i said romo has upside, and i said he could be good. but in the context of a straight up trade, at this point, is not anywhere near a sound football decision. how does me saying that a QB hasnt failed under shanahan do anything but allude to the fact that shanahan is a QB guru. plummer was better in den than ariz. cutler proved he had a cannon in college. he made those bombs at vandy. any who was surprised that this kid had an arm never paid any attention to college football, and knew nothing about him even after the broncos drafted him. again, he has a big upside ( he was a 1st rounder with a lot of buzz) but saying you would trade chad out for him, to me, is silly at this point. let the kid play more than 2 games before we anoint him. as far as vince young goes....i wouldnt trade chad for him at this point either. i pointed out that out of the 1st year QBs, he wasnt on that list you concocted. watching young play ive seen a few things that resonate though. yes, he can make plays with his feet like vick. his completion % is a hair over 50%, but as far as him and his mistakes, he usually doesnt make the same one twice. he learns on every play. he has the biggest upside from the rookie QB class imo. and thats why i brought him up in my post about that list. he has been the key to the titans playoff run. hes been their leader, hes made the plays when they needed to be made. he has those intangibles that you see by the way he plays the game. i think he will end up being a great pro. and vick....that was more his shitty statistics than opinion. i do think hes overrated, and way overhyped. those are opinions. a shitty completion %, passer rating....those are black and white. atlanta won a playoff game in GB, and since then, people have been kissing his ass.
I don't think the issue is that Chad throws the ball deep poorly. But for Chad, a deep pass is a medium-long pass for a strong armed QB. He throws his version of a deep pass quite well, but thats 35-40 yards in the air, not 55-60.
you think they "designed this offense for him"? in the preseason every job was up for grabs. they implemented their system, and let the QBs make it work. i see you jumped on that 3rd and short deal...well, having a subpar running game leads to a lot of those third downs. it isnt just pennington. its convenient to blame him since it supports the apparent "we need a QB with a stronger arm" theory thats spreading around here. and we converted those 3rd downs with chad at the helm....
i remember chad getting 2 playoff wins...and if you are even trying to imply that grossman has ANYTHING to do with that 13-2 record, i laugh at you. you put chad on that bears team, with that defense, and you bet your ass they have AT LEAST that record.
I misunderstood your original point on Shanahan...my mistake. Cutler has played four games and improved in each one. He has won two critical games in a playoff race. Trading Chad for him right now, to me, would be a no-brainer. I'll watch more Young. I give a lot of credit to Leinart for being a winner and making plays so, I probably should do the same for Young.
dude, seriously, who the fuck was going to beat the ravens? that defense was a top 3 ALL TIME GREAT DEFENSE. you cant blame kerry collins for the giants loss. you blame the opponent. the ravens were clearly they best team in the league. it was one of those years where a team was flatout dominating.
It is naive to think that the playbook and offensive playcalling has not been tailored to Chad. Yes, there was an open competition in TC in the basic offensive scheme, but the coaching staff implements a new game plan and new plays each week...all of which are tailored to the abilities and limitations of Chad and the team.
Grossman has had his bad games and his good ones this year, just like Chad. He's also got 7 more TD passes and 1 more INT in roughly the same number of pass attempts. Point is, if you're going to use the "he wins games" argument you have to account for Grossman.
i swear imnot picking on you BT1... how about that throw he made in SD to moss in the playoffs? that throw was made with a partially torn rotator cuff. now thats two throws....lol he cant throw the ball downfield like manning or palmer. he had his rotator cuff reconstructed. twice. it looks like (to me) that we dont need to throw bombs downfield to be successful.
Why can't people understand it is not about throwing deep? It is about Chad's inability to get the ball anywhere in a hurry beyond 10 yards.
did you really just say that coles is only close to impact? LMAO! even little leon has the ability to be impact. 64 yrd scamper on a screen...making wht...5-7 guys miss.... you know that impact player is a term for playmaker, right? it isnt a term to describe 1 play touchdowns. coles certainly falls into that category....as does cotch, and leon. they make plays.
Cameroon is better than Chad. Located a bit further south its climate is more temperate with more rainfall.
In the AFC Championship round in Oakland, Gannon, who went to the pro bowl that year, was 11 for 21 80 yards and 2 INT's against that Raven team. You are absolutely right but I also think that Ravens team knocked Collins and Fassel for a loop that they never have recovered from.
im sure that they added or subtracted certain plays to play to the stregnths of the team. but the offense they are running isnt tailored to accomodate chad specifically. ive seen an offense thats run to the stregnths of the skill position guys (around chad). it would be silly for me to think that at some point the CS wouldnt whittle the playbook some to be able to play to the teams strong points. but out of the gate, the offense wasnt made for chads stregnths. it was anybodys job, they needed to run what they were given.
they def kicked the giants in the teeth repeatedly. fassil didnt try to adjust the gameplan at all...but i think he was resigned to the fact that they werent good enough to overcome a defense that was that good.
That Ravens D was amazing that year. May have been the best ever, but there a were a few extremely good ones in other years, too. Ravens had such a punishing D. You were affraid to run because you would get pancaked by multiple players nearly every time. You were affraid to pass over the middle because you would get nearly cut in half. Ravens didn't need a good Offense because if they could score 10 to 14 points they had a very, very good chance of winning. Many times the D would score for them.
im sorry, but grossman is not responsible for the bears success. if he was, he wouldnt be in the hot seat for the past month. the bears stregnth is defense first. grossman won them 1 game....the TB game. the other 12 were the D making plays....like those 23 picks.
If anything, Vinny and the Jets had the most success of anyone against the 2000 Ravens in the regular season finale. We were up 14-0 in the first half, if only Vinny didn't throw that pick for a TD at the end of the half--a 10 or 14 point turnaround. That was the only time I was truly pissed off at Vinny, like the old bad Tampa Vinny came back for a half.
