Drew will be a gamebreaker, I say get him then keep Martin and Blaylock for 1 year then go RB next season, Drew will always be an explosive threat change of pace back
We are not drafting to replace houston, he does not have a starter role right now and actually may be third on the depth chart. If we draft one it will be because the FO does not think that there is a capable satrter on the roster and we need to look elswhere in order to fill that role.
I'd have to go with Drew, seeing how he'll be sharing carries instead of carrying the load. He's explosive, very compactly built, and has awesome hands. Hes a cross between Warrick Dunn and Brian Westbrook.
I think that Laurence Maroney is just as good as Williams are maybe a tiny pit of a drop off. If we needed to a rb because Houston doesn't know how to drive then I would like this guy.
I like Maroney, but if we can get Drew with a 3rd Rounder, I think that'll be better value for us since Maroney would have to be taken in the 1st round. I'm not sure about White. Addai is an intriguing option but injuries concern me a little.
DeAngelo Williams is the best runningback in the draft outside of Bush and that's why he won't last to us. Somebody is going to grab a runningback (if not Minnesota at #17 than Carolina at #27.) I would look to draft Addai in the second round. That way we can land one of Carpenter, Winston, McNeill or Mangold with the #29.
We can def make do with martin and houston for this year so i say hold off on RB till late 3rd early 4th and take Jerious Norwood( a guy who i think might better than some of the other early RBs drafted)
Houston is on verge of missing sometime in training camp. i also wouldnt mind a rb who is not gonna have stamina problems the rest of his career.
ya i dont think houston was hurt bad, but maroney or i like even white someone who can pound like lamont used too
If you want an inside runner you probably won't like Maroney. Maroney does worry me a little bit. He seems faster than he is (a product of playing on the Metrodome turf) and played in a system that pads runningback's stats. He's a real boom/bust type of player.
I actually think there's a decent chance DeAngelo falls to 29...the only teams that might take him are Minnesota, but they need an OLB so they likely go Greenway or Sims after signing Taylor, the Pats, but they will probably take Lawson or Wimbley, or Holmes if he falls...they have bigger needs, the 49ers but they will probably take defense and they like Gore, the Giants could but not likely, the Panthers but they'd proably rather go White to compliment Foster, and the Jags, but they need an OLB much more. Scott Wright has Williams falling to 28, and he's one of the most reliable out there. With a lot of good LBs likely available near the end of the first (Ryans, Carpenter, Howard) I think they go for one of those guys after losing Ayodle, leaving DeAngelo to us. It's probably wishful thinking, but there is a chance.
all i have to say about that see him in the michigan game 2 years ago in the big house.. the guy isnt slow dont make 40 times fool you. chad johnson ran a 4.5 does he look like he is a 4.5 guy on the field?. minnesota passing game feared no one. maroney keyed in on every game and produced. Yeah he should be there at that pick i still say we wait for next year to get arb in the first. Its pretty likely that we are in the top 5 next year, hopefully San Francisco gets a rb at that 22nd pick maybe williams so they dont look for Peterson next year.
Don't get me wrong Hydro, I'm not accusing Maroney of being slow or a bad runningback. I'm just saying that playing in Minnesota makes runningbacks seem better than they are--just look at Marion Barber III. Like you said, he's a consistent producer; he does it because he works within a system. That's certainly not a bad thing, you just have to take that into consideration when drafting somebody. There are two possible outcomes with Maroney: His speed turns out to be totally natural, he polishes his moves and continues to be a big play threat and a highly successful NFL runningback. Either that or he doesn't have the size or strength to keep up in the NFL or the speed and field vision to compensate for it. It's really one or the other.
If we're talking a top guy other than Bush, it's got to be DeAngelo. But I kinda like Andre Hall later.
