Hey man, I hear what you're saying. I very much like Braylon, but until yesterday he had this tendency to disappear when we needed clutch receptions. You cannot knock the guys toughness or talent as a wideout. All I'm saying is Holmes is a harder guy to replace, he's a decent run blocker, a threat all over the field, has value in special teams, and is very clutch. If we let Holmes walk and keep Braylon, I won't complain, but between the two I feel like Holmes is the better to keep. Hell, if we can keep both somehow, that'd be awesome.
I LOVE Cotchery, but the guy HAS been a drop machine this year. He's really had a bad season, no way around it.
Cotchery has 7 drops,TO and Reggie Wayne are tied for the league lead in drops at 11. Welker has 10, Marshall has 9, Miles Austin, Celek, Stevie Johnson, and Ocho have 8. Numerous receivers have 7, in Cotchery's case these drops are magnified because as Jet fans we are used to seeing him catching everything thrown his way. Some of the names on that 7 drops list are Garcon, Andre Johnson, Mike Williams, Aaron Hernandez, Donald Driver, Steve Smith and many more.
cotchery just isn't an impact player -- really thought he would be that amazing third down guy but he seems to be a bit forgotten lately. I could see him getting let go and ending up in NE or Indy
He is not having his best year, but to say cut him is extreme. The Jets receivers as a whole have taken turns dropping passes.
I would be interested to see the number of three WR sets the Jets are running this year. Cotch is going from being the #2 and getting alot of playing time to #3 and getting the least amount of targets of the three WRs. When it is a two WR set, he does not see the field.
Seeing all those names there kinda proves my point. All those players that have more drops are better than Cotchery, except for maybe Celek. With Cotchery, not dropping balls is basically all of his value. He doesn't have the talent, speed or size of a lot of guys, but he's employed because he never dropped balls and was a reliable over-the-middle, 3rd down target. He hasn't been that this year. Also, can't go by statistical drops in my opinion, very subjective stat. I'm just going by the eye-test.
I was just showing the names that are leading the league are top targeted receivers, which Cotchery is not. Just putting the stats out- Stats wise Braylon is having a very good year, 10th in passes greater than 25, has the 6th longest reception in the league, and is catching a very high percentage of passes thrown.
Yeah, I was going to bring that up too - that he has that many drops with so few targets is alarming. And yeah, I really think Braylon is having an excellent season.
Yeah Cotchery has 7 drops but he probably has significantly less targets than those guys on the list. Cotchery has become less of a focal point in this offense than in years past so if he gets a target he has to catch the ball. In terms of the drops tho he's really only had 2 really bad games with the drops (Packers game and Dolphins game). IIRC he has 6 drops in those 2 games and 7 overall.
Don't you guys realize that all those drops are Schotty's fault. He never creates space for our WR's. Didn't you read the thread??? :breakdance:
Upon further review and seeing the last couple of games I think Edwards has become the #2 priority (behind Harris) this off-season... this guy is VITAL to our passing AND running game... Holmes is a game changer but he isn't as important as Edwards...
