the draft is pretty much the only part of the season I enjoy and the higher the pick the more options you have to consider and get excited about - the rest of the season mostly sucks.

every fan in the UK (pretty much) has NFL gamepass but if you aren't watching the game live the chances of you watching it later are slim to nil

I don't think I'd ever just like drop the Jets and not watch them. The Knicks were trash for a long time, and I never truly gave up on them or anything.

I am, however, slowly losing the diehard nature of my fandom. I used to do everything I could to make sure I didn't miss a game. If I have plans or anything on Sunday I don't lose sleep anymore if I miss a game. If I'm home I'll watch them, but its getting tougher to care.

The biggest problem, is I have zero confidence in the team to do anything right. Until I see some actual results, I'm always going to expect whatever move they make to fail. I was so apathetic towards the Glenn hire for no reason. I just expect it to fail.

I get your point -- but then I look at how other fanbase treated guys who got their teams close a bunch of times but didn't win it all: Marty Schottenhiemer, Marvin Lewis, Carson Palmer, Marv Levy, Matt Ryan, McNabb. Steve Young and Tony Dungy until they got it done. Mike Tomlin and even John Harbaugh today, and it's just been a little while since they got it done. Only a handful get to be Bud Grant or Dan Marino and get love despite not having a ring. I don't see Jets fans having one ounce more patience for sustained 10-win seasons that don't get a ring than they do for sustained 3-win seasons -- honestly, I think most Jets fans would be MORE miserable. At least as we are we can feel sorry for ourselves.

I could have written this and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Perfection.

Ironically, I've lost some interest in fantasy football as well, though I don't know if it's related.

Fans would need to stop ponying up. And since he essentially has a figurative gun pointed at them with the PSLs, most are stuck.

It would take a gargantuan effort by millions to publicly humiliate him and force him to sell, but that might not even work. But I know that we wouldn't get enough people to effectuate it, so we're screwed.

56 years...LO. Boy what a masochist hun! I have witnessed the ultra-ugly to 1/2 away form being in th SB with Mr. P. Frankly, I do not know if AG is a capable HC so far the results have been bad but not sure anyone could make this ship of fools (players) play any better....so there is that. Lettingit play out but I DO NOT watch them anylonger... not wasting $$$ on this chit show.

The NFL product in general is just bad. The constantly changing uniforms which mostly suck, the ridiculous rules changes, like the kickoff stupidity, the painfully horrid broadcast announcers, the probability that legal betting is affecting the outcomes, etc.

Factor in the general Jets clown show and I just can’t get that invested anymore.

Frankly, if it weren’t for this website, I doubt I’d pay attention to the Jets much at all. This forum is much more entertaining than watching the team play and has been for years.

Which direction would I go.? Excellent question.
First of all, I am one of those old TGG fans that has suffered thru the Jets history for the better part of my life. I have seen it all. So, at this juncture of my life, first and foremost, I prioritize with far more though what is truly important and takes priority in my life. Family, health, friends, peace of mind, and the Jets have moved down the food chain year after year after year. I will always be rooting for them and hope for the best, of course, but in no way, shape or form shall they be allowed to place any undue stress, anger or negative energy to this old body. They are absolutely not worth it.
As I read many of the comments by this faithful fan base here at TGG, I can't help by chuckle. The cry now is the same as ever. Let's hope for a top draft pick for a new QB savior. Why? what the hell for? I have seen this movie before year after year.
Can't we see what the real problem is? This team, with the existing play of the two QBs, and I'm not saying they are the long-term answer by any means. Should be 3-1.
We have lost because we self-destruct, with substandard execution to the talent we have and critical turn overs game after game after game. Fumbles at the most critical junctions destroying all momentum and costing us upwards of 21 points. Idiotic penalties and brain-dead plays. A defense completely out of sink and a secondary out of position and unable to execute. Turn overs recover is foreign to this D.
We are facing a CS that has fielded, so far, an undisciplined team that only knows how to beat themselves and can't get out of their own ways. They are not top tier by a long shot but playing far below their capabilities against mediocre teams.
Until this CS and players can demonstrate to me that at least they can play to their potential, and professional enough to not beat themselves, wishing for draft picks and new players will yield nothing. Accountability and execution to avoid mistakes starts with each of the players and CS on the roster now. And at least demonstrate the ability not to beat ourselves on any given Sunday.

