotchery is the odd-man out. However, let's see how much Edwards wants when the season ends. Wouldn't surprise me if Edwards prices himself off the Jets & then makes the decision easy for the organization which WR to drop.

I was pretty sure Edwards was going to have a great year this year. Remember he came near mid season last year, so he didn't have much work with the team. This year he seems really in tune with Sanchez, plays great at the subtle stuff like downfield blocking. Making sure that underthrown ball was not intercepted was actually a big time play. Plus we all see how he has elevated the running game.

But Cotch is under contract, a very good possession receiver, and will not cost as much to keep.

THis question is premature, though, as far as Holmes is concerned.

I like Edwards and Cotch when you consider Keller in the equation.

Sanchez is at a point in his QB career were he still needs help and when it comes to 50/50 situations he likes throwing to Keller or Edwards because he has alot bigger window of error with their size.

The past two games I have seen him miss a couple of easy Touchdowns because he can only checked 2 routes tops (Hartsock after the fumble this week was wide open because Keller was doubled)

Three possession recovers with where Mark is right now would likely be a waste.

I'd rather have Edwards as the big play, big wide out that takes a lot of attention off of Keller and Cotch moving the chains. And I don't go thru the games, but Cotch is killing the Corners that he lines up against Sanchez just needs to trust what he sees and make the throws to the open Wideouts.

IMHO Cotch would be the odd man out since we already have a better possession receiver in #81 & Edwards & SH are much more feared as D/field receivers then Cotch by the other side

This is not accurate though. In Miami Vontae Davis was on Cotchery the whole game. Edwards always had their #2 corner. New England put McCourty on Cotchery and had Butler and company on Edwards.

For all the big play potential and yes, Edwards has that, he's consistently drawing the #2 corner on the other team while Cotchery draws the good one.

I thought it was relatively common practice for teams to put their best CB in man coverage on the #2 WR, while doubling the #1 with the #2 CB and a safety?

Cotchery & Holmes...Edwards is only playing good right now. He is too inconsistent. Imagine we keep him & get rid of any of the other 2 and he starts to drop balls again...man I'll be pissed!
