so when did garcon become a hall of fame candidate? sure manning got the ball to him, but pierre ran the route to get seperation then open against lowery. defending the ball is one thing, defending the route runner is another. lowery is a long way from becoming a 2 or a 3 depending on who he has to guard. manning had a good game because the db's we have besides revis cant keep from allowing thier man to get open. manning wasnt having to thread needles, he was hitting receivers who were open and mostly unguarded. trade rhodes and jones for whatever kind of picks that we can get, 3rd round or higher please!
This is really an easy answer for the current squad. BPA thats not a QB or ILB. We can use Depth if not a starter jsut about everywhere else.
I see a lot of people mentioning secondary and to an extent I agree. But I think we need someone that can blitz from the OLB position someone we hoped Gholston was gonna be 11+ sacks a year. If we can get to the QB more our secondary will improve as a result of pressure.
I disagree with all this secondary talk. This kind of mentality is clearly based off of the ONE game against the Colts in the AFCCG. Yes, it was a poor day for our secondary, but have we all forgotten that we had the #1 pass defense in the league? Our secondary to me is the least of our concerns going into the offseason. Sure, they can upgrade the secondary, I agree. I just don't feel this is even close to be the most important "need" or "upgrade" to be focusing on.
True, but I hope we get rid of Lito and Coleman and pull in solid mid-round guys like a Myron Lewis at CB/S...Amari Spievy at CB...Walter McFadden...Chris Cook... We can do whatever we want at 29...I hope Damian Williams or Golden Tate is still around, but we can get lucky in a number of areas. We can go with whoever we think BPA is.
How does Carlos Dunlap translate to the 3-4? At 6'6, 290, he has prototypical 3-4 DE size, and he's productive to boot.
Plays like a girl and the idea of him being able to two gap is laughable. Also, he's got character problems and if you think Vernon Gholston is lazy...well Dunlap's like 9 or 10 levels after lazy.
I couldn't disagree more with what DWare just said about Dunlap... On playing like a girl and not being able to play as a two gap end: The guy was very, very successful as an end on a 3-man defensive line. Dunlap was an excellent anchor against the run. The Gators were dominant when he was on the field. He was at his best as a two gap defensive end, so I don't see where that's coming from. If the you watched the SEC championship game, you could see the difference in the Gators' defense without Carlos Dunlap. It was obvious how important Dunlap was to that defense. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Crimson Tide or Mark Ingram, but in my opinion, if Dunlap wasn't suspended, Toby Gerhart would have a Heisman on his mantle. Lazy?: The guy's work ethic is there: he spends more time in the film room than any other Gator defender. He created study sessions before games with the rest of the defensive linemen. He's always the first to the gym and the last out of the gym. Dunlap's DUI was an incredibly stupid mistake and that's the only thing you can really knock him for. The production's there. The supporting cast wasn't the same without him. The guy has all the tools in the world to be a big time defensive end.
I'm with Mr. E on this one. He's a beast. He probably won't get past the Pats though, because Meyer's BFF is Belichek and Billy will know Dulap's favorite flavor of Gatorade by draft day.
plus the Gators had Brandon James who was a pretty good returner. Dunlap would be a good fit for the JETS, as I'm hoping they select the BAP between DE,CB,OT/OG at 29. A balance of value and need. A stud DE to take on some double teams/add pressure to the pash rush would greatly help this team. I love Sean Ellis, but he isn't getting any younger.
The Pats won't waste their time with Dunlap. I would garauntee that, but that seems presumptious. He's not their type... Dunlap would have to sell his soul to BB to do that...I've heard some crappy things about his work ethic and for the time being I see him as a spoiled, overhyped dude living off of his size and being from a top college team. The fact that he missed the NC game is not a plus to him... I think the other end...Cunningham...ends up a better player. Dunlap is very Gholston-esque, except I trust the source I got about Dunlap being immature. I think Dunlap is closer to Gaines Adams than he is to Mario Williams/Julius Peppers...
well, going out and getting a DUI before on of the biggest games of his career has to question his maturity a bit. That was a DUMB move (although I did plenty of dumb shit in college, I never faced the potential consequences of someone with a pro career / national title on the line) Hopefully it was a wake up call.
Forgive me if you have heard this question/statement before. Doesnt a great pass defense allow for more pass pressure. If nobody is open because of great coverage the QB must hold the ball more and that allows the pass rush that much more time to attack the QB. Im all for secondary in the first. But OLB to be addressed at some point. And DE. "Golden Tate" No way we draft anyone from the offensive side of the ball. Remember last years draft? Maybe depth on the o-line but no WR, RB, TE. We have that.
better pass rushers = DBs life made easier better DBs = more time for the rushers to get to the QB It works both ways... I think we need another WR. After that we are good but another WR (or a strong TE) is a big need.
The problem is, that with elite QB's specifically Manning and a healthy Brady, they will find the open guy if you blitz more than 4-5 guys. Even worse they will find your weak cover guy and beat him like a drum by going 4 wide. They don't take coverage sacks. When the game is close or if they are ahead. Only if they are down by 2+scores(Which is how Balt. got to Brady but couldn't touch Manning) The other problem is that these teams also run these quick slants(Welker,Collie) that if Reggie White were on the field, he couldn't hit the QB.