    Sorry for venting.

I'm another UK resident who has followed The Jets since the early-1980s when the NFL started to be regularly televised over here.

I used to really anticipate the season and look forward immensely to watching it unfold. As others have said, highlights at first but now it's every game live. I've also come over many times to watch The Jets in The Meadowlands. I've shown commitment and support over decades.

My enthusiasm dipped considerably this time last year when I paid over $500 for two seats for Jets V Minnesota in London and saw an incredibly lame performance in a loss (to Darnold) which became Salah's last game. The season had started ok-ish but a fucking stupid loss against Denver the week before left us 2-2 from a certain 3-1. The Jets didn't win another game until the season was effectively over. I swore then, that it wasn't worth it anymore.

Another rinse and repeat season is underway now. I could go to the Denver game in London in 2 weeks. It's 40 miles away from my house. Tickets can be brought on line at reasonable prices. I'm not going. Can't be arsed. My enthusiasm has been replaced by apathy. I will not give up on the team completely (and therefore the sport) but I'm no longer buying it.

The fish rots from the head down. There is no prospect of it changing unless the Johnsons sell up, which they won't.

Gentlemen, I apologize up front because this is going to be a long post explaining why, but the answer is Casual fandom. I watch when I can, but if I can't, who cares? As my father once said to me after watching me lose my mind watching a game, "If you're not enjoying it, why do you watch the games?"

I will be 63 later this month. I have been actively following the Jets since they moved to Giants Stadium. Before that, I'd catch them when they were on TV, but for some odd reason, when and where I was growing up, the Giants (who, back then, were Horrid!) were the only local game on every Sunday. Maybe because they were at the Yale Bowl and the Jets were at Shea, but I wouldn't rule out some of that old NFL-AFL rivalry sh_t still going on. I got season tickets when they made the move (I had an insider at the Stadium who hooked me up), and I became obsessive. I always felt that we were just around the corner and with a little luck on the injury side, we, again, would be World Champions!
As the years went by, we never did. I went from enjoying the game to only enjoying the tailgate with some old friends who also had tickets (same source). During that time frame, there were some ups (like with Parcells) but there were a lot more downs. I gave up my season tickets (and there was nothing as beautiful as an uncut sheet of season tickets!) when I received the bill for the PSLs (not including the ticket price or parking) of $20,000 for my two tickets for the "Right" to purchase them. They said it was a "Good Investment" that could be resold. At the time, I was having difficulty either getting to games or getting people to take the tickets. I couldn't even give them away unless the weather was perfect, and it was either a playoff team or the Giants. I haven't been to a live game since. While I miss the tailgate and the camaraderie of my friends, sadly, the prep work had become a chore.
Fast forward a few years. I had been going to a Portuguese bar/restaurant to watch all the games on Sundays, which was within walking distance. I was well fed, well treated, and rather intoxicated when I finally started to walk home at about midnight. It was not only fun (some of the old crew used to come by), but it actually was a LOT cheaper. I got married, had kids, and eventually, moved out of that area. Which brings us to the present time. Cable TV became too expensive for how little anybody in the family watches TV, so I just kept the internet access and dumped the rest. That was about the time when the NFL decided to go to multiple streaming services to be able to watch the games. I can't afford all the streaming services so I've sponged off my step daughters passwords. Sadly, they can't afford all those services either, and their husbands are not big sports fans, so I had to make due. Sometimes the games are on one of the services I borrow. Many times, they are not.
So, I follow the game here in the game threads or on the radio while surfing the internet or doing odd jobs around the house. I must say, in all honesty, for the most part, I don't miss it. I'll never give up on the Jets, and when I finally die, My old, beat up and faded Jets hat will be buried with me, but it's no longer life or death. When the team lost, I was in a funk for a couple of days after. Now, I laugh and shrug. Oh Well. It's sad that it has come to this. None of my kids are football fans AND, none of their friends are either so there is no point in springing for the NFL network to make sure I get to see all the games. Maybe if the team actually put out a decent product, I might cough up the money, but with how they have played the last decade, It Ain't Happening! I spent enough on this pathetic franchise over the decades and until they actually put a real professional team on the field, I ain't giving the NFL SH_T.
Now, as for watching other teams, games, etc. The officiating killed that. There is an obvious bias towards certain teams. Sometimes, an up-and-comer is allowed to get "all the calls" for a short period in time, but for the most part, it's the same BS over and over. I used to watch basketball until I began to question why the rules that I learned in grammar and High school are not enforced. Palming, traveling, etc. Simple things that give the ballhandler an unfair advantage over his opponent. It became a sport of individuals, not teams, and sadly, with fantasy football, I see the same thing happening to the NFL. Individual stats count for more with the casual fans and frontrunners. As for us old timers, nobody cares. I guess that the money is worth losing some of us.
I Still bleed Green. Just not as Green as it used to be. As for being entertained, for that is the reason sports exist; unless you view this team as a comedy (and I know quite a few that do), it's just not worth the time or effort. Call me when you finally field a team of professionals out there. Right now, all I see are amateurs. I'm far too old to be wasting my time and money on amateurs.

