you don't have to have the worst defense in the league to be a bad team. plenty of bad teams have only had bad defenses, without actually being the worst. I fail to see any point you are attempting to make outside. heck, even being one game isn't an excuse because one game can easily reflect how the team will play for the season.

    cman....

you are spot on.....xcept IMO edwards and co had more talent to work with on both sides of the ball........and the team was OK despite his silly coaching.

Now - its almost the opposite trend.......

less talent + better coaching = same result.

    LOL, I know.

Brady has made Defenses like the steelers and Panthers look bad with the likes of Brown and Givens at wide out with Fauria at TE and a Faulk/Smith back feild ................. give one of the top 2 QB's in the game some respect, specifically when you consider who he has now.

The defending champion Colts had one of the worst defenses last yr, they turned it around, and look at them now.

Unfortunately it's just the way it happens around here. It could be a pre- preseason scrimmage against the Texans and there would be mass cliff-jumping. Things should calm down around Wednesday.

I don't think Brady had any grass on his uniform. I don't know how many times I heard Simms say he has all the time in the world to throw the ball. The Defense sucks. I like how the Pats ran up the score to send a message. To let the Jets know how bad they suck. That we are no way in the same class as the Pats. I got an idea? Lets trade our draft picks away again next year so we can draft... 4 players... That will fix our holes... YEAH RIGHT..

Giants have a top 5 pass rush, sure their secondary blows but they're solid elsewhere.

The Browns stink but atleast they had one sack today! Brady had 15 seconds to sit back in the pocket every play. The Steelers punted 6 times, the Patriots punted once. I try to find positives about the D, but there was nothing today.

I have to agree with this thread. I know it's one game. But he is right. Tangini is getting a lot more head way. Even though the Jets made the playoffs, there were serious holes that were not taken care of the could have been. Tangini let there egos get in the way with pete.

Putting the actual performance of the team aside, the reason there isn't going to be as much uproar about Mangini now compared to Edawrds is that this was Mangini's 17th game as head coach. Edwards got LOADS of slack for years; it was really only in his fifth year that lots of people started attacking him.

Agreed. I would much rather the D brought the house rather than them rushing only three guys and allowing Brady time to pick the DB's apart.

Herm got crucified after winning some games.

Like somebody said well this thread, the honeymoon is over. There's a lot more scrutiny this year.

    Good perspective.

And he rallied public opinion at the start of his 3rd season with the whole "you play to win the game" thing.

Yeah, but I don't think anybody expected the Jets to win a title this year either.

Today we saw the Pats are really just a team that is a bad match up and plain better then us. I know alot of posters here didn't want to admit this after the draft with their additions, but they are just plum out of our league. They are a big physically team on D, which is bad for Chad and they aren't playing to win by two field goals any more on offense with Moss/Stallworth/Watson/Welker/Maroney/Brady. The Head coaching is great, the special teams are very good again with Hobbs and Gostkowski..... really they are a great team and the weakest part of their team is the only part we can't attack. So I say forget about them....LOL.

But outside of the Pats, Colts(with their new D) and Chargers(cant attack their secondary), the Jets are in every other teams ball park IMHO. And even though there are a couple of bad match ups for the Jets personal wise(like the Jags who play great man D and are a physical running team), our offensive efficiency, defensive coverage and ability to confuse other teams is good enough to beat them.

But those elite teams have too much talent for us. But we played above expectations last year and that is something Herm never did. I'll give Eric the benefit of the doubt right now because of that.

The d-line is horrible, but who else was a tad disgusted with the cb's as well? Justin Miller and Barett both played poorly, imho.

We also have to eventually hold them accountable for the Ferguson pick eventually. They've made some good picks but you can't whiff that bad on a high pick. I'm gonna give him some more time but time is running out.

Yep. Chad saved Herm's job and Herm never wanted to start him in the first place.

  19. Different year, same result.

Make way for another Patriots super bowl parade and another trip to mediocrity for the jets.

Honestly...today's efforts (or lack thereof) speaks more to Tannenbaum than Mangini. This team doesn't have premier pass rusher (which has been a problem since Abraham was traded) and the OL is still a problem. I'm disapppointed in DBrick. I was one of those people who said his drafting was a good move. But he hasn't gotten better.

Mangini and defensive better not even think about going home tonight. They better be burning the midnight oil, devising ways to get to the QB, or it's going to be a LONG season.