Been reading a lot of these and it’s a fun read…figured I’d add in my story

I grew up in NY…first Brooklyn then Staten Island, so I’ve been a Jets fan since 1979 (obviously from my user name)…I missed the Namath days but I love NFL Films and I had all the DVDs so I’ve seen a bunch of those games, but as for watching live, I started around the time of Richard Todd and Matt Robinson at QB…loved watching guys like Wesley Walker, Freeman McNeil, the Sack Exchange, etc etc. I moved out of NY in the 80s though so since then I’ve been watching from afar.

As we all know, there have been WAY more downs than ups for us…the closest I can really feel was the Gastineau RTP year and then the Parcells year, followed by those two Rex years. That’s about it. Sad to say that almost 50 years of watching this team that’s what I got.

I watch every game, used to do it on Sunday Ticket once that became available, and I only cancelled my Sunday Ticket when YouTube took it over and the price shot up to like $400…fuck that noise. So I got the NFL App for $14/month (cheaper if you buy a whole year at once) and honestly that’s been the best move. I no longer have to worry about recording the games…they are there…full game, condensed game, all 22, it’s all there and I can watch when I want.

So I used to get really pissed when we lost (often) and I’d stay pissed for a few days…now I still watch, I still go to a few games per year, either on the road or at MetLife, usually just buy the tickets online before the game…never had an issue. (I can’t imagine paying $20K for a PSL…would never do that). And while I am still often pissed after a loss, I love to come here and analyze or just vent. The losses don’t stay with me like they used to.

I hate Woody like crazy, and I just don’t think he’ll ever deliver a winner. I am getting into my late 50s and I am trying to come to terms with the fact that my favorite team will just never be any good in my lifetime…these constant rebuilds, and tear downs, and start from scratch bullshit…it’s getting harder and harder to stomach.

I won’t give up the team but I also don’t live and die by it anymore…it still bugs the hell out of me when we lose, but I just always expect to lose these days…sucks to be a Jets fan

I truly think we are one of the stupidest, most poorly run teams in all of sports. We belong in the shit cellar with the dregs like the Panthers and Lions…and I think Woody deserves all the fucking shit that comes his way on this…but it is what it is.

So yeah, I still watch all of the games and the losing still sucks but I won’t stop watching…
